Learned Something New Today...

Today, I learned (via Wikipedia) that the funny bone is actually called the ulnar nerve.  It is the longest unprotected nerve in the body, and it is connected to the little finger of each hand.  The ulna nerve is exposed when you bend your elbow, and therefore, if you strike the bottom of your humerus bone, you will strike that unprotected nerve, and that's why it hurts so much.  Also, one possible reason it is called the "funny" bone is because of it's relation to the humerus bone, which sounds like the word "humorous".

And why did I bother to learn all this today?  Because today I caused trauma to my ulnar nerve to the point of contusion.  In other words, I smacked the heck out of my funny bone and now have a big ol' bruise  :crybaby:

And now you know, and knowing is half the battle...

i have a history of falling down stairs. Don't ask. Anyway, fell down them in high school once and caught myself with my hands. My right arm swelled up real bad with a goose egg, though it wasn't broken or anything. Mom made me go to the ER anyway since well..I had a big round thing on my arm and that's not normal.

Wasted a night of sleep but did get out school the next day.

Yeah, goose egg on the arm isn't so good.  I had a goose egg on my head once from when my brother threw me into a swimming pool and I didn't quite clear the side...  Yeah, was kind of knocked out for a second and came to at the bottom of the pool.  Luckily it was the shallow end, so all I had to do was stand up, but man did my brother catch hell from my mother for that one!

Well, I tipped a bookshelf on to my brother's head (three stiches). For some reason I was climbing up it like it were ladder. (Don't ask, I was under 10).
