In the News at Lunchtime ...

In the news today I heard about stabbings in Japan ... Is it big news there, Eimi? The (British) reporter seemed to think people were very shocked by this random violence in their society.

And then about tornadoes and flooding in the US. Are any of the Triad people in the areas affected by these weather events? The news film of the tornado looked so typically mid-Western. Two story farm house sitting out in the middle of nowhere with the big funnel-shaped mass behind it.

I'm sorry but there was nothing on the lunch time news from Finland and Australia (except that you Aussies are having Queen's Birthday this weekend instead of last weekend like we did) but the English were newsworthy.

We've had flooding and tornadoes in the area for the last couple of weeks, but my house is un-flooded (I can't say dry because it's downpouring at the moment) and still standing so I can't complain.

luckily we weren't in the tornado areas but we did have a lot of rain and lots of flooding in the area. And on Saturday evening we had Hale. Scared us to death when it started hitting the sliding glass door. My poor mom can't leave her house because of the flooding. We live in Pewaukee WI near Milwaukee.

Yeah, it was really shocking news for a lot of people. But it certainly isn't unusual in Japan. The reason the man gave for attacking all those people was that he just wanted to try it. The scariest thing about violence in Japan is that its usually random and senseless. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, its usually brutal.
