Title: We're a prolific bunch!
Post by: Avery on July 17, 2014, 10:32:00 AM
Wow, we're on fire! According to the archives (http://triadweyrs.org/pipermail/triad_triadweyrs.org/), June had 138 posts to the list. So far, July has already hit 130, and we're not done with the month yet. Talk about a pretty impressive amount of writing!

Let's all try for one hundred fifty posts this month. Just for the hell of it.

Should we raise the bar, then? Or just barrel on as we are? Barreling is fun.

We could each guess a number and see who is closest at the end of the month. ;)  I would choose 172.

Do we have the archives for the 2010 - 2013?  Were copies saved?
Title: Re: We're a prolific bunch!
Post by: Suzee on July 20, 2014, 10:39:06 AM
Copies were saved but they can't be migrated. However. I have kept pages for the last few years with the average marks earned by month, writer activity wise.

You can find links to them here: http://triadweyrs.org/faq.php?fq_id=806 (http://triadweyrs.org/faq.php?fq_id=806)

I suppose I could pull similar data from the database for post count. :)

What a pity they can't be migrated.  I did some stats ages ago based on the archives, though I think for the writer stats I just counted all the posts on the website:

So what was our final count for July?
Title: Re: We're a prolific bunch!
Post by: Jane on August 01, 2014, 02:21:57 PM
It was a mighty 264 posts!  DCW took out the Most Postiest Weyr title with 87 posts; Amber Hills was Most Postiest Hold with 23 posts; the Dolphin Hall beat the other Halls with 9 posts; and among the SWE and minor holds the winner was GVh with 16 posts.

Click on the graph to see the whole thing without the funny scroll bars.

[attachment=0:12tl4h4h]triad-totalposts.jpg[/attachment:12tl4h4h]

The graphy thingie has a slightly different total (267) because of the way I record the posts in my database ... by location but some posts have more than one location so appear twice.

OMG! Graphs! *nerds out! That's really interesting stuff!

I knew the Weyrs out-posted the Holds, but it's interesting that they get out-posted by that much. :P And I did have a sense that DCW was really, really active of late... interesting.

I have data for posting by location for 2006 - 2009 and now also 2012 - 2014 and the basic rule is that the quietest Weyr is busier than the busiest Hold and the quietest Hold is busier than the busiest Hall.

 :geek:

I am planning to join my two data sets (when I have a moment) by adding in 2010 and 2011.

You're gonna do this every month? I am fascinated to see it all charted out like this.

Other things I've wanted to see if stuff like "how many crafters do we have of each craft"? Or "what is our breakdown of riders by color"? I love this sort of stuff.
Title: Re: We're a prolific bunch!
Post by: Suzee on August 13, 2014, 10:02:28 AM
Actually some of that stuff can be pulled out of the database and then run through different programs to produce reports.  I've thought about doing this in the past like Jane is doing.

When I saw how much interest there was in this topic, I actually pulled a report of all posts from the website the other day and am in the process of analyzing the information based upon Club dates rather than realtime dates.  Pretty interesting info. I'll post something here once I have it available.

Ha ha ha!  There's always the webbie with the high-tech method.  Me, I just go to each page of the website and count-and-scroll-and-count-and-scroll!  (Little fib there ... for the big pages I copy and paste into Word and search for 'writers:' to get the total posts.)

Highest number of posts by a writer in July = 108.

If Suzee tells me what she can't get from the database I can do it by hand.

Apart from sheer geekishness I do this because I have a cat who likes to sleep in my arms, leaving only one hand free.  With one hand I can gather up all this data but can't really do anything much else.  So, all thanks to Ragdoll Sam (that's him as my userpic).

I found these stats from 2003:

QuoteStats as of 26th November 2003

    At present we have 45 members and 421 personas in the club, of which 101 are adoptable. That's an average of 7.11 personas per member.

    205 of those personas (48.69%) are female and 216 of those personas (51.31%) are male.

    156 (37.05%) are dragonriders.
    Colour percentages: 4.49% gold, 11.54% bronze, 17.31% brown, 19.87% blue, 46.79% green.

    140 (33.25%) are working crafters (i.e. crafters but not dragonriders).

    155 (36.82%) are neither crafters nor dragonriders.

    307 (72.92%) are 20 Turns or older.

Is this the sort of thing you're thinking of / remembering, Avery?  They certainly look like they popped off a database somewhere.

Yep, that's exactly the kind of thing I want one day! :) I might do it by hand if work ever calms down. I'm just curious what the most popular Craft that doesn't have a Crafthall is, or whether we have more blue riders than brown, etc.

Forum RPGs generally have what Avery is looking for. They call it a "census".

Examples:

Category | Male | Female | Totals
Greenrider | 13  | 34        | 47
Candidates | 22 | 27.        | 49
Harpers.     | 23 | 28

Etc :)

Ohh.  I especially like the one where it breaks down greenriders by gender ... though any sort of statistics / census appeals to me.  (Not a surprise by now, I suppose.)

The population data is interesting... I'm especially intreagued by the fact that our male/female split is statistically pretty close to real world populations, as is our dragon population by colour (theoretically?)

I'd love to know the mean/median ages too - we're heavilly skewed young, but how young? (for comparison's sake, our city report says that we're skewed younger and the average age is 32).

I am thinking that because of Thread and the fact that Pern is an agrarian society, it makes sense that the population is skewed to the younger. People work to hard and/or are put on harms way too often to make to old age.

Ohh, graphs!

gold = 9
bronze = 32
brown = 21
blue = 32
green = 54 (37 female riders)

I'm a bit surprised how popular blue is and how comparatively lean we are on browns.  Does Triad work to a particular 'ideal' colour ratio?

Thanks, Suzee.

I'd like to assume that the big 'bulge' in the 10-20 ages is all 13 Turn old apprentices (of which I contribute one) but I have the feeling it's teens / weyrlings / personas of Impressionable age.

Do those figures come out in 10 Turn groups, Suzee, or can you access them for every age?  I'd like to graph them in individual ages if you can email me that data.

This is so much fun!

I think we should keep in mind that while the colour percentages are skewed in the wrong direction for what they _should_ be on Pern, we're focusing on playable characters rather than the entire population.  ;-)

Quote from: "Amanda N"I think we should keep in mind that while the colour percentages are skewed in the wrong direction for what they _should_ be on Pern, we're focusing on playable characters rather than the entire population.  ;-)

I don't see that as much with dragonriders - with their freedom of movement and association and Triad's disinclination to put out working rosters for them so they do seem to be having endless free time only ever disturbed for the purposes of mating flights ... Why would a bronzerider be more playable than a brownrider?  When you get the blueriders I can see that the relationship options can then be drawn from a wider pool of characters (and writers) so they might have an advantage over brownrider when choosing a dragon colour.

However, in a Hall situation there are rosters and schedule and, for instance, the Harper Hall harper apprentices have such long days and so little free time that I think they'd be quite difficult to write for so a journeyman would give a better option.  I would expect journeymen and masters to be over-represented in Halls.

It's  been tried in past, Jane, creating schedules and duty-rosters for wings and wingriders...people just ignored it so it was dropped.  Characters were still lounging around with "endless freetime" when they should have been sweep riding or on watchduty.
