The forums been so slow lately that I want to liven it up with funny little thing from real-life.

One of the few original etnic-minorities in Finland are romano (aka gypsies). Some of them still use their traditional costumes: Big, black velvet skirsts, lace blouse (it has a special name) and lots of gold-jewelry. They are usual darker skinned and black haired.

Guess what my daughter (3 years) called them when two of these traditionally dressed ladies walked by us?

I think that is very sweet Paula.

My dad's family used to camp with the gypsies in the UK in the 40's and 50's during their holidays.  My granddad used to sing gypsy lullabies to me and my brothers and cousins, when we were little, to get us to go to sleep.

When we went back to the UK in 1988 to introduce Melanie to her great grandparents (she was only 8 months old) my granddad would sing her to sleep the same way.

I love gypsy music and have had two german shepherds, both called Gipsie.

PS: You're right - the forums have been quiet, I expected a lot more reading when I came back than what was waiting for me.  Come on everyone - where have you all disappeared to?  *hopes she hasn't passed on her flu to everyone*

I've been busy at work - and I hurt my shoulder in the gym, which isn't exactly condusive to typing!

And the nearest to Royalty anyone in my family has been - my Father attended a reception at St James' Palace in London last November where the Queen and Prince Phillip were in attendance.

There's the problem: it hasn't been busy. I'm really not into holding a monologue, so no reason to post.

Well I'm back again, sorta.  So we can run through the forums creating mayhem - again! *cheeky grin*

As to Royalty - I was about 50 metres away from Charles and Diana back in 1982/83 (forget which year it was a LONG time ago) when they visited Australia.

They came to Bendigo where I was posted at the time, and I can still picture them up in the balcony of the Shamrock Hotel waving down to the crowds.  It was crazy!  You couldn't move/breath/wave - anything to Mall was so packed.
Unfortunately, though they visited Fortuna the Survey Unit, they didn't come and visit the little A-Res Unit I was working at as Cadre Staff.

But  of course this was when they were first married and everyone thought we had a perfect fairytale wedding.

Oh! And my cousin prepared flowers for the Queen when she visited Liverpool and stayed at Lord Derby's estate.  Julie was the florist for Lord Derby at the time.  That was back in 1993 and I have photo's of the arrangement, and the Brittannia down at the Liverpool docks.

(Can anyone tell I have missed the forums??? LOL)

And yet you're refusing to reply to Emma's post about the rugby.  Get your backside in there and share the pain with me!  (Except I'm in denial.)

*G* I've been working too, and 12 hour days don't leave me with much internet time, or inclination.

However, I can beat that... my Dad LIED to the Queen! When he was in his twenties he spent a summer in the Yukon, and he grew an enormous shaggy beard. Anyway, the Queen came to visit so he thought he'd go and see, and the Queen aparently paused when she walked by him and said, "You look like you've been up here for a long time," to which my Dad replied, "I sure have!"
