My lesson for today is this...

I could never be a teacher.

I was training someone today at work and I realized I just don't have the patience. I wanted them to go faster, no that was not how they were supposed to place that order, why did they have to ask me all those questions? And half the time I justed wanted to do the work myself because if it weren't for that person I was training I could have gotten the work done in half the time so I would have had more time to chill. I mean it was so frustrating to the point that I wanted to :explodieren:

Oh, well, thank you, but you know I'm not a REAL teacher.  I visit all the classes, but I'm not responsible for any directly.  And this is more a part-time position than a career.  I have a lot of respect for people whose profession is a as teacher.  Like Roxanne.   I'm sure we have a couple other teachers or former tucked away somewhere.  It's a thankless job with long hours, not nearly enough pay, and not nearly enough recognition.

Vix is in one of the hardest and most thankless teaching specialties of all.  How she does her job without going crazy...well, it is a mystery to me.

And my husband.  He gets shivved at work sometimes.  Last week one of his kids kicked a large wall divider over onto him.  He needs hazard pay.

I almost went into teaching. I had a friend who worked with the disabled and troubled children in  middle school. The job was very stressful, however, and you had to be physically capable of restraining these kids. It was part of the job description. I was about to be hired there mostly because they were in desperate need and most of the kids were bilingual, but I was hired at the hospital last minute so I turned down the position.

After talking to a few of the teachers around here, I realized that teaching is not its cut out to be. You really have to enjoy your job, enjoy teaching in order to survive.

And I did not know Vix was a teacher...

Scary.  Yeah, teachers definitely don't get paid enough.

I'm a teacher, but only to my children.  I was training to become a teacher, but my children took priority.

And I'd be one of those employees you'd hate.  It always takes me a couple times to get things.  I need repition to remember things, and I learn visually, so if you just TELL me how to do something, there's a chance I'll forget a step.  If I see myself do it a couple times, I'm more likely to get it.  My best way to learn, though, is just by doing it and making mistakes.  Which is why I am petrified of working on computers.  If I make a mistake, I could cause way too much damage.

Technically I'm no longer a teacher -- I'm a center director in an early childhood learning center. However, I still spend sevearl hours each week teaching children or mentoring their teachers.

And yes, teachers/those in education are definitely underpaid. Even with younger children, I've gone home with bruises or more serious injuries, I've been battered mentally and emotionally by both children and parents, and I've often cried that I couldn't do more for some of them.

I quite liked tutoring new employees - which was lucky because we got a new one every year or so for the whole thirteen years I worked in that area.

The biggest challenge ever was a guy of whom somebody said - 'If it's a long weekend he'll have forgotten his password.' and who once was heard to say 'People.  P E O - Where's the P?  It was here a moment ago!'

You'd think a little computer literacy would be a good selection criteria for a desktop publishing job, huh?  Not, apparently, in the military!

When I was doing tech support, there were people hired who had no idea how to do anything but use basic applications.  They knew nothing about how to support internet services.  Unfortunately, the training programme wasn't very good either. :-/

I was called on a lot because I knew more about macs than most people. :-/

Matt did a lot of tech support at call centers, and he hated it.

They were constantly going through employees who would quite just a few months after being hired, so the company had to train more people. Matt was offered a position once to train employees. Obviously he turned it down because he did not have the patience for the people that they hired.

I hated it not because of that but because of the fact there was always the fear of being laid off.  I survived for or five layoffs, two or three major ones and a couple of small ones.  That was only in three years.

Matt got laid off at his last call center job. Now he finally has a steady job in retail, and I get awesome shoes for really cheap price because of his discount
