Because I Deserved It...

To celebrate the end of the long summer which seemed to last FOREVER, and cashing in on all the good karma I earned by taking care of THREE newbies in town on top of everything else, I went on an $1000 shopping spree on Sunday.  New 70cm TV (not huge by most standards but 30cm wider than my previous one), a beautiful new TV stand to hold it (took me 3 and a half hours to assemble), a new DVD player (that will play not only my BBC dramas, but CDRW which means FIREFLY the way God intended!), shelves for my closet (I can have futons AND stuff now!), and a takoyaki maker (because who doesn't love octopus balls???).  Oh, and we can't forget the chocolate milk shake from McDonalds.  Icing on the cake, I'm telling you!

Now the only thing left on my list of things to buy to complete the spree (and considering I had budgeted $1000 and have so far only spent $800, I have enough to buy it still!) is the 16gb ipod nano to replace the SECOND one I've managed to lose!

So if you had $1000 for a shopping spree, what would you buy?

So that's £652..... If it's going on frivolous things then...

I could definitely afford that kindle I have my eye on, and some books for it. That's leave me with a little less than £500.  Which might have to get spent on a blu-ray player and some discs for it. Anything left over, well I might attack my wish list on amazon.

I second Emma's vote for a Kindle!

Also, I'd pick up some cute sweaters for winter, and an electric toothbrush. Am I the only one who hates brushing their teeth because it exacerbates their carpal tunnel?

Glad to hear you had a great shopping spree, Eimi :-)

Wow. $1000...

1. Kindle (I've been wanting one for FOREVER too)=$140
2. Sex and the City all seasons on DVD=$115
3. Home Theater System for my lovely 42inch HDTV (Mom's buying me a BluRay for christmas)=$550
4. Remaining $200-would be cool to get some new clothes. I noticed the other day I don't have any nice blouses.

In reality, though I'd use $800 or so to pay off the credit card then put the rest in savings. Heh.

Yeah, I'd been saving up that money for a while working extra classes in the evening and on weekends ;)

And thank God I DIDN'T buy a new IPOD!  I decided to make one more final last ditch search for it, and guess what I found shoved into the back of my best at work!  I have my ipod again :D

Gee, I wouldn't know what to do with such budget....problem is that we don't need much about anything.

Maybe clothes... ipad (Kindle isn't available in Finland.) some books... arg!

I'm with Emma about tackling that wish list over at Amazon.  Or perhaps buying an 8x10 large format camera and darkroom stuff, or maybe just a plane ticket to Saratoga Springs.  My dad, and brother and I went there every year from the time I was 12, and I've not been back now since I moved.

On more thought... I would buy new couch/sofa/living room furniture.

Yeah, the next few month's evening classes is probably going to go towards a coach.  Or save up so I can move out of my current apartment.  I haven't decided which yet...  I've loved this apartment for six years, but it's starting to get a little too small...  And I want a cat...  Since it seems I'm not going anywhere any time soon!

As you all may know or have heard, the housing market in the US has dropped dramatically and for the first time in decades people here are finding themselves upside down in their mortgages. It really has been hard for many people.

The upside for me is that I was divorced several years ago and we sold the house before the big losses. I've been saving and saving for a long time and finally just a year ago here in San Diego. I found a fabulous new condo. The price was amazingly low for our area at just over $215k.  I love my new place.

So, during that time I took some those savings and bought the new living room furniture and TV (it also took me about 4 hours to put that together). I gifted myself a Kindle and absolutely love it. I even have most of the DRoP books on it.  I can read to my hearts content and am increasing my collection over time.

Now, if I had that $1,000 it would go toward a new Diningroom table.  The one I have is round and only seats 4 since I had been in such a small apartment.  But now with the huge greatroom I have room for a much larger table.  Imagine that! I'm dreaming of it already!!!

Eimi, congratulations on your shopping spree!! You _did_ deserve it.

Eimi

That's sweet Suzee!  It's so much fun dreaming big!  It's even better making it happen :D
