Ahh, yes, my perennial forum topic - Marks and How to Spend Them. Though lately I need help on Marks and How to SAVE Them.
This is me:
(Smaug! Not the invisible little hobbit creature!)
Or it would be me if I could save a few more of the darn things - but I will be saving from now on. I've just spent almost all the marks I have to my name getting the last thing on my shopping list ticked off. Now I can go back to hoarding again.
Does anybody else use their marks? Or plan to use them when they are resting on a big enough pile?
Is there something else that we can't currently purchase with marks that you would like to be able to?
What about combining marks for a location?
I could combine with somebody to do something. Let me see ... I have about ... Yes. I have 11 marks available! :laughing5:
I'm spendingf mine slowly. It seemed to take forever to get to 2000 of the little beggars, but now, I have nothing to spend them on. I was going to apply for the beastie hall, but I want to make sure I have Causton well and truly working for me before I do anything more.
Though I haven't given up on the idea totally. And I have a few more NPC's to PC.
I am scouring to see if there're any needed persona that I can fill positions with, so may be once I have found one or two I'll need the marks, but until then, I'll just sit on my hoard.
I'm going to be hoarding up my marks for a couple of things. I don't know for certain but...well...we'll see. :) I may change my mind later. For now, I'll just hoard. :-D
I guess I'm hoarding mine -- don't know for what. . .
Quote from: "Vix"I guess I'm hoarding mine -- don't know for what. . .
In case a
good coposting friend needs lots of marks for a project she has in mind but hardly has any left of her own having heedlessly spent them all and the
very good coposting friend thinks that she could supply the idea and very-kind-Vix would put in nearly all the marks ... Huh?
That might be 'for what'!
Subtle Jane, very subtle. LOL
Do you think she had anyone in particular in mind?
*shakes head*
*says sarcastically*
Noooooo!
You also seem to have a big pile of marks and no urgent plans, Kaysea.
I now have 50 marks of my own to contribute, you know!
If I work hard and reply lots I could have 5000 by the end of the year. :geek:
*looks around and whistles innocently*
Who? Me?
Nah, I'm not really that wealthy, its a glitch in the system...
;)
(Went to check tally - over 3000!! wooo hoooo!!!)
Besides - according to your little tag over there <<<<<
you have over 1400 marks - so what you complainin'
'bout woman?
(said in her best Gary Coleman impersonation)
Quote from: "Kaysea"Besides - according to your little tag over there <<<<<
you have over 1400 marks - ...
You think I don't know my marks total down to the nearest 32nd of a mark? Huh? Huh?
Marks I have:
1459 (forums)
318 (web site)
____________
1777 (apparent total)
Less those spent and not yet noted on the web site:
800 (L3 requirements-free at Weyr)
425 (guaranteed Impression of a bronze)
500 (L4 requirements-free at Weyr)
____________
1725 (total spent)
So,
1777 -
1725 =
52Plus this reply =
55.
I now have 55 marks to contribute.Well done on earning over 3000!
What're you hoarding for/asking people to contribute to, Jane? *curious*
Quote from: "Avril"What're you hoarding for/asking people to contribute to, Jane? *curious*
That was my next question, Avril. :)
Well, I'm thinking of:
* opening a Hall at an existing Hold (for which I will need 2000 marks - easily achieved with two very good coposting friends), or
* I quite like the idea of a new PC Hold and Lord Holder (for which I will need 4000 marks - and that would be a little tougher on my two very good coposting friends), or
* perhaps a junior goldrider (for which I would need 5000 marks - and possibly the Council would quibble about joint ownership of one character so I might have to do that all myself).
You have very high aspirations Jane. LOL
What hall?
And
Which Hold did you plan on reopening? (I'm assuming re-opening since we still have all the unused ones on the map. ;) )
Quote from: "Kaysea"You have very high aspirations Jane. LOL
Not too surprised, surely? I always have plans!
Quote from: "Kaysea"What hall?
Weaver, perhaps? (Small snag with that, but we'll see.) Supports the riverboats, of course!
Quote from: "Kaysea"Which Hold did you plan on reopening? (I'm assuming re-opening since we still have all the unused ones on the map. ;) )
Eeeek! No! No! That's a thousand times worse than adopting a character! I do have a plan, but it has a snag, too. I am working on the snag ... but you would have to make the Beastcraft Hall as part of the 'snag reduction process'.
And creates a snag of its own, if I were to contribute to a Hold, I'd not have the 2000 needed to create the Hall. :o
But I'm sure your snag reduction process would solve that little incidental. (Can you hear the sarcasm dripping here? LOL)
As I said earlier, I have put the Hall off for a little while. I want Causton cemented well and truly before I start anything else on a grand scale.
And when you look at the 'interest' shown for the new beastie hall - most of those who professed to be interested have disappeared. :o
Quote from: "Kaysea"And creates a snag of its own, if I were to contribute to a Hold, I'd not have the 2000 needed to create the Hall.
Yes, your first 2000 for the Beastie Hall, the other 1000 for some very close coposting friend's project(s).
Quote from: "Kaysea"And when you look at the 'interest' shown for the new beastie hall - most of those who professed to be interested have disappeared.
People disappear all the time. It's very odd. I'm sure the Beastie Hall didn't
cause them to go!
Oh hun, you do make me laugh.
I love you! LOL
You know Jane, I'd be very glad to be one of those very good coposting friends. Though, I do hope you'll forgive me for hoarding my marks. :-D
Quote from: "Amanda N"You know Jane, I'd be very glad to be one of those very good coposting friends. Though, I do hope you'll forgive me for hoarding my marks. :-D
:skeptisch: I am wondering if I should make it a requirement of being
very good coposting friends that they should be willing to share marks with me.
I am, after all, more than willing to share all 69 of
my marks.
:laughing5:
The problem is, I want my marks for something else. *sniff* Please don't take them away from me!
Quote from: "Amanda N"The problem is, I want my marks for something else. *sniff* Please don't take them away from me!
And they're mounting up quite nicely there Amanda!
And Jane - you would definitely make a good dragon - I can just see you curling yourself around your marks, or being sneaky enough to appropriate more when you thought no one was looking. LOL
Quote from: "Amanda N"The problem is, I want my marks for something else. *sniff* Please don't take them away from me!
Don't want your marks if you've
cried all over them!
So, what is this thing you want the marks for? I don't think you've mentioned that!
Not telling. nope. Nope. Not gonna. mainly because I might change my mind to something else. We'll see. Yes, we shall see. Yes yes. :)
Quote from: "Amanda N"Not telling. nope. Nope. Not gonna. mainly because I might change my mind to something else. We'll see. Yes, we shall see. Yes yes. :)
Don't mention -- if you do, the idea goes the way of the Beast Hall and the Mason Hall with people disappearing.
Both of which, by the way, I offered to contribute both articles and marks to aid
very good coposting friends.
Hmmm. . . only 598 marks on the site. Did we stop earning for Crayons and Welcome Committee? If I'm going to hoard, I may have to start tracking them as Jane does. Then again, if I do that, I'd not have time to copost and continue to be a
very good coposting friend.
Quote from: "Vix"Hmmm. . . only 598 marks on the site. Did we stop earning for Crayons and Welcome Committee?
Crayons are good marks-spinners!
With your 598 + 2390 here ... that's 2988.
Practically, almost exactly 3000! Just like Kaysea.
See, we could have a Hold already!
1000 from Kaysea, 81 from me, and 2919 from you, Vix. :laughing5:

