:help:
Ok unless I can't find it or have been look in the wrong places (highly likey :dark1: ) I have found no referance to the series of stones, mentioned in the 'Dragons of Pern' books.  :read2:

I'm talking about the group of stones that inculde eye rock (I think thats the right name - damn my rusty Pernese) - basicaly the rock that frames the presence of the red star perdicting thread fall.

The books also metion this stone/rock being used as a menory point for when travelling /between/.

I was wondering do thes collection of stones exist within the Triad Weyrs locations (DFW, DCW, RBW and any of the NPC Weyrs)

does anyone know??

Bree

That was something that existed AT Benden Weyr in particular. While it's possible that similar structures could have been built at various Weyrs in the South, they wouldn't have been necessary.

Remember that in our timeline, everyone on Pern was convinced that Thread had been destroyed 1,200 turns ago. No one was expecting it to come back, so there was no reason to worry about predicting when it would come back. 1,200 years is an awful long time... Imagine how much we've forgotten that happened in the year 805. ;)

As for traveling in /between/... there would be recognizable visual points at each Weyr and Hold, things that the dragons and riders would be taught. The Eye Rock would only be useful for traveling to Benden... since I doubt the Dragonsfall Weyrleader wants his entire wing to return to Benden after a Fall, it wouldn't matter. ;)

Just thought I'd point out, the map of River Bluff Weyr has 'Star Stones' marked above the sands  :) Also, weren't the stones introduced in all the old Northern Weyrs in the book 'Red Star Rising,' which was pre-second or third pass? I'm not quite sure which, though :(

Eimi

I believe they were introduced in all the Northern Weyrs.  But even if River Bluff had a star stone its doubtful it would have been used for the same purpose.  It might have been more monumental.  How would they know where the Redstar should be when Thread returned if they don't even KNOW Thread will return?  I would say in that case it's purely decoration.

Bree

Exactly. Even if every Weyr had a set of star stones, they'd hardly be accurate to a schedule that wasn't supposed to exist. ;)

I think the River Bluff's star stones are like statue... reminding them of their past. They are also the place where the watch rider on duty hangs around.
