Title: Something New I Learned from the DLGP
Post by: Eimi on May 24, 2009, 03:50:38 PM
I don't eat beef much.  I love it, I just don't usually cook with it.  But I was walking through my supermarket and I saw some Washington Beef on sale and I thought I needed to support my home state's beef industry that had been hurting when Japan put a ban against American meat after the madcow incident.  So I was trying to think of what I could do with it when I remembered...  I got my very own bright shiny copy of the Dragonlover's Guide to Pern not too long ago and flipping through the pages, I found on pg. 74 (of the second edition) a recipe for "Hearty Herdbeast Stew".  I had never tried to make a beef stew, and I thought that it was about time I learned how to make one!  I have to say, it turned out deliciously well!  I wish I had more galic to throw in, and I also threw in some other spices as well, like sage and thyme because I love both, but over all, easy, delicious and utterly satisfied my beef craving!  I think I will have to make it again, but this time go down to the breadshop down the way and buy some little round loaves to make cannon balls XD

Has anyone else tried any of the recipies in the DLGP?

I just might have to try that. I haven't looked at my DLGP in awhile, but I always like to try new recipes.

It sounds good.

I haven't yet.  One of these days I want to try and make a bubbly pie!

My mother actually made a recipe for "klah" that is really tasty!  She used to make some every Christmas for us.  It's basically a cinnamon mocha that tastes ooooooooooooooh so good.  Man, now I want to make some...

If only I liked the taste of coffee...

Oh well, at least I like the smell. :)

I'm with you on that one Amanda. I love the smell of coffee, but cannot stand the taste of it.

I'd like to try the bubbly pies myself.

I'm making a pork roast in my crock pot for dinner tomorrow. I need to use it more often as it would save me time in having to cook when I get home.

Ah, well, the stew was pretty hard to ruin unless you burned the bottom somehow ;)  It was pretty good!
