NaNoWriMo?

I so feel you. The reason I can't complete my three in-progress storylines is I do a CRAPLOAD of worldbuilding, and I get addicted. Take my Avriga space-opera-Star-Trek-Star-Wars-esque universe. I not only had to have a novel outline and character bios. No, I had to list ALL the majors the academy offered, even ones no main character would use. I started building class schedules. Instead of just inventing the 3 requisite spacecraft I came up with 7. I started listing all the professors. Then I started cataloging all the possible aliens and ALL the major worlds and...yeah.

I have very little story, very much world.

I'm doing NaNo this year. It seems rather scary, since I'm a slow writer.

So far it's hard and taking much longer to get through than I'd hoped, but I'm getting there.

7,000 words so far.

I just returned from a write-in (a great way to meet people now that I'm living in a new state) and have reached the 34K mark -- hopefully by next weekend I'll have hit the 50K goal.

One of the surprising aspects of this year's NaNoWriMo is the way it seems to have gained a degree of respectability in the writing world. Each week we receive a peptalk to keep us going and this year, instead of Chris Baty writing them all, we've had emails from Tom Robbins, Naomi Novik, Sue Grafton, Sara Gruen (I had no idea that Water for Elephants was a NaNoWriMo novel), and Neil Gaiman.

LOL! You 'Win' NaNoWriMo by writing a 50,000 word novel during November. Everyone who signs up and reaches the goal by November 30th wins. There are tons of winners, but I'm still proud of it anyway!
