It's set for 2011    I hope Copperheart does "Dragonflight" justice!

I also heard somewhere that Michael Whelan (the artist who did the gorgeous paintings for the USA covers) is working with the art team of the movie too.  Here's to hoping the creative minds out there bring Pern to life the way I've imagined it since I was 12 years old!

The last two are beautiful!  If Jaxom and Ruth are in the first movie though, that means that they're putting them at the same time as Lessa impressing... I'd heard they might do that, I still don't know if I like it though.

I don't think that they're putting Ruth and Jaxom in the movie.  The artist is a big fan of Pern...he probably couldn't pass up the chance to draw those characters, especially since they will make more Pern movies if Dragonflight does well

I did some digging, and while nobody knows for sure, there seems to be a consensus that those are probably the concept art for the previous attempt at the Dragonriders TV series, the one with Ron Moore on board.  That was the one that had Lessa, Kylara, and Jaxom as drudges and friends.  Of course it could be for the current incarnation too, I'd like it if it was because they are beautiful and I would love a poster of the Jaxom/Ruth one. :D

Wasn't the TV series supposed to come out a long time ago?  Like, in 2002 or something?  Those pics were posted March of 2008, so they may indeed be for the new movie    Who knows!  I'd like to think they're for the new movie  :D  And I totally want the Ruth and Jaxom one too, Cali.  Maybe the artist is selling prints on deviantART

No luck on the deviantart prints :(  They're only of a few monster face stuff.  If it is for the new movie it's probably copyrighted or something legal like until the movie comes out. Then they'll sell prints for $100 *yuck*

I'm not holding my breath on the movie now anyways.  After being bumped from 2009 to 2011 and the studio being a small time thing, if it ever gets into production I'll be amazed. I'll also be the first in line...   :sunny:

Dunno if it helps anything, but Todd (at DragonCon) said he was rereading Dragonflight to see how it would sound and look as a movie. Which means he himself is writing or advising on the writing of the screenplay. Which also means it likely isn't written yet if he's thinking about it just now. So that may be why things have been moved back.

Do you think it will be on the big-screen or be a major motion picture?

Well I think after the success of the Lord of the Rings and Eragon, fantasy movies are becoming more mainstream. So actually, this might get a push just because of those franchises. Also, they're definitely liking the fact that modern technology can do our dragons justice. The other thing is that there are alot of recurring people working on these films. Peter Jackson/WETA for example.

Anyway, we'll see, but I'm excited though it will be FAR off.
