Your Personas / Characters

I have two very favorites...  But I love every character I create or adopt.  They become 'mine'.

Triad (my only PERN club and the only one I'll ever have :) ).. has to be J'darin.   After 8 years writing in Pern Weyrs, J'darin was my VERY first bronzerider.   I just never had one before.

I created him and didn't adopt him, and sometimes thats easier to love.  Although I love N'klar too and I adopted him.   J'darin is the most interesting person I know.  He keeps surprising me and I love writing solo posts with him although I havent in a while.

I like Daynar alot too, although Dysali was my very first persona ever and I love her to death.  Like Becki said, D'ren and Dysali are too sweet and nice to hurt, although we're trying LOL

Non-Pern stuff ..

I've been writing in Robert Jordan's world for 12 or 13 years.   I started ages ago and I have a character I have had since then - Kallandra al'Kanntur, an Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah (for those who know the world).   She's old, smart, tough, and one of the first wolfkin Aes Sedai ever seen in AOL Robert Jordan Fandom.   She's as real to me as a child would be and she lives her own life even when I'm not writing her.   I have posted my writings with her in the "other writing" section for people to read.   My best work is with her and continues to be.

Also, I write a Black Ajah sister in this fandom named Morella Faiye.   She is sooooooooo bad.  I also wrote Semirhage (again for those who know) for a few years, and my writing partners became scared that I could write such evil things LOLOL

Like Eimi, I'm a sweet person, but when I write evil, I become evil LOL Maybe why I like Daynar so much.  All those evil instincts we supress must come out on the pages LOL

Come on, PCPs (that would be Paint Can People), fill in the blanks here.  Which was your 'best' character, and why?

Mikel

My all time favorite persona was Occhipinti.

He was the one that was most complete to me.  He was the one I most felt while writing.  Writing him was always emotional to me, more so than any other persona I wrote.

I look forward to bringing him back, possibly retired, certainly widowed.

No, he was named after a friend of mine, Joe Occhipinti.  Italian

My favorite from Triad was V'leran. Not because he ended up Weyrleader, but rather because I just clicked with him. He was very easy to write for.

There've been others at other clubs that have been like that for me... I tend to have a whole passel of personas, but only one or two that the words just flow for, all the time.

Kaysea

I can't decide between five of my old 'sona's (the number grows as each one pops into my head).  The names may sound familiar to a few of the 'oldies' and 'ancients':

Cayria - I created her as a favour to Angie, way back when PS was still around.  She needed a partner for one of her old riders, and Cayria surprised me with her back-story.  It came out of nowhere and rocked my socks.

J'gen - an old, injured bronze-rider/dragonhealer, who had the most amazing time with two wonderful partners.  Syrita who died of a growth and one of Mirri's creations to fill in where Syrita left off.  *sighs* I cried while typing Syrita's end...

Eris - my first sona to give birth... beautiful storyline and about my fourth ever PC.  Created as a Holders wife for Vix's Alternon????

T'shen - created just for Bree's character Nalilie...those two had fun :D

and lastly...

Jett - created for my dad. Jett was the Smithcraft Hallmaster at Pern Shadows.  My dads nickname was Jett and he was a steelworker, and I adored Jett!  Mikel created a partner for Jett but she was just a young thing, very innocent where Jett wasn't.... oh crap - I just remembered another one... Adahn... Jett's younger brother..... and then there was......I could go on....

Jane you shouldn't have started this thread, I miss them all!!!!!!!

Quote from: "Jane"Which of your characters (personas) is your favourite?  (This club, other clubs, former clubs, whatever.)  Is it the character who is easiest to write for?  The one who is most like you?  The first character you made?  The character who attained the highest rank?

You would think that with all of the hundreds of PCs and NPCs I've written for that this would be a hard question to answer, but it isn't. My favorite character of all-time is Ql'rin of Triad & Rocky Crater fame.

The easiest one to write for has got to be Piyer in all of his incarnations. He has done and gotten away with many a thing in a club, and about the only thing that I've not had him do was break the fourth wall and speak directly to the reader -- he's already unabashedly used OOC info ICly.

