So what do you guys do for exercise?
Funny you should start talking about that.
Me, I walk a ton. I walk from work, I walk to the store, I walk to the mall, I walk walk walk walk every where.
Unfortunately it's not letting me lose the weight because of how my body is built, so I have to up the exercises to see the results.
This and that. I walk when I have time, and I'm signing up for a bicycle share program this summer so I can bike to work and not worry about my wheels getting stolen downtown. And I rock climb.
I take the cat for a walk morning and night.

How do you walk a cat? I tried doing that, and it was more like I was dragging them, so I had to carry them.

Dogs walk where their people go.
People walk where their cats would like to go, or stand still if the cat just wants to sit under this handy shrub and sniff the early evening air.
I take a book with me!
Of course, different cats react differently to leashes. It helps if you get them used to it early on. :)

Sam's cool with his harness (wears it 14 hours a day) and great with his lead, he just knows who's boss.
And it ain't me.
Cats are always the boss, even on a leash!
I walk the hills in my neighborhood, walk the hilly college campus, and I exercise to The Firm. I'm hoping to drop a couple pant sizes by July...we'll see how it goes :)
I walk a lot, but I've also been going to gym past half a year or so. I'm actually having results, 4 cm off from my waist. Unfortunately, I also got few centimeters off from my breasts...
:naka:
I just walk to work. If I want to lose weight I stop eating so much chocolate for a while. I figure that walking for an hour each day is probably enough exercise, especially combined with occasional running around in the woods hitting people with fake swords.
I'm better at saying "I'm going to start exercising" than actually doing it.
However, mostly I walk at work: up and down the hallways, sitting on the floor, getting back up, dancing with children. That and I use steps -- 3 flights to my apartment, something that had been lacking from my life while back in PA.
And as of yesterday I sort of walk to work: Park at the Metro station, walk in from the far parking lot to the train, up and down stairs, then two blocks to the building where I'm working, repeat the entire process to return home.
Well, I just went to the gym yesterday for the first time in over a month. Ideally, I would go 3 times a week. Practically the only machine I use there is the eliptical trainer. It's great. I turn on motivating music, get on the machine, and go.
Back in the states I shot hoops, played raquetball and did weight training. Here in Japan I walk, go to the batting cage, and occassionally do weight training (I actually havent' been in the gym for a long time due to health issues. I'm about ready to go back) I also do stretching sometimes.
At home I do Bike riding, walking, and playing with the kids. 3-4 times a week when I'm at work I do about 30 min of eliptical and about 15 min of weights. I really need to do more weights, especially focusing on my arms, but I hate weight training and I'm lazy... :geek:
Today I added to my routine "escorting children to the playground." Our center is in a large office building with ground and first floor stores/services -- actually two buildings normally connected, but with construction cutting off some access. The park/playground is on the other side of the far building, which means that the children must now be taken down the elevator to the parking garage and then walked to the other side following a set of walkways. We need an extra person to escort the classes and their teachers to and fro and today the task fell to me. Back and forth, back and forth. Add to that moving furniture to rearrange one of the rooms for the new curriculum and my usual walk to and from the Metro station and I think I've done my exercise for the day.
It sure sounds like it Vix!
Any other runners here? :D
I used to run back in my academy days, but I got out of the habit and now it just about kills me when I have to chase somebody down. I should really start back I suppose, but I don't seem to have the opportunity at home cause I've always got the kids with me.
I don't like running. At all. :-p

Squee! More deputy sheriff stuff. It's just so American!

ROFL!!! What... doesn't anyone in New Zealand ever commit a crime? And then run from it? And jump fences? And try and hide in a dog house?
:grommit:

Well, perhaps they do and because I've never had a dog house I've missed out on knowing about it!
But the real point is that we only have police. The same old police force all over the country and the same guys respond to city or rural incidents.
It's the different-ness of the American system that intrigues me!
Ah yes. Just in my town alone we have Deputies (they cover the entire county) Police Officers (they cover the individual towns) and Troopers (they patrol the interstate and highway systems). Not to mention the KBI (Kansas Bureau of Investigations that handles alot of drug trafficing and internet crimes), ICE (Immigration issues), and DEA (Federal Drug guys). But we all work together and get along :)
It gets even more complicated where I live: we have city, county, and state police officers, security guards everywhere, transit police, FBI, air marshals, Secret Service. And much of our lives is on closed-circuit tv.
Gotta love the USA :D
I do not envy you Cali! Scary work!
All I'll say is that at least the police where I live don't have guns. That's the scary part, if you seem armed coppers, you know something is happening.
I won't even get into what a joke the cops over here are... And firefighters... I would NOT want to have to rely on Japanese firefighters.
Really? Why is that Eimi? Are they not trained well? I've actually heard some scary things about Japanese detention...
No. Actually they're trained a little too well. I sat and watched them go through a training exercise the other day. It took them 2 or 3 minutes just to get 3 guys into the perfect triangle formation so that they could run 3 steps, turn 90 degrees, run another four steps, turn back 180 (and these are military precision turns, not whirling around mind you), just to run back to their original position. Then they had to roll out the hoses at the perfect angle and at the exact length (coutning OUTLOUD each step as they ran - knees to chest, exactly uniform strides), turning and standing at attention until the next guy ran up with his hose, make the connection, yelled something, did another 90 degree turn, ran counting to the desired length the hose would eventually be at and took his place on the perfect triangle. Once they were all there they took another minute to adjust to make sure they were at the right angle to each other. Then one of the picked up the hose, and it took another 30 seconds to get his feet the desire distance apart (not an approximate, I swear to god I saw a ruler come out). Then the other two pull out an axe and a hook, and they all strike a pose. The fire chief then tells the hook guy that his pose is not quite correct as his hands are too far apart on the shaft and turns to the other to tell him the axe should be held at a steeper angle. Meanwhile, the imaginary building would have been a pile of charred rubble by now, and perhaps still even smouldering.
Yeah, I think I lost faith in Japanese firefighters right then...
But would that really occur with a real fire?
Btw...we need more posts together!
I am choking on my grapes, Eimi. :laughing6:
But please don't call the Japanese paramedics.
