Title: Triad Persona Stats
Post by: Heather on November 22, 2017, 01:32:18 PM
So me and Avery have been playing with stats in our free time (like a couple of nerds, honestly  :glasses) and here are some interesting numbers for ya! (I've included a viewable link (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kO9VsXH6G03mT_zz2iQqKQdxB2rGI7KrxHBBiCpaPAg/edit?usp=sharing) to the spreadsheet where the magic happened, but it's really full and requires some side scrolling, so the best parts are listed below so you don't have to click unless you wanna!)

These first two tables include info from all ACTIVE DRAGONRIDER PERSONAS in the club.

Great work! hmm, not suprised that greens are most numerous but bronzes are bit over-prented.  :greendragon

I know :( poor browns, they're the least popular it appears, closely followed by blues.

It is super interesting to look at the color breakdowns, huh? Green popularity doesn't surprise me at all, because it's the most easily accessible option if you want to play a female rider (and even those of us with golds may only have one so if we want more than one female rider, we make greenriders).

For the male colors, I'm guessing bronzes get a high representation because they're a requirement for certain ranked positions (Weyrleader, Wingleader) and strongly preferred for a few other ranks (Weyrlingmaster, Wing/Weyrling 'Seconds). Weyrling bronzes are also fairly popular. And creating an unranked bronze now can give you a persona who already exists so if a rank you might want one day comes open (ex Wingleader or Weyrleader) you've got someone for it.

That said, brownriders have the options of being seconds, so I'm surprised there aren't a few more of those around. Maybe it's the stereotypes of brown as kind of stodgy that makes them less popular, or people opting for bronze instead if they have the bronze/brown choice? Blues only qualify for Wing/weyrling third as rank, but they're bisexual and can be played with a lot of different stereotypes and interact with a number of other sonas, so I wonder if they're popular for those reasons.

Edited to add:

Heather and I just ran some gender numbers. Of all dragonriders, we have 71 male and 36 female. Of the greenriders, Triad has 31 female and 11 male.

I tend to wonder if the reason there's more Bronze than Brown, is because Bronze can do everything that a Brown can PLUS win a gold flight. Now, don't get me wrong, Browns can win junior flights, but it doesn't happen often around Triad :) Could that play in?

As far as male greenriders, I'm so sad there's so few of them.... Hence the adoption of R'sedel!

So we ran some more numbers, this time looking at Riders who are also Crafters! Here's a screenshot and some analysis:(https://i.imgur.com/tHucBe9.png)

By Location:

There's a higher proportion of crafter-riders at DFW than at DCW. OOCly, it's probably random chance as to where people created the rider and if they decided on a Craft for them beforehand or not.

But ICly, it's fun to think about what this might mean. Do people at Dolphin Cove enjoy laying around on the beach in their free time, rather than pursuing a craft? Because the weather is less nice at Dragonsfall, do people take up a Craft to have something to do those long winter days?

The Crafts:

Dragonhealers are exceedingly popular. This is likely because you can't go past Apprentice rank without Impressing, which is going to skew these numbers.

Harpers are close behind! Is it because it's a popular choice for weyrbred kids to pick up while waiting for their dragon? Is it because Harper skills and practices are very people-oriented, which implies a lot of empathy, which is something dragonets look for?

Maybe the empathy explanation helps explain why Healers are so popular, too. And the Tannercraft knowledge comes in handy for making straps...

(BTW, if there's anything else you'd like us to chart up, please ask!)

Those poor browns and blues at Dolphin Cove. I'll have to show them some love just as soon as I'm able.

Maybe I shouldn't have killed off my DCW Brown. Bad me.

Yeah, DCW is definitely Bronze heavy as far as proportions go.

DCW is bronze heavy and too short on browns and blues. So if you were considering a male non-bronzerider, maybe you should consider him at DCW! (And then put him in Torrent Wing for guaranteed coposts from your wingleadership team!)

I have brown and blue on DCW! ( I also have a bronze and several greens.(

L'exan is one of FIVE blueriders at DCW?

....

^<_<^ Maybe I shouldn't deactivate him after all.

lol I know what you mean Leigh! This is one of the reasons I adopted T'kala at DCW, so that there would be active bluerider there.

This is so interesting, and will definitely factor into my decision-making the next time I make a dragonriding persona.

Ugh, I love demographic stuff like this. #nerd

Here are two histograms for age distribution by location:

(https://www.triadweyrs.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.ibb.co%2FmhkbSw%2Fdcw_age_distribution.jpg&hash=66e21b9ffbdf866a668b7114425c1a5dc4eef813)

Sooo basically that chart meaaannss...

Ages
15-24.17
24.17-33.33
33.33-42.50
42.50-51.67
51.67-60.83
60.83-70.00

- # of Personas
25
5
5
4
4
1

So as you can see from the histogram of DCW you can see that the majority of dragonriders there are young, with 25 in the 15 - 25 range and 19 in the 25-70 range.

(https://www.triadweyrs.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage.ibb.co%2FfXLnZb%2Fdfw_age_distribution.jpg&hash=20ef5f5f51bc34eafa2d45742dd4f55a9c643749)

Ages
10 - 16.43
16.43 - 22.86
22.86 - 29.29
29.29 - 35.71
35.71-42.14
42.14-48.57
48.57-55.00

- # of Personas
4
23
11
6
10
8
1

So the ages at Dragonsfall are a little more even with 23 dragonriders in the 16-25 age range, and 19 dragonriders in the 35-55 age range.

I always wondered what the Thread attrition rate was. How many dragonriders fall per Threadfall, on average? How often are dragons keening? If the rate is relatively high, then it would actually make sense that the average age of dragonriders is low, especially given that its been about a generation since dragons started laying large clutches.

Good point :) And now being in the 9th Turn of the Pass would those dying in threadfall have dropped off in the face of them gaining experience/changing flight patterns and wing formations to better fight Thread? Is 9 Turns long enough for that kind of learning curve? I don't know :)
