... Weyr, perhaps it could be inland and mountainous, like some of the great ones pictured in the Atlas.  Surely not every Southern Continent dragonrider can walk to the beach each day after tea? :laughing5:  Where would you like another Weyr?

... Hold, perhaps it could be inland - way inland - toward the South Pole?  And have weather like northern Canada? :jg: Who would love that - or hate it?

... Hall, perhaps it could be -  Oh dear.  It seems I have no inspirations about another Hall, at all.   :ka:  Help me out, what Hall would you like, and where, and why?

The Bakers and Farmcrafters are also at Sapphire Meadows

My scattered ideas on the subject...

A Baker Hall would be great.  I know how to cook, so I feel like I know a bit more about it than some of the other crafts.

A large (or small) Sea Hold would be interesting and different.  I don't know how big the island is in the Sea of Asov (http://triadweyrs.org/list_locations.php), but it could be fun to have something there.  Or, to have small communities on some of the little islands near DCW on the map.  They could fish and travel to see each other and be along trade routes.  Or, on the website in the information about Opal Cove Hold, it says "each Sea Hold owns a few large vessels that spend most of their time following schools of fish as they migrate from one area of the Sea to another."  People on the boats could get lost in storms, or meet a new pod of dolphins, or decide to become pirates.

Maybe a Weyr near the South Pole wouldn't need to fight thread as much, since it would freeze in the air.  What do you think?

Really?

Though Anne's idea that volcanoes appear in mountain chains always seems odd to me.  Our volcanoes appear individually, like this:

And this:

I shall go and read up on Dream's End.

Did the rivers freeze and everything?  And the snow was up past the windows for months on end?

This is a great disappointment to me about all the current holds; they have remarkably mild winter climates for their inland/continental/mountainous locations.  We need more seriously snowy weather!  (Not exciting for you, Paula, but I come from a part of New Zealand that's only seen snow three times since it was cleared from the bush.)

Perhaps we could fiddle the weather at EFH to have an exceptionally hard winter? ;)

I'd like to make a SeaHold.  I'm saving up marks.  :applaus:

Like riverboats, but at sea!  That sounds like fun, even if there's no SeaHold.

Well, I think there's a lot of Southern Continent 'inland' before we need to get really near the South Pole, but that's an idea too.  An 'itinerant Weyr' that is staffed only during the brief Far South summer season.

Actually, that's an idea in itself.  I shall make a brainstorming topic in the SWE forum.

Sapphire Meadow's hold has pretty much the same climate as Emerald Falls Hold. Opal Cove would be "southest" hold on the map (next to Dragonsfall weyr) and the sea probably affects it's weather. But yes, a hold that get's snow bound for half of the year would be kind of fun.

It would also be fun and different to have a Weyr and Hold in the North.  As the website says, before Thread returned all the Weyrs were in the South.  Then Weyrs needed to be reestablished in the North.  So, almost all dragonriders are Southerners, which means lots of potential conflicts with Northerners who come to the Weyr and who live in surrounding Holds.

I like the hard winter at EFH idea.  Oh man what problems that could cause!

Chelle

I, like Paula, wouldn't mind a tundra Hold heh... Something like High Reaches? Too bad Pern doesn't have reindeer, though we can have dog sleds. :)

As for a Hall, there are so many places..farmers, miners, beastcrafters halls..

And for a Weyr, aye, I remember Dream's End and all of that. Maybe something that's a true Southern Weyr like Southern Weyr was... built not in a volcanic crater, but instead a series of buildings and such?
