Judging from the sidebar, there are a few Jim Butcher fans here. :) I'm always on the lookout for good books... and I deduce that we're all readers, since, y'know, we're in a Pern PbEM. So -- what are you reading? What are your fav books right now? And what are you looking forward to reading?
I love Jim Butcher! Now that I've read Skin Game, its another long wait for the next book. •sigh•
umm someone gave me a whole box of paranormal romance books...amongst other things. So...I've been reading JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Then I plan to read Sherrilyn Kenyon's Styxx from her Dark Hunter series.
Yesh..... then maybe Chelle will start on the other piles she has around the house so she can get the books out from under her bed. Oh and when I have enough credit card rewards I'm getting a free copy of Written In My Own Heart's Blood by Diana Gabaldon from the Outlander series.
I read a lot of manga. I also enjoy Wendy and Richard Pini ("ElfQuest"), Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant ("InCryptid", the "Newsflesh" trilogy), Tara K. Harper (the "Wolfwalker" series), Alan Dean Foster, (the "Flinx and Pip" novels, the "Spellsinger" series), and possibly some others I can't think of right now.

Emma - my husband is a HUGE Terry Pratchett fan, and I just downloaded The Long War for him. I'm thinking of starting the series - he makes it sound super interesting.
Leigh - I read 'Feed' last summer and LOVED it. I haven't read the rest of the Newsflesh trilogy yet, but all I hear are good things. :)
Right now I'm reading a novella called 'Wakulla Springs' I got for free - it's shortlisted for some TOR specfic award. So far it's all movie monsters. In my TBR pile I have two nonfiction books, one about plants and booze (The Drunken Botanist by Amy Steward) and one about urban design and happiness, because I am a giant nerd.
The last fiction book I read (and LOVED btw) is Claire DeWitt and the Bohemian Highway. Its a mystery that relies on a crazy PI who relies on mystical signs and coincidence. Beautifully written! And the last book that made me bawl like a baby was a YA fantasy novel called 'Plain Kate'. I cried on the bus. I NEVER cry.

I'm working on a YA named Graceling while I have downtime at work. I'm rereading Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series in ecopy. And I have a few 2014-released Star Trek novels in a queue for when these are done.

Inheritance trilogy by Christopher Paolini-read it since it was close to Anne's books but it pales
Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer-Mom bought them for me

I LOVE books. I use my tablet more and more as an e-reader because I travel so much and its great for plane rides and hotels.
I like it all - historical fiction, fantasy and sci fi, fiction, some "horror like Anne Rice, paranormal series (they can be read in a day but do keep you entertained).

I read a TONNE of Piers Anthony when I was about 10-12. I think I read every single Xanth book out at the time, and then in an unsurprising twist became pretty decent at punning. Now I'm a really omnivorous reader. I read fantasy, some scifi, YA, romance, mystery, nonfiction, mainstream fic - if its good, I'll give it a go. :)
Avery - let me know what you think of Graceling! I loved it. :) It broke my friend, she ended up bawling somewhere public because of it.
I just gave up on Wakulla Springs because me ereader isn't charged (:P) and am now rereading Boneshaker by Cherie Priest. If you haven't read her Clockwork Century novels, I'd reccomend them!
I used to read a lot more series, but I find that I get impatient with them a lot now. Some fav BOOKS of mine, however:
When Demons Walk by Patricia Briggs is easy fantasy, and I read this probably once a year.
Perdido Street Station by Chine Meville - OMGWTFawesome! It's really dense and can be difficult to stomach, but it blew my mind.
War for the Oaks by Emma Bull - This is an old, old friend of mine, about an 80s rock band and faeries.
Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino - 'the book that launched 1000 art projects' - makes me want to travel & is great light reading for when you have, like, 2 mins at a time to kill.
Zoo City by Lauren Beukes - lady has a sloth on her back! A sloth!! <3

Yvonne, I'm not so much of a Pratchett fan, and more of a Stephen Baxter fan, I'd check out some of his stuff, Flood and Ark are good ones, as are the NASA trilogy and the Time Odyssey books
A few months ago I discovered John Carter of Mars. LOOOOOVE! I'm also a Dresden fan, though I'm a book behind. I love Michael Moorcock's Elric stories.
I'm currently reading the newest Darkest London book by Kristen Callihan. I have an ARC of her upcoming book that she gave to me at RT in New Orleans. :)

Oy, don't get me started. The list of books I've read is too long to be listed. I've read Lord of the Rings in two languages...almost in three but I got bored with the swedish translation.

Currently I'm reading Sookie Stackhouse book nr 10 "Dead in the Family," and the next is waiting for it's turn. I have Anne Rice's "The Mummy" in my bag for train reading (paperback).
So, I usually read sci-fi, fantasy, urban fantasy, some horror, historical romances (I want to get my hands to the Red Queen -book), some thrillers and detective stories (Lee Child anyone? I also love Clive Cussler (Dirk Pitt :love1: )
I've read Patricia Briggs' urban fantasy - mostly the Mercy Thompson series, although I'm behind. I get bored with series. Even good ones. *g* The Mercy books are great, though. Paula, have you read the Kitty books by Carrie Vaughn? Also great!
Becki - I have also read the Darkest London books. I loved the first one, was ok with the second, and am having trouble getting into the third book. I think that's just my book ADD though - they're really good!

So... has anyone read Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach books? I just finished the first 2 and am anxiously awaiting the third in September. Great stuff. Very weird.
If they're that weird, I can see why you'd be nervous about the next one.
They're about things that are too big to think about and drive you some crazy, and I'm not 100 sure that humanity will survive! But very interesting, and excellent writing. :)
