Wild Yam
Leaves: ovate with fine hairs underneath
Flowers: small yellow-green flowers with a capsule shaped fruit
Stems: thin reddish stems
Height: up to 15 ft long
Location: perennial vine grows in thickets and bushy areas
Harvest: fall
Dangers: Avoid in pregnancy and do not use on broken skin.
Healer use: Wild yams are used for menopause, cramps, rheumatism, stomach colic, gallstones, flatulence, and as a skin moisturizer. It is an antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory.
