I noticed last night one of those little Yahoo articles on travel about famous trips that you can still take.  There ten of them.  Things like riding the Orient Express, the Trans-Siberian Railroad, the West Highland Way, the Silk Road, a cruise down the Mississipi River, a boat trip down the Nile, the Darjeeling Railway, the road from Athens to Mt. Olympus, the first century Roman Road and the 88 temple pilgramige on Shikoku.  I thought the list was missing a couple great trips that you could take, like hiking the Pacific Crest, or the Incan Road.

And it also got me to thinking - if I were ambitious, rich, and could only take one more trip for the rest of my life, where would I go?  I don't mean a country, but an actual journey.  Would I travel down the Grand Canyon?  Walk the whole length of the Great Wall of China?  Follow the Oregon Trail?

I decided mine would be to drive through all of the lower 48 States.  I've been to at least 15, but there's a lot I have yet to step foot in.  I really would like to say I've see them all.

What would your ultimate trip be?

I would love to walk or bike from the USA's east coast to its west coast. Not much of a vacation, but it would definitely be a trip. That, or the whole Appalachian Trail.

I want to drive a big old fashioned amrican convertible along Route 66

I would LOVE to travel the Orient express.  Love love love!  I also want to go back to Japan and travel around there, as well as Europe and Australia.

I would travel across Asia. See Nepal, India, the Sunderbans, Belagdesh, China, Thialand, Laos, Vietnam, Japan... I want to see it all. And then I would do two more stops. One in New Zealand and the other in Australia.

I would want to do an re-enactment sort of trip, by flying boat from England to Australia or New Zealand.

I would go on a Grand Tour, by train and boat, from England to Egypt, and then I'd be off to see the seven wonders of the Ancient World (or whatever's left of each of them). That would be the coolest trip EVER, in my opinion. SO cool.
