Suzee

Hey all.  Sometimes we just need to get to know one another and now that we have several new/returning members, I thought it might be fun to make a new thread about it.

I'm Suzee and have been with Triad now since about 2010. There have been stories in my head since I was a kid.  I discovered Anne McCaffery probably before most of you were born (in the 60's) and have followed her books ever since.  Computers weren't around back then so I've bought various versions of her books multiple times.  My favorites of her were were "The Ship who Sang" series and obviously "Dragon Riders of Pern."

I didn't discover online Role Play until about 2008 and that via Star Trek. But I love it now and I love this club and all of you!

This is me:

I live in California and have 4 adult children.  I have my degree in Music with an intense love of art in my background. I love reading all your stories and writing with you.

Tell us about you and show us a recent picture! Please!!??!!

Leigh

Hi y'all! I'm Leigh M-F, or just Leigh. I live in a small commuter city in Colorado with my parents (their rent is literally the cheapest in town) and my puppy, Donovan Chaucer (Donnie for short). Currently I work two part-time jobs, which leaves me with way too much time on my hands, so I'd like to make a novelist of myself with that time, though it's slow going. In the meantime, I'll be here, flailing, worrying, hoping everyone's doing okay, offering what moral support I can, and looking forward to what happens next in Triad.

I discovered Anne McCaffrey's work in the fourth grade or so, on the recommendation of one of my mom's employees. I fell in love with Pern and the Talent series pretty fast. I started gaming online in 2001, and I joined Triad Weyrs in 2013 after stints in three other Weyrs. So far, things are working out here pretty well, largely in part to having great people to work with :-)

I like movies and TV, anime and manga, music and movie nights, fantasy and sci-fi, reading and writing, and of course, gaming with y'all. :-)

(I'd like to add a picture, but I deleted my Photobucket account 'cause it's useless now. Help?)

Eimi

Well, let's see...  I'm Eimi and I first joined the club in 2004, but had to made a sudden departure do to real life issues in 2014.  I found my way back early this year now that life has settled down somewhat.  The meaning behind my avatar is that I was given the nickname "Evil Eimi" by a wonderful former member named Bree, who called me that because of my habit of being "evil" to my personas and never making life too easy for them.  Also, I really enjoy writing villains.  So the "Evil Eimi" avatar is still the one I use for the club today.

I first was introduced to Anne McCaffrey by my mother.  I'm not sure when she became a fan of the books, but I remember seeing them in my house at a young age.  When I was around junior high, she started reading them aloud to me (something my family did together a lot).  I also loved the "Ship Who" books.  Aside from AM, my favorite authors are C.S. Lewis, John Steinbeck, Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, Jane Austin and the Bronte sisters (I tend towards the classics!).

I have lived in Japan for the last 13 years, but I am originally from Washington State (west, middle and east sides!).  I work in both a private high school as an assistant language teacher, and at my own English conversation school teaching from age 3 to 71.  My hobbies are driving and watching documentaries.  I also love watching sports.  I am a die hard Seattle Seahawks fan (NFL) as my mother and grandmother were from the beginning of the team (I am in fact sitting my my 'Hawks hoodie right now and drinking coffee by the bucket because I woke up at 5am this morning to watch the game live).  I love playing board games and will never pass up a chance to pull one out.  And I have a passion for genealogy.

So, this is not a picture of myself, but it is a picture of the town I live in.  It's a small town of less than 80,000 people spread out over a wide area (most of it little mountain or fishing villages).  This picture was taken from the ruins of the castle that once stood in my town, but is now just stones.  They have found evidence of people living in the area for about the last 5000 years.

Paula

Hi, I'm Paula, I live in Finland, in one of the sub urbans around our capital city. In case you don't know where Finland is, that's northern Europe, next to Russia. I'm married with two kids. Older one is now 18 and the younger one 13...yeah, there is teen drama at the home.

I've been member of Triad since...stops to count...forever. I actually joined one the original clubs that then merged to form Triad Weyrs. Yes, been here from the start. I did take year or so off when my daughter was born. I discovered AM's books when I was in the high school and started to read thru the library's selection of english sci fi and fantasy books (yeah, not a great selection but they did have few Anne MacCaffrey's books.) I think one of them was The Rowan and the Dragonflight. I have been writing stories since I was able to write, I had pile of notebooks for that as a kid. All I have to do is read a book, play a game or watch a movie and the characters start to tell their own stories inside my head.
One of our former members, Mikel, once duped me to "Fiendish Finn." What can I say, I like evil plots and torturing my sonas.

Sorry, no picture, for same reason than Leigh's...the photopucket. Besides, I don't do selfies. I do have lot of pictures of my kids though.

>> I discovered Pern when I was in the 6th grade, I was already into books about dragons (Dealing with Dragons by Patricia Wrede, and Dragonwings by Laurence Yep) and just came across the title "Dragonriders of Pern" while I was browsing the book shelves. I read DragonFlight/DragonQuest/The White Dragon first and ever since they have been my favorites. I've read all of the pern books now, but DF is still my first love.

>>I've been at Triad on multiple occasions. The first, was when I waaass 15ish? I joined when there were like, three different sites? I was at Dreams End. I'm not sure what the year was, but then I joined again in 2004 for a short stint, but it didn't stick. Then I joined Triad for the final time 7/28/11 with Clancey-poo as my Mentor :) It stuck this time ;)

>> My first piece of writing was a Sailor Moon fanfiction, but that was before internet was really prevalent in homes, so I had no idea what "fanfiction" was.

>>I live in North Carolina, USA, in the foothills. I've attached a picture for reference.

>>I'm 28, a High School English teacher, I'm married, I have a daughter who will be 1 on Nov 16th

>>I am an introvert.

Len

Okay, I'm Lenore (Len for short) and live on a mountain in South Wales (if anyone has ever seen the film 'The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain...well that mountain is my view, just to give an idea of what it looks like here). For anyone who doesn't know where Wales is, it's a tiny country between the Irish Sea and England, and is part of the UK. I work part-time as a photographer and as an LGBT romance author. This explains my long absences at times...it's hard to write both for work and for a hobby! >.<

I've been married 11 years and have a young son who has a frightening memory for all things F1 and cycling. Actually watching pro-cycling is something our little family all shares, and we've been to see the Tour de France twice now.

I've been a member of Triads since 2010, with G'wen and Neath being my very first personas. The dragonriders books have been in my life since I was 12 and I generally will read the original six books once a year. It's true comfort reading. :-)

I'd do a pic but haven't a bloody clue how to!!

Yvonne

Hello all! I'm Yvonne, I live in Canada (the western part) and have been an on-and-off Triad member since 2002. Triad was not my first PbEM though - I started with a Mercedes Lackey writing group when I was very young, and then moved on to a Laurell K. Hamilton group which I wrote in for many years. My best friend from that group enticed me to join Triad and I've been here ever since.

I think my first Anne McCaffery book was Dragonsong. I'm a big fantasy reader overall, but my reading tastes are rather eclectic and I tend to like individual books rather than having favourite authors. Some of my current favs include "The Manual of Detection" by Jedediah Berry, "Zoo City" by Lauren Beukes, "War for the Oaks" by Emma Bull, "Truthwitch" by Susan Dennard (also the sequel and also she should hurry up and finish the series already), and "A Tale For the Time Being" by Ruth Ozeki which made me cry. This list will undoubtedly change over time.

I live in a winter city with my husband and dog. I hate winter. I like to travel, love to eat delicious things (and therefore have learned to cook - and learned to love cooking), play board games, listen to too many podcasts, and rock climb badly. HI.
