Introducing: The Lake Weyrhold!

Hi Triad,

The Council is excited to let you know about a new plot we're setting up!

We'd like to unveil a cool new plotline that will span 2019. As those of you who have been here awhile know, we used to have 3 PC Weyrs.
We closed River Bluff Weyr two years ago because of a decline in posting volume, so we could consolidate personas in locations that were active and thriving. This set up a great set of storylines ICly which have had amazing repercussions throughout Triad. This year has started off with strong posting OOCly (over 100 posts in a single month!), and we've had a number of returning members. This seems like the perfect time to re-introduce a third Weyr to the club.

The Weyrs will get together and discuss setting up a replacement Weyr to eventually take back over at least some of the flight territories. They'll find a few candidate locations, pick one, and establish a Weyrhold there. This location will be in the old RBW flight area north of the mountains. At first, it will only be staffed with the workers constructing the location and a wing of dragonriders to provide insight into Weyr needs and transportation and the like. As construction moves on, it'll start filling out more, until eventually it's constructed enough to host enough riders to start flying Fall over its own lands, and then golds will be sent in and it will become a full Weyr in its own right.

We're hoping the club really enjoys this chance to craft a new Weyr location from the ground up, seeing it evolve from a temporary camp to a Weyrhold looking to a full Weyr as it's being constructed, up through flourishing into its own place as a full-fledged Weyr. There's a lot of IC potential for storylines here as the new place begins to grow and flourish with its own residents, as it begins its relationships with neighboring areas, as there may be struggles and setbacks in the construction.

What's The Timeline?

You may be wondering what the timeline is for the new place opening.

OOC Timeline:

-March: a Weyr conclave post where they agree on looking into establishing a new place and designate a search team(s)
-April: send out a post where the Weyr conclave reviews the locations and picks one to be designated temporary Weyrhold
-May: construction begins on the temporary Weyrhold
-June/July: first wing moves into the Weyrhold

How Can My Characters Get Involved?

Great question! There's a number of ways characters can get involved with the Weyrhold.

In the earliest stages, it's going to mostly need people doing construction. That means mostly laborers doing physical construction work, support staff handling laundry and cooking and other needs, and some crafters to oversee specialty parts (mostly miners, technicians, woodcrafters, healers at first). Retired dragonriders are also an option here - maybe you have someone who can't fly Fall because of dragon injury, but has a craft that might be useful, or maybe they are injured and can't labor but they can help provide watches and transportation.

When it becomes a Weyrhold, it's going to have a starter wing of dragons for protection and making sure it's suited for draconic life. This means an expansion in lower caverns support staff to handle domestic work for the extra people, more crafters from a broader variety of crafts coming in to work on additional tasks, and a few non-retired riders beginning to transfer in.

As the Weyrhold eventually becomes a full Weyr, it will receive a much higher dragon population: gold dragons to prepare for hatchings, more dragonriders to staff the wings, weyrlingstaff, etc.  These riders will be bringing their families in. Plus, the Weyrhold will now need a full complement of lower caverns personnel as support staff, a bunch of crafters, and candidates for the upcoming clutches. This is when it will get staffed with the same wide variety of personas as either of the other PC Weyrs.