Two bits of good news:
* I only need 2913 of your marks now
* Until Kaysea makes the Beastie Hall (or similar) I've still got an insurmountable problem with the
Hold Creation Master Plan(TM).

Quote from: "Stasha"Now I thought that the 5000 marks were only needed if you already have a queenrider... but you don't have any listed on your character sheet...
I guess I just like the idea of buying things.
Though perhaps there's a discount in it if I can show I don't have another goldrider tucked away anywhere.
Good thought, Stasha!
Now, how does one get a gold rider in Triad? I saw that some were brought in while others (like Teseada) were voted on for a hatching. How is it decided who can have a gold, when and how? Do the marks matter? Or is it something else?
Well, I know in the past there have been gold eggs and then a writing contest was done and a vote taken by members.
I also know that if you want a gold, you can spend 5000 marks to get one here. That would take quite a while though.
I'm assuming how many people can have golds is determined by how many people already have them. :)
Quote from: "Amanda N"I also know that if you want a gold, you can spend 5000 marks to get one here. That would take quite a while though.
I've earned 5699 marks during the 17 months I've been here so it's do-able.
Lady, you are insane! But that's okay. :)
Doable...yes...but very difficult! I doubt I'll ever get that many! *G*
And really, if there are too many goldriders, what fun is that?
Quote from: "Vix"And really, if there are too many goldriders, what fun is that?
True, true.
And besides, every time I think about which would be better, green or gold, I find that greens are more desirable because there is less work, your dragon is not held back by a clutch, and you can be more inconspicuous (because lets face it, everyone knows who the goldriders are, they're like the famous people that are in the tabloids).
However, there is still something very tantalizing about playing a gold, and that maybe because not everyone can have a one. In character there is an assumed honor bestowed upon those who manage to Impress one, and it makes them uniquely special and sets apart from the rest of the dragonriders in the weyr, which can be a good or a bad thing.
Me? I want a silver dragon.
Muwahahahahahaha!

