Hi!
So, Heather and I have an idea about starting a copost, but I haven't been able to find the answer to a question I had that will affect this copost and need to be mentioned in another I'm working on as well as future ones.
How are days on the calendar arranged? Like, if you equated them to RL days, would the sevenday start with 'monday' or with 'sunday?'
So, does the Restday fall on the first day of the sevenday (like Sunday) or does it fall on the end of the sevenday (like Saturday).... :glasses I too am interested to know this, haha. I've never really thought about it.
I think that prior to the resumption of threadfall, there was a 'set' day in the week for 'restday'
But for Riders, this can never happen on a "Fall" day. So, in my opinion, "Rest day" adjusts for riders to the day after a fall. Yes, this does mean that various areas of Pern will have different rest days. But it's the only way to be assured it never happens on the day of fall for anyone.
I hope this makes sense!
:evil

So do you think Holds would also adhere to this, since they are the groundcrews on Threadfall days?
Besides the placement of restdays for holders, which I am interested in as well, I need to know if the 'first day' of the week would be considered 'Monday' or 'Sunday' (if you correlated them with earth days) because Heather and I are working on a schedule for my guard where he alternates days being like a door guard and doing regular patrols. Depending on the answer, I may need to change the date on a copost I submitted to my mentor (which is approved, but I'm holding now to find out the answer).
So, I've gone ahead and assumed that the sevendays start with 'monday' and end with 'sunday' as the restday for holders. If you guys are still deciding this officially, let me know so I can adjust. I think I put the wrong date on my first post anyway. lol
That's always been my take too, restday = sunday. There's no reason why Hold would vary from this, even with the Thread Falling.
Groundcrew duty isn't reason to move the restday, there are jobs in Hold that has to be done, restday or not. Those people just gets day off some other day.
I'd always thought the restday was "Sunday" too (the seventh day of each week, so the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th of each month) but couldn't remember where I got that from...
Then I found this in the weyrling training guide (http://www.triadweyrs.org/faq.php?q=weyrlingm5):
QuoteAll schedules are for the first six days of each sevenday. Weyrlings are given a restday on the seventh day of each sevenday, unless Thread falls that day. If Thread falls on the restday, the Weyrlingmaster will designate an alternate restday for the sevenday.
So according to this, like Suzee said, the restday is changing depending on Thread for the weyrlings (and probably the wingriders too since they'd be working even harder that day!) but otherwise, the restday is on the last day of the week. Of course, this FAQ is just about weyrlings, but it would seem to make sense that they'd pick a restday schedule that the hold and craftbred weyrlings would be familiar with?
Awesome, thanks! :D
