For the 'post with/as a newbie' points, how long are you considred a newbie? Is it just till you get off mentorship or is it a certain number of posts or what? Also, if two 'newbies' post together do they get the points twice? Say I post with Bob, who's new too. Do I get 10 points (5 for me being a newbie and 5 for him being one)?
Oh and what if a post starts out at one location and then moves to another? Like say half the story takes place at a Weyr, then the second half at a Hold. Does the post earn 1 point for being a Weyr post, 2 points for being a Hold post or 3 points for being both? What if the Hold was a bonus location?
Also, how long is polite to wait to gently poke someone about posts and marks? I very much do not want to be rude or demanding cause, trust me, I know how life can get busy. But, what is considered a significant amount of time to wait on posts and points being recorded on the site? A month? Two? Who would I contact at that point? The area manager or the timeliner? Also, if there's a discrepancy between the number of points I think I have and the number recorded, who do I ask about it?
I should have named this topic 'Yet More Member Awards Questions (YMMAQ)' lol. And also, sorry if I seem point-obsessed. I know the fun is in the writing. But there's stuff in that list I want! lol
Ok let's see if I can answer some of this for you. The general rule of thumb with the majority of your questions is you get the highest available score for something but only once. It doesn't 'double up.'
- With/As a newbie - I think but could be wrong that this is for 3 months from joining the site. You would not get double marks for posting with Bob, but both you and Bob will get the marks for posting (1 for a Weyr, or 2 for a Hold/Hall) Plus (5 for Posting with/as a newbie) These marks are automagically calculated by our website when the posts are 'timelined*.'
- If a post starts out at one location and ends at another, you get the highest value as above. But they don't add together. Start or end at a Hall/Hold you'll get 2 marks for posting when it's Timelined*.
- Poking about marks - The Area Manager is the timeliner for that area. We all try and keep track of one another's schedules so if somone is LOA the other two will try and pick up the slack. Normally, this will be done by monthend. Trust me its just easier for us to do it in the same month it was sent to the list. Reminder: Things sent to the list late will not be timelined, so make sure you get them in before the Pern month closes. (There is some forgiveness of this rule if one or more of the posters (or your mentor) had declared LOA that caused the post to be late.
- If there are discrepancies, contact the area manager first so they can document the error that caused it. They can't 'fix' the issue's with the marks because the marks are assigned by the site automagically. However, the Council member overseeing this area can add or subtract marks when errors occur. (Currently this position is held by Clancey)
- Now to answer a question you _didn't_ ask. If you post at a bonus location, you get marks for posting there PLUS the marks for posting at a bonus location.
- When it comes time for Crayons again. She'll also post those awards and marks,
- Any of them that you spend will be manually subtracted in the same manner.
I hope that answers all of it. Any of the others can feel free to correct me if I've misstated anything here.

Timelined - One of the area managers copies the post from the list to the site. Normally this happens over time. Personally, I try to do timelining every weekend or at least by the end of the month. I am responsible for DFW/AHH/AHH-VH
So as far as timelining goes, I should worry towards the end of the month if a story I sent to the list that month hasn't been uploaded yet and start inquiring with the area manager in question?

Actually, I'd wait until after the end of the month. When we timeline we pick the date it was sent to the list and the Pern date, so even several months later you could still get credit for the right timing. You just have to make sure you send it to the _list_ in the right month.

So right now we're sending in m8. If you were to send in m7 it probably wouldn't get timelined unless there were extenuating circumstances. That's why you'll see a flood of posts at the end of July as everyone finishes up m8. Sometimes things are busy and there might be a backlog but the three of us try to keep that to a minimum.
Now, if you see that something was missed then by all means contact the Area Manager.
Thanks Suzee! :sunny:
Yeah what Suzee said up there-generally I stay caught up with my area so if something is not there in a few days or so-I've missed it. I get digests and save them and then go through and add the posts I need to every so many days.
I have another question, figured I'd stick it here. :D
When I get off mentorship, and can have more than three characters, if I fill an empty L2 or L3 spot for 20 points at a bonus location, do I get the 10 points for creating a character too? For a total of 30 points for making that character?
Oh, and on a dissimilar but slightly related note, what ARE the rank limits for L4? I've seen the rank limits for L1 (2) and L2 (2) and L3 (4) but I can't find how many L4s you can have. There's a thing you can buy an L4 outside rank limits, so I'm assuming there must be a limit. It's something I'd want to know before considering buying one because if it's 4 then I'd want to wait till I had 4 before spending the marks on it.
:drunken:
I filled an empty rank at a bonus location and only received the marks for filling that rank. It's another case of-get the bigger marks sort of thing.
Generally with L4s, there aren't that many of them actually played and to get one you usually have to spend marks or be an active player that's been around. In most cases, you would only be allowed a few of them simply by the nature of that type of character. IE: a goldrider or retired goldrider you can only have one of; a HAD you can only have one of; a Master you can only have one of (unless you're Paula lol)
I'm pretty sure I recall Eimi saying rank limits for level 4s were the same as level 3s. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