Now as far as marks go. Doesn't some one go around and remove the marks when we've spent them? Because I got Ch'lis, Enrad and Alasha flits, but I can't see where the marks were removed... Nor can I see where the marks for the crayons were added.
Here's a list of rewards for you: http://www.triadweyrs.org/list_rewards.php?mb_id=211 (http://www.triadweyrs.org/list_rewards.php?mb_id=211)

I think it's just that marks banking is running a little behind.
You would see marks being removed because they appear in red.
If you search for 'Forever' (an in Forever Requirements Free) on
my rewards page (http://www.triadweyrs.org/list_rewards.php?mb_id=126) you can see what they look like when they're removed.
Yeah, I don't have that. You're probably right Jane, it's just all behind... which means I have fifty less marks than I actually have, but I have marks from the crayon awards to make up for it :D Sweet!
Yeah, we're a little behind. Updating the marks was one of the things I was going to work on during the students spring vacation when I'm stuck at my desk all day with nothing to do... But then the internet went down... Hopefully it will come back before spring break is over :geek:

But I did read about a weyr that did do that. Infact they had a few different colors beyond the basics. It was just weird.

There are several fandom Weyrs that do that -- which marks one of the major differences between canon and non-canon play.
And who is AM approved too.
I asked first Jane! I get dibs!
Looks like I'd better get cracking. let's see...Maybe I could write out a harper class? Maybe work on a schedule for aprentice and journeymen harper still at the hall?
Of course lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of coposts...:-D

I think Anne and her minions have pretty much stopped trying to keep clubs to any rules but lots do still abide by the original requirements because they've chosen to.
I believe some of the very early Weyrs had silver dragons - with Anne's permission. I'll see if I can find a link.
Amanda - craft articles are the way to go! 25 marks a shot. For 10,000 marks you'll only need to do ... 400 ... before the end of the year. You still going to have time to post, dear?

There are a heap out there on the Triad sites via the Wayback Machine. Including some weaver ones, which I decided to leave alone 'cause I wanted to write my own, in case I ever have enough marks (and permission) to open the Hall.
Quote from: "Amanda N"Jane, you are nuts!
Well, I think I've found what Eimi was referring to!
And for those keeping up with the meteoric rise of my marks total, Eimi's dropped another whole bunch off for me on the website overnight (my night) and I now have

I think I am going to save my marks for something really big, but I don't know what. I'm only 50 away from a gold flit egg. A character that hears all dragons maybe? Parent of a PC is an NPC Holder perhaps? Guaranteed Impress of a bronze is tempting too...
Oh! I'm too indecisive!

I kind of almost want twins since Kurt only wants three children and I want four. If I have twins, I'll get my four. ;-)
Argh!
I just found out there are marks out there I wasn't counting!
Look!
QuoteMember rewards are available for filling empty Level 2 and Level 3 rank spots. Anyone who creates a persona for a Level 2 or 3 rank will receive 20 marks on the persona's approval and 5 marks/month for each month they meet their posting requirements for the next 6 months. That's 50 available marks total!
I knew about that - I got Ylisahn and R'haran under this scheme but for some reason I thought it was L3 and L4. But no!
L2 and

K'hetah's L2. He's met requirements in Dec, Jan, and Feb.

I thought about having kids, but I'm really beginning to doubt if kids are for me or not. I think I'll keep kids in the RPG world for now so I can put them away when I'm done, and not worry about them getting really sick or having something go wrong.
Well, not everyone out there is called to have children. Some are just called to have cats. :)

My heart would have melted. Maine Coons are awesome cats, and very unique. I've already decided that my next cat will be a maine coon.
They are gorgeous cats. I think the next cat I'd like to have will be an Ocicat or a ragdoll. We'll probably go through a rescue or perhaps get a retired cat. :)
Not getting a pet, it wouldn't be fair as my flat isn't big enough for a dog or cat and it is on the first floor (2nd to you in the US), plus it'd be left on it's own for up to 12 hours a day sometimes.
And as for fish... well they'd end up dead of kindness, that's what happened to the first and only lot I had.

Why so long? Oh, and a lot of cats don't care, they would just come and sit next to you at the end of the day. I had to do that with my own cats when I moved out on my own, and they adjusted. They just gave me lost of love and attention when I got home and fell asleep by be, one on each side.
When I moved into the city, my job became a 2hr commute away, so I was putting in about a 12hr day every time I went out, which was four times a week. But the girls survived just fine.
And small house psf, they did pretty good. As long as there are windows they do pretty good.
Not my cats. They are very much people cats. They like having people around a lot. :)

I also forgot to mention, my Dad and some of my cousins are highly allergic to pet fur. I like having visitors ;)
I heard they're trying to develope an non-allergenic breed of cats. I can't remember where I heard that though...
I have a pet duck :mg:

I have always wanted a pet duck, or ducks to feed. My husband says that I can have one if he can tape a plastic bag to its behind 'cause they're incredibly messy creatures!

