Rules for chocolate

I was at a friend's house, and grabbed a chocolate square.

As I was chewing happily, I was informed that there were rules for this chocolate, and I had to follow them. Sure enough, on the back of the box was this...

These are the simple rules for a correct dark chocolate tasting:

1 - Warm up the chocolate in your hand without unwrapping it; cold chocolate cannot express itself.
2 - Unwrap the chocolate and observe it carefully; it must have no spots or imperfections and its color must be all alike. With it's shininess it is a pleasure for the eyes as well.
3 - Hold the dark chocolate square between your fingers and smell it; the dark chocolate squares intense fragrance is the second gift your senses will enjoy.
4 - The ritual wants that you keep the square at the center of the tongue, intact, while encountering the palate until the dark chocolate square melts, slowly.
5 - The chocolate becomes supple, while the wide variety of flavors expands itself. In silence the sensations will redouble theirselves: you will savor the strength first, then the variations, finally the persistent aftertaste.
6 - Now that it's almost all gone, you will be able to tell what a real pleasure it all was.
7 - At this point you can start all over again. Enjoy the dark chocolate squares!

I didn't know any of that. I just eat the thing. Of course, it's quite the treat for me since I'm lactose intolerant. I have chocolate maybe once a month at most, so it's ALWAYS a treat no matter how slow or quick I eat it.

Pfft.

I'm a girl and I don't do any of that stuff. I pop the chocolate in and chew and swallow and I enjoy it plenty while doing so.

Quite right, Amanda. That way we're ready to grab the next piece waaay before we would be doing that long, drawn out savouring process.

Uh-uh. The more you pay for the chocolate, the longer it better take to eat it! :D

You don't have to savor a herseys bar, but no chowing down godiva or for gods sake anything better!

It's an offense against the chocolate gods!

NEVER BE MORE THAN 12 STEPS AWAY FROM CHOCOLATE!

This one is just totally not true! If chocolate is not kept at a constant room temperature it can discolor and become kind of "cloudy." However, that is not an indication that it has gone bad!

Ah, but as I will only ever pay so much for chocolate, that's not such a concern. *G*

That reminds me...I have a HUGE box of Godiva I got for Valentines Day with pieces still in it!!!
