Title: Canon Reminder
Post by: Canon Dragon on January 13, 2016, 10:22:58 AM
Hello All!

It's time once again to post a reminder about our rules regarding strict canon (http://triadweyrs.org/faq.php?fq_id=692) and the penalties (http://triadweyrs.org/faq.php?fq_id=706)for violating them.

Please make sure you've reviewed these rules (http://triadweyrs.org/faq.php?fq_id=692) and bookmark them for future reference.

While we've recently had some posts go to the list with violations we will be allowing the writers to revise them to comply with the rules. We hope you can understand and avoid any potential flaming injuries from the Canon Dragon.

Thanks!

I have to admit, I'm a bit frustrated.  I have seen canon broken time and time again here and nothing is done about it.  Just recently there was something that would have violated the way Weyrs work but that wasn't corrected at all.  Another instance involved dragons themselves in the last year or two, but those weren't addressed either.  If there are consequences, why are they not being enforced?

Is there a complete list of Things Not Allowed as well? Canon Dragon only refers to a short one.

Canon is such a complex thing and so often confused by Anne and by fanon and the canon interpretation of each club. Eg- you guys allow 'mom' but no stand-ins. It's difficult to keep everything straight, especially for a noob.

While I understand your frustration here. try to remember that a 'canon' violation as outlined in the rules was corrected recently based upon those rules linked on the page above.

Those rules don't state anything about how a Weyr is 'supposed' to operate. We understand and appreciate your opinion and you should receive an email from the council in reply to your concerns soon.  Please understand that it required discussion and thoughtful consideration.

Please note. Canon Violation consequences are handled privately between the council and the offender as outlined in the club rules. There is no public flogging here.

We love you guys and want to maintain fun for everyone. Doesn't that make sense??

That one posted above is pretty much the 'do not do' list.

If you have a question about a specific scenario, please feel free to pm the council.

Maybe that would be a good FAQ? Like how a Weyr generally operates, who is in charge followed by the chain of command in the event of emergencies? Like if the Weyrwoman and WW2nd are both incapacitated then who is in charge of the Queen's Wing? Do we go on the assumption that the Weyr has "other" goldriders? Etc etc.

Yes Heather, that would be a very good FAQ!

We have another one in the works on duties that was submitted by another member that may even address some of this but it isn't finished with review.  Perhaps after it's published we can revisit your idea. I'm sure we'd love to see a draft at the very least.

Considering how the Weyr is run has been seen in the books, I don't think it's an opinion but information generated on descriptions from the books.

As for the other canon issues, I know they were not addressed because they continued to occur time and time again.  I don't think anything should be public, but when I see issues repeated, then it says to me they were never addressed in the first place.

I definitely want everyone to have fun, but I think if the club is going to remain a strict canon, then it should strict canon and that canon enforced all the time, which I have yet to see. :-/  Thus that is the source of my frustration, particularly since some of the canon problems have been specifically with dragons and that really bugs me.  Of all the things that should be strictly enforced, it should be the canon on the dragons.  Does that make sense?

Well, tell you what. Since I have no idea what you're talking about perhaps you can send an email to the council with specifics?

I agree with Becki.

Mistakes happen, we are all human here.

Exactly. We can't fix our mistakes if we don't get told what they are. Even if it hurts, I, at least, need to hear it.

The mistakes that prompted this post have been discussed with the parties involved. So if you haven't been contacted by the council.  Don't worry!