Ah, goo reason not to get one then... but I'm allergic too so I shouldn't be talking :D

I know they created cats that glow in the dark. Pretty creepy.
Yeah, isn't that cool! I've seen pictures of those! Although I think some people are taking science a little too far... Do we really need glowing cats? How freaky would that be? You're just on the edge of sleep, you mind is a little groggy, you hear a small sound and open one eye... and suddenly this glowing hell-beast leaps out of the dark and onto your bed to latch onto you and pull you kicking and screaming into the depths! And just as your heart stops completely you realize, "Oh, wait, it was just the cat..."

That would be awesome!
Mostly, early in the morning, hell-beasts and cats are, in fact, the same item. Whether they glow or not means nothing to me at 4am.
Quote from: "Jane"See, we could have a Hold already!
1000 from Kaysea, 81 from me, and 2919 from you, Vix.
Breaking News!It's now:
500 from me, and 2500 from Vix.[/list]
Wheee! If I hadn't just got an idea for something else to buy I'd be well on my way.
Keep up all the chat posts.
Marks for jam. :laughing5:
Vix thinks she should start purchasing some reqs.-free characters to thwart Jane's plans.

You have 3263 marks right now. You would need 1800 to reqs-free your Master of Apprentices (L3 at a Hall) and Headwoman (L3 at a Hold) under this reward:
900 - Forever Reqs Free Level 3 Persona at a Hold/Hall.3263 - 1800 = 1463
Oh dear. I feel thwarted to the tune of 1037 marks!
Wanted: Another
very good coposting friend with marks to lend to make up the shortfall. :laughing5:
(Though I have 536 marks of my own, now.)
So question, or rather clarification:
Do the marks from the forums count to these rewards? Or is it only the marks that are listed back on the main Triad sight that count?

They all work the same. They get added together if you buy something big.
Yeah, we can transfer them back and forth.
Really?
*glances at tallying marks under avatar*
I'll remember that :D
Oooo, Stasha, what is it that you are planning?
Go on, tell us. Nobody's ever held me to any of my (sometimes far-fetched) plans just because I air them publicly.
Really? I'll hold you to them! :-D
Quote from: "Amanda N"Really? I'll hold you to them! :-D
You can try ... :boxing:
So, tell me all your secrets! :)

I can tell you now! I'm getting a Hears All Dragons persona! If it's approved, that is. :)

*shudders*
is that bad? :(
Quote from: "Amanda N"is that bad? :(
It's a cliche, I guess. Depends how you write it. I write a lot of cliches because I like to make something of them. All my brownriders are loyal faithful followers, I love Impression from the Stands, etc
Just as long as it's not a woman bound to become a queenrider. Which is one I think AM over used (Torene, Lessa, Moreta (The legendary one that is), Brekke, and almost Aramina)
I was wanting to play a HAD. I was thinking about playing a man in his fifties who was a dedicated weaver (who specializes in tapestries). He stood, but never succeeded, and forever loathed dragons because of it. However, he stayed in the weyr anyway, because of his love for a male greenrider that would never love him back because he was not a rider...
My points are getting close, but I'll wait to see where you place your character first before I place mine. We don't want too many HADs in the same weyr.
OUt of curiosity is there one already at DFW?
GVH area, not at the weyr. And no, she's not bound to become a queenrider. My plans don't include that. Avril and I have been plotting. ;-D

Plotting is always good :)

DFW's Weyrleader is a HAD.
As well as marks, I do have another (slight) obsession on the forums. If you click on the 'Memberlist' link at the top of the page, then sort for 'Total Posts' and 'Descending' you can see the rankings of the people who post the most.
It was a red-letter day for me when I got into the Top Ten, and I still enjoy checking my progress up from there.
Congratulations Amanda N! You've broken into the Top Twenty!
You can also sort for total marks - useful for when you're looking for a 'new best friend' to open a location with! :laughing6:
If that's crazy then Eimi your insane! 3271 total posts :erschreckt:
Quote from: "Stasha"If that's crazy then Eimi your insane! 3271 total posts :erschreckt:
Yeah. She's going to be hard to overtake!
Hey, why don't you use her as a "good friend" I'm sure she has plenty of marks :D
Eimi already has a Hold and a Hall. Hard sell to convince her she needs a second of either, I would have thought!
Do you think she'd just transfer over some of her marks to us?
Oh, top twenty! Gotta make it to the top ten! WHOO!
