Although they are trying to make baseball and basketball big international competition sports.  I think just to give the Americans a chance ;)

Yeah, I think the US played Japan recently?

I got to watch a baseball match between Cuba and Japan in the 96 Olympics.  I lived in Atlanta and was a volunteer (though the reason I got to go to the game was because some friends from chuch got us tickets).  I wore my Japanese hat and had a Cuba and Japanese flag.  I rooted for the 'offensive' team. :-D

I think Soccer is the big  country against country sport, and hockey...

Honestly though, I'm not a big sport person except for around Olympic season, then that patriotic sports fan in me comes out.

Football is huge!!!  We were flipping between matches on Wednesday.  France vs England and Lwcsemburg vs Cymru (Luxembourg vs Wales - it was on the Welsh language channel). Scotland and Northern Ireland played as well.

There is a Euro 2008 tournament this year, but England didn't make it thanks to Scott Carson's idiocy in goal!  World Cup qualifiers start in September for South Africa 2010.

And there's Rugby too, but I won't mention that as Jane might set the All Blacks on me and they're big and scary!!!

In fact, I think ahighschool American Football team did that around here last year.  I think they did it to intimdate their rival teams.
