So yesterday, a friend based in Helsinki (not Paula) posted a list of literal translations of Finnish words. So I learned that dragon
(lohikäärme) actually means salmon snake.
Who else is imagining a big pink dragon that can toast it's own fish????
That is the most fantastic thing I've heard all day!
I think the snake part made me imagine it as a chinese pink dragon!!
Mmm... salmon. I like the idea of a dragon as a salmon snake. And definitely a pink one because of all the salmon it eats. Thanks for sharing!
I believe it originally refered to seaserpent....
Here is another: old fashioned name for lion is jalopeura, literally translates to nobledeer.
