Dragon/Firelizard breeding question

While I know it's not common, but if it were to happen and a brown caught a gold, would there be bronzes in the clutch?  I know no golds, but bronzes?

I've read somewhere theory that the gold carries genes to all colours, but bronze is need to get the gold (guess the bronze carries the "gold-gene". I wish I remembered where it was, some where in net's hundreds of Pern-pages.

I always just assumed that a gold's clutch would have all the colors equal to or "below" that of the male "plus one," if that makes any sense.  So, a gold-bronze pairing could have a gold egg because bronze "plus one" equals gold.  That would mean that a gold-brown pairing could have a bronze, although it might not be too likely.  I don't know if I've ever read this though.  I might just be making it. :-P

I've never heard anything about a "gold-gene," but that's an interesting thought.

When Kit Ping engineered the dragons the golds had the capabilities for all colors and the bronzes and browns carried the sperm for the whole range.  So theoretically, a brown/gold flight could produce a gold, we just haven't seen it and it's fanon belief that it doesn't happen.  Although I think this is wrong or else why would Kit Ping allow browns to be in the first hatching when she needed gold eggs to be produced for more breeders.  

Firelizards appear to have had all this ability originally because (I think it was) Paul and Bay that said that Ping didn't tamper with the breeding capabilities except that the greens won't produce eggs.  So again, theoretically a brown/gold pairing could produce a gold egg.  Green firelizards however don't have the ability to produce metallics (so no bronze or gold).  When green firelizard eggs survive to hatch they always contain either a brown, green, or blue.  

All that being said if we're talking genes... then the metalic gene appears to be with the females with the gold having them and the greens not.  So theoretically... if we ever had some weird freak of chance a blue/gold pairing could have a gold as well.

If a brown catches a gold the Flights are much shorter, therefore the Clutches are much smaller.  Since even if there is a bronze catching a gold there may only be three or four bronzes out of 40-some eggs, the chances of a brown siring bronzes is slim, though not impossible.  But I'd say at most 2 a dragon-sized Clutch.  Only 1 for a flit Clutch.

That's not a Council opinion, just my opinion.  We've never set a definite number, so if you have a plot in mind, feel free to shoot a message off to the Council and we can give you a definite answer.

Ikoladith was caught by Z'al's brown... and there was 1 bronze in the clutch Just for history reference.

Our FAQ says about green flits that they don't clutch in Triad because they can't remember where they laid their eggs... so they do have eggs, but who knows what happened to them? Not the mommy for sure!
