Yeah, I am such a green thumb...not. I tried growing tomatoes this year, with sad results. something turned all the leaves brown-spotted and shivelled So, does anybody know what to do with bowl full of raw tomatoes? I've heard they can be made to preserve of some sort. Does anybody here have good receipe?
Eeep, poor plant! Unfortunately I have no ideas but I hope someone else does.
Look for a gazpacho recipe; that should work. :-)
Yes, google has saved from many troubles.
My mom used to grow tomatoes so we always had fresh ones coming out of our ears. Some yummy things she used to make are:
Fried Green Tomatos: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/fried-green-tomatoes-buttermilk-feta-dressing
Tomato Sandwiches - http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/open-faced-tomato-sandwiches-creamy-cucumber-spread
Lasagne with fresh tomato sauce (you can get a recipe on the internet for your kind of tomato.
Tomato Soup - http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/cream-of-fresh-tomato-soup-recipe.html
My personal favorite would be the soup. If they're going to go bad quick cook it all down and then freeze part of the soup for later.
Here in the Southern USA we can tomatoes--- there's several different recipes and ways to do it so I've just given this link:

Tomato plants are usually pretty hardy, but they do need to be kept dusted because insects find them delicious too! :)
So...back in the day every summer we went to Granny Hancock's to can tomatoes. It was a family affair with an assembly line. Some picked, some peeled, some cut, some boiled, some jarred, some lidded, etc etc. Anyway, yeah canning is fun. And when you mess up, you get tomato sandwich. Mine weren't as fancy as yours, Suz. It was two pieces of bread, mayonnaise, and the messed up tomato slices. Good times.
If you want to can them, but not straight tomatoes, you can do salsa. We do it alot here, sometimes with jalapenos mixed in. Or tomato sauce to be used later for spaghetti or lasagna or whatever. But yeah, there are several things that can cause it not to do right. Caterpillars, blight, fungus, etc.
For green tomatoes, I make green tomato chutney. It's delish as a side and also in grilled cheese sammiches. Easy canning too - you can use the boiled water method instead of a pressure cooker.
One plant...ha! Try having about a thousand of the little buggers (this being my main reason for a long period from you guys). It's a bit late, but green tomato chutney is amazing. :)
