Jade Harbour Hold (beholden to River Bluff Weyr)

HISTORY

Founded mid-way through the Ninth Pass as a stopping-off point between the Northern continent and the many holds bordering the Great Sea, Jade Harbour quickly became a prosperous small port. By the end of the Pass, its population had increased nearly ten-fold. The warm climate and surrounding countryside drew many people who where looking for a place to retire after the Pass. With the sudden influx of people, the Hold Healers looked to building a bigger place for themselves. After a few turns of planning, their dream became a reality and a Healer Hall was established about ten turns after the pass ended.

LOCATION

The weather is mostly sunny all turn long. While it does get a good deal of rain and moisture, it somehow manages to be missed by the major rain storms that occur during the summer months. The humidity is always high and it varies from noticeable to down right miserable depending on the time of season.

BUILDING INFORMATION

There are four minor Holds and about a dozen outlying cotholds. The main Hold itself while not being very high makes up for it in the amount of space over which it sprawls. The Lord Holder's apartments are the only ones the have any height and that is due to being set atop a hill. The rest of the Hold either gently descends towards the harbor or up and over the hill and into the valley beyond.

TECHINOLOGY LEVEL

Technicians Hall is experimenting with a new type of Wind power. There is also speculation about possibly trying some form of Solar energy. The aspects haven't been worked out yet, but it is under consideration. Technicians Hall is very new, founded within the past turn. Not much is known about the craft except that they seem to always be using the newest tools and latest ideas.

FEMALE POLICY

Jade Harbour currently adheres to the female craft bans, with the exception of its Technicians Hall, which is Northern-aligned rather than Southern.

POPULATION AND PLAGUE EFFECTS

When the plague swept through, it made quick work of many of the outlying cotholds. The population was cut in half. While there are still about eight hundred people living there, it is nowhere near what it was at its height before the plague.

ECONOMY

Jade Harbour's name comes from the deep green color of the sea and the many brilliant white beaches. It's naturally deep harbor allows for even the largest of ships to anchor close to land if not right at the docks. While starting out as a small fishing hold and growing into a major port, Jade Harbour is known primarily for farming and trading. They have a small fishing fleet, but it is not what it used to be, since most of the fishing areas have dwindled or moved on. Its warm climate is ideal for growing citrus fruits and almost every hold, from the small cotholds to the main hold itself has an orchard of some kind. Its other main trading crop is cotton, of which field after field can be seen growing.
