HELP!!!!

My laptop gave me the dreaded blue screen of death last night (it was on its last legs) and I am now looking for another. I was looking into a Chromebook, as I use the hell out of Google, but classes require me to upload papers as .docx files. I need suggestions!

I got a Sony Vaio and I love it. It was very affordable but has run like a champ with no hiccups whatsoever.

Dell has an Inspiron Laptop in the range of a Chromebook. It comes with Windows 8 and a test version of Office. You can also get a "student" version of Office for around $75

And you might check with your school to see if they have Office365 for students. If they do, it would probably be free to you.

My personal experience-Dell's don't do very well in the long run.
Laura had issues with her Toshiba and so did Kristen....

Me-I've always had HPs. You can get one now fairly cheaply. The first one was great and it still worked but it was so old I finally recycled it. The second one was awesome until someone stole it. Now I have this one.

But yeah youd still have to purchase Office though most of them come preloaded with it. You just have to buy an activation code.

Wow Chelle, I've never had that problem with my Dell's. I've had both laptops and pc's that have run great for years. I've only replaced them when the technology became out dated.  3-4 years per. But then I also am a gamer and can push a pc pretty hard.

Like Chelle I had trouble with my Dell, it seemed to slow down very quickly after I got it (and I keep everything on an external harddrive). My toshiba used to overheat like crazy but my husband has always had HPs and they have held up great.

There's a reason why so many people use Dell for work and pleasure - they are the Volvo's of the PC world, they may not look pretty, but they run and run and run...

I've used Dell for work and personal use for years now, and you can't beat them for reliability

I ended up getting a itty bitty convertible tablet thinkpad. It runs great,is for light business/school and pretty much is what I needed. Plus, it's easier to carry. I did take my big HP to the repair shop and they're going to be working on it to see if they can fix what the issue was and if not, see if they can salvage my data.

Thinkpad, nice choice! The laptop my college gave me was a thinkpad and it's still running like a champ!

This is a great thread - thanks for sharing! My HP's graphic card is starting to go (I can't play anything on Vimeo) and it's slowed WAAAY down, but I think that has a lot to do with the massive programs I ran on it for school. I'll probably be in the market for a new toy sometime soonish. Or maybe laterish. :P