My first PC was J'yce -- six years ago this month -- and Piyer is just as old since he was born as an NPC to J'yce's first thread (round-robin club). Then someone made the mistake of telling me I could have more than one PC in a club, and the rest is history.

The highest rank isn't an easy answer since rank from club to club isn't always equal. I've written for a couple of Weyrleaders, several Craftmasters, a few Lord Holders, and at least one goldrider (not sure if there was a 2nd, but in any case these goldriders were very short, story-driven roles measured in weeks if not days).

Now... Which one is most like me? They all are. Each one of them is a reflection of some aspect or aspiration of me. And yes, I am ignoring the word "most" in that question, mainly because none of you would believe me if I didn't say it was Piyer.  :geek:

Well my FAVORTIE character of ALL TIME from ANY verse has to be... hmmm... this is tough... Oh I got it, my favorite character of all time has to be Anna McEssus and her alter ego/past-current life Aurum.  They were created as an NPC type thing for my Young Wizards persona, Keil Xavier Tar'Maraus (Isn't that the coolest name EVER!).  Aurum was his version of "the manual", she was a familiar.  (If you haven't read Diane Daune's books you deserved to be hit in the head with a running chainsaw :kettensaege: They're that good.)

In one of his story line's you found out that Aurum had developed feelings for him (which was slightly creepy because familiars are little firelizard like creatures with human level intelligence) anyways they were on a mission to a bad planet and Keil got hurt.  Aurum was so scared he would die she cried over his body (which is a miracle because familiars couldn't cry) and the tear healed him.  The Power's that Be then rewarded Aurum with the chance to be human and prove that she and Keil could work, and they basically split her into two separate beings, one familiar, one Human, with the same memories, but only the human one still had feelings for Keil.  And thus Anna was born.

It was my favorite story to write and come up with and those two surprised me in their magical transformation from NPC to full fledged character in about two minutes.  I liked them that much.  So thats my favorite character/persona.

They're among my most favourite books ever, Patrick!  Who knew there was YW fanfic.  Hmm.

Its not posted anywhere.  Just sitting in some notebooks int he back of my closet. Maybe I should get around to transferring them over. Hmm...

Hmmmmm. Riveenata was my first here, and I don't do as much with her as I want, which is why I plan to make her life hell pretty soon- fleshing out time! Talwynn is my "military" persona. When I was in Air Force Junior ROTC, and now in AFROTC in college, I take on a seperate no-nonsense-shut-up-do-your-work-NOW persona. Talwynn's a whole character created off that side. L'pin is fun because he's like your sweet semi-absent-minded heavily bookish professor- if said professor seemed to have really good luck having the ladies (or men)! K'ran is amusing because he's so atypical. Corran is also a focused dedicated persona like Talwynn, but he's much more able to relax and enjoy his life, and he's got a few stories to tell. And then there's Kapera, who you can't really spend time with unless it's a.) in the context of work (hatchings, threadfall, weyrwoman duties) or b.) in her bed. Sometimes there's c.) drinking as well.

But I'd have to say my favorite is Ishek, because he's so complex and layered. He's a good honest man who can get tasks done but can only relate to people, not order them around. But he's in a job where being nice is bad, where being ambitious and ruthless is usually best for your Hold, where you need to seize every advantage you can. He just wants a normal life with a woman he LOVES, but he has to marry (soon, hinthint) for alliance instead. He has to learn to act in accordance with rank. He really wants to be an ordinary man, and he can't be. The conflict between who his job wants and who he is is so much fun to play! I hope I convey him well.

I can't pin it down to any one or two personae. For me, what made the fandom characters was the relationships they were in, whether romantic, familial, friendly, or adversarial. I see fandom clubs as a way to interact, meaning that solos go against the purpose of writing in the clubs. Therefore, I remember more of my writing partners and how we clicked, rather than the characters themselves. AJ and I wrote several pairs in several clubs and always clicked. Likewise, Karen and I wrote together often. Bree, I didn't have as much opportunity to write with, though that did hold potential.

And I've been avoiding this thread:
I decided to check whether I had any old writing around and found only my RCWh and HP-type writing. When I reformatted my computer, I let go of the old characters and their lives, something I needed to do to get on with my real life. It makes me sad now, but was healthier for me at that time.
