The Cruelty Of Man

Since most of you probably don't read my journal...sharing something that happened today.

Today I went to church for our monthly FaithWorks meeting. We make baby quilts for a pregnancy advocacy center. After that, I stopped by the local farmer's market. On my way home, just a couple of miles from my house and out on the main highway that I turn off of, I witnessed a cruel event.

A truck was barreling down the highway and all of a sudden, a kitten came flying out the window. It was a good thing there wasn't a car behind that truck because if there had been, the kitten would have been killed. I stopped as quickly and as safely as I could, turned around, and went back.

The kitten was huddled in the grasses and as soon as I went up and called to him, he came right over to me. I picked him up and put him in the passenger seat. He settled down without a sound and just stayed there, lying down with his head upright. His eyes looked clear and he didn't seem to be disoriented. I brought him home, though I halfway cried on my way home. Some people are just so CRUEL.

The kitten is hurt, though it doesn't look like it's too bad. Nothing is broken or sprained because he's walking around and has even jumped over a couple of things. His rump has been scraped. When he landed, it wasn't on his feet but on his side - the side where the injury is. There's also a minor scrap on his jaw.

I called a friend whose wife is a vet. She said I could put neosporin (just a little bit) on the wound. I wiped it off with a wash cloth as best I could before doing so. This kitten is so sweet! Didn't attempt to scratch or bite while tending the wound, very quiet (except when other cats approach, then he growls, though we didn't let them get too close and he's now quarantined). He's willing to just sit in your lap and be petted.

I really want to keep him but we already have five cats and Kurt refuses. I can't blame him really, though it doesn't take away my desire. My friend's wife said she'd help find a home for him.

I just don't know why people do stuff like this, especially to ones as sweet as him!

0_o I hope whoever did that gets a swift kick in the groin with a pair of pointy toed pumps. Or gets thrown out of a moving car. Either, or.

Thank goodness you were there, Amanda. That poor kitty would probably have died if it weren't for you. *hugs* I'm sure that you'll find him a really good home, with someone who doesn't have the mistaken belief that animals can be thrown out with the trash.

...and even if they DID think that animals could be thrown out like trash, whoever thinks its okay to throw their fast food garbage out the window of their moving vehicle ALSO deserves a swift kick in the groin with a pair of pointy pumps.

Glad the kitty isn't hurt too bad. Cruelty like that makes me fly into a killing rage.

Ouw, poor kitty. So glad you could rescue him. And I agree with Yvonne. Some people deserve a swift kick where it hurts mosts.

been reading along with the whole debacle. and i have to admit i know people that are...not great with animals. lets share a story shall we...

I have a cousin that's 7 years older than me. Since he was about 17, he's been in trouble with the law one way or another. Been in and out of jail most of his life. He's had three kids that he knows of, all by different women. Two of them he has nothing to do with. The third he's taught to behave badly since he thinks it's funny. He abuses his girlfriend. He doesn't treat other people with respect and he thinks life is one big party since he's never had to take responsibility.

He's been a drug dealer, a thief, a drug user, and a seller of stolen things. Who knows what else he's done..

Well he had a pit bull. She was a nice dog despite the breed having issues. One day he just drove her out to some pasture field and left her there. I don't know what became of her. It's not so bad as throwing a kitten out of a moving vehicle or even some of the other things I've heard of but..he's an idiot. But if he can't respect himself, how is he supposed to respect other people and animals?

*sigh* I'm ashamed to be related to such an idiot.
