Title: Their Coming to Get You Eimi........
Post by: Eimi on April 28, 2008, 06:57:44 AM
I know I've told stories of the spiders here before, but tonight I received an omen from one of them...

You see, it seems to go in cycles.  Every two years, someone finds a huntsmen in my apartment.  You find them in front of my door every once in a while right before a typhoon, but usually inside my apartment is safe.  Except once every two years.  My predecessor warned me of the pattern.  She had found one the year before I came, and, sure enough, two years later, I found one in my closet.  Well, tonight when I came home from the video store, there was one waiting for me outside my door.  Now, its only April, so its still a baby (ie. it can still fit in my palm rather than across my entire hand).

If this had been a few years ago, trust me, I would have rather have moved than walk passed that thing.  But I have calmed somewhat in these last few years (seeing spiders larger than your face helps you not sweat the small stuff quite as much) and I calmly borrowed a broom from my neighbor and thought I'd shoo it away from my door and out into the street.  But this little guy had other plans.  As I swept at him with my mop he disappeared into a tiny crack between my door and what I can only assume is my inner wall.  And the bugger wouldn't come out...  So he's in there somewhere...  In my walls...

And that was when it hit me - the last huntsmen I found in my apartment was exactly two years ago to the month.  My two years are up.  I've been served my fair warning...

The Huntsmen are coming...

OMG. IN THE WALLS.

How terribly creepy. Can you hear their hairy legs brushing against the wall studs at night? What about the pitter-patter of eight little feet on the plaster, or the gnashing of mandibles as they stare at you from the cracks around the windows and baseboards as you sleep...?

I hate you with a burning passion.

But I love you again because you sent out all the stuff I keep forgetting to send out.

Am I really so fickle?  Man, I'm shallow...

This is exactly why I pay $100 every 3 months to have my house and yard sprayed down with poison... I hate spiders.

I don't mind spiders. It's the wasps that freak me out.

I don't mind wasps, I don't mind moths, I'm fine with cockroaches, gekos, poisonous centipedes, giant worms, snakes, mice, rats...  It's just spiders for me.  It's the idea of eight legs, eight eyes, and the way they scurry.  If they're on a web, I can get up close to them (as long as the web is at eye-level and not above me) because they usually stay on it and they have their little space and I have mine, but I really hate the ones that scurry up walls and along the ground.  They can be ANYWHERE... like in my walls...

Because you're actually fascinated by spiders and would secretly like to love them?

Spiders are our friends!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

That little bastard came out of his crack!  I opened my door tonight and the little bugger ran straight across my path.  I quickly grabbed a broom and ran the sucker off into the street!

So now the question is... Am I the champion?  Or is the game afoot?  (if it afoot, I have to say I'm at a slight disadvantage since it has four times as many feet as me...)

You realize he's just going to retaliate now, you didn't scare him away, you just bruised his ego.  He's going to come right back and get you.  You should have killed it while you had the chance...

I know... He's probably out there plotting how he's going to sneak into my apartment after he's hit his final growth spurt and can cover my face and smother me in my sleep...

I knew it!  I knew it!  One of those bastards got into my apartment!  Of course it was still a baby, but any spider with eyes large enough to refract light has got to die!  Next time I see it, it's dead.  Of course, the next time I see it it will probably be big enough to smother me in my sleep :sad5:  And it's hiding under my fridge...

Might I recommend a VERY large broom?

And then RUN.

And then MOVE. :)

Well, if you pause this video (http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=Da4kL30fRO0&feature=related) on the first picture of a real spider (the brown one) you can see exactly what this spider will look like when it grows up :P

Bree, it's just a cartoon spider.  Not a real one.  It's safe. :)

I don't mind spiders.  Unless they're poisonous, they just get put back outside. :-D

It's Incy Wincy, and with that little baseball cap on he's kind of cute.

I conducted a poll on this at my old job -- we were evenly split between "Itsy-Bitsy Spider" and "Eensie-Weensie Spider". I am of the "Itsy-Bitsy" school.

Except that I HATE THAT SONG.  *cries*

One of my first grader students loves to sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider song. We'll be walking down the hall and he'll suddenly say "Ready sing Itsy Spider song." or Twinkle Twinkle. Those are his two favorite songs.

As for real spiders, as long as they are up in the corners of my ceiling they can stay there. If I see them elsewhere they are gone. My biggest problem is getting rid of the roaches. We've bug bombed twice now and they just won't go away. I may have to call in an exterminator now.
