I think trying to take a logical, consistent canon from Anne's books is a fairly hopeless task!

I liked that article you referenced, Stasha. Mostly because it fits pretty much with my views! :laughing5:

Dido for me. It was so well presented, and she has a lot of supporting evidence as to why AM's view on homosexuality and dragonriders is severally flawed. Also, the evidence as to why certain people Impress certain kinds of dragons was also very well written, and the section on why dragons Impress from the stands.

I'm comfortable with the Renewable Air Force style rules; that's what was in vogue when I joined Fandom and I've been writing in conservative clubs ever since. Triad is the first one I've been in that doesn't have the 'stand ins' from Anne's letter, but that's a minor.

To give her credit, in the early 70s she was trying to be fair and progressive, but she's still very much a woman of her times.

There's also a few psychological views as well that don't add up as well. Like how there were not nearly enough homosexuals (who also have to be empathetic and/or telepathic/ this is not including bisexuals) to Impress all those greens during the era when women only Impressed Golds. Greens make up 50% of the dragon race and homosexuals (excluding bisexual) make up only 2% of sexual preferences.

Luckily, however, The Triads have girls to make up for the large gaping difference, or else the dragon race would really be in trouble.

That's why I really liked the bit about weyrbred / Impression / and flight sex not equalling sexual preference. We're cool with that latter idea for bronze and brownriders at Triad, but not for blue and greenriders.
