Basically, I've been in this club since February and there are people in it I've never coposted with because either they've been LOA or they only copost with each other. Sad, isn't it? This club is nowhere near as active as it could be, especially when (according to the newsetter listing) people keep joining all the time.

It is sad, I've noticed it too. I've been member for umpteeth years, and there are still people I've not co-posted with. But what can you do when only certain people reply to co-posts? :(

How many writers do you reckon there really are around? Not just always-around but still committed to writing here, even if they're on LOA? Twenty, maybe? I always reckon on 25% of the writing pool being on LOA at any one time which should leave us about 15 coposting right now.
Looking over the lists we have Allison, Amanda, Becki, Emma, Jane, Kaysea, Paula, Rochelle, Roxanne, and Vix who are around for sure. That's a nice big writing group, even if not as big as the membership pages would suggest. Clubs have survived for years on less than 10 writers!
The problem comes when there's a major plotline, one that has been set for a definite date, and what should occur doesn't. Right now we're in month six, Hatching at RBW is supposed to be day 3, so basically any characters who might be up for Impression or those related to them, are on hold. That's out of our hands. I'm just starting to get to know one of my characters there and -- Impress or not -- I'd like to continue that exploration but can't. I find that very discouraging.
Well, as far as the new people in the newsletter, the number is rather high, but remember that many join and decide to watch for a while, which is fine. Some people join and then realize they really don't have time to devote to a club, which is understandable. Others find out they can't have a goldrider as their first persona, a female bluerider, or a brownrider who shoots lightning bolts out of their eyes and decide Triad is not the place for them. Of course we're happy when they decide to join in on all the fun :D
But I think that we need to remember that there are a lot of people who are members of Triad who have very limited time. They might only be able to post here and there, but hey, I'm happy they've decided to stay! Nothing says every member has to meet a minimum number of posts and have a certain number of co-posters. Some people have a lot of real life concerns and the fact that they take time out to spend with us, however much it is, I'm just grateful for the contribution they make.

Wouldn't hurt if we knew that was the standard, and it might make timeliness easier for some.

Sure, everybody has different amounts of time to spend on the club, and that can change from month to month or year to year, but a certain level of commitment is necessary to be fair to everybody. The more involved one's characters are with other characters, the more rank they hold, the greater the level of commitment and continuity that is required.

TE-TB-Month 1 was extended, as was Month 3. That's two months out of the last six.
It might make it easier on people and more forgiving of LOAs if each Pern month went for three Earth months before the next Pern month was opened. Just an idea.
Well, I enjoy writing with anybody who wants a co-post with me. Old or new. I rarely decline a co-post and then I usually have a good reason, like the suggested post don't fit into some person's storyline.

This topic is starting to hurt feelings and taking a passive aggressive tone in more than one place, so much that I lost my temper earlier and had to delete a post I made in anger.
Yes, Jane. Everyone has different amounts of time, and it is not fair sometimes when someone who was hyper-involved has to make the choice not to be.
I am a great example. Boy, I was very involved. I had Level Ones, a goldrider, a Weyrlingmaster... rankers everywhere.
I had a death in the family. They did not check first to see if that would be convenient for my coposters. They did not check to see how much rank I was holding. The terrible things that happened in my life over the past year changed a lot of my priorities.
I've spent the last year involved with legal battles because of a case of abuse and neglect that ended in the death of a loved one. I have not blabbed about it on the forums because it was my private business and my private pain. My life fell to pieces around me.
And during that whole time? I was coming online and dealing with people e-mailing me every single day about problems with the website, or personas that weren't being approved fast enough, or rules that they didn't like, or e-mail that wasn't working, or downtime on the site.
I tried to deal with it. I thought I could get through it, and maybe when life was a little less hard, I could have fun again. But the constant complaints, the constant hostility, the constant insistence that my motivations might be something other than making sure everyone has the most fun they can--it destroyed the enjoyment I used to get.
So now I am slowly trying to give up my rankers, because it's not fair. It's not fair to keep them when I can't bring myself to post with them. It's not fair to keep them when I finally feel up to coming to the forums and find a thread like this which makes me feel like I'm letting people down.
It's not fair to keep them when I sort of loathe the thought of having to write with them.
This is not an official council post. I am speaking for myself an no one else when I ask everyone to maybe consider that administrators have lives too--and sometimes they are terrible. Sometimes things are happening in them that would make you ill if you found out.
We sit in the back and we quietly try to keep our pain out of your fun, but sometimes we see things like this, and it makes us wonder why on earth we even bother to put all the hard work in.
I did it because I loved the club. Hopefully someday soon I'll love the club again. Right now I feel like maybe I should step away before I can't handle it anymore.
I think we all just need to keep in mind that the people who currently have ranks have earned them, whether you were a member at the time or not. And I think we need to remember that there are lots of open ranks, so if its a lack of ranking opportunities you're worried about, that's no a problem.
All right guys, I think before more feelings get hurt we better close this out. I'm sure no one intended for it to go as far as it has. Let's move on to something else.
If nobody objects, I'm going to lock this down. It has run it's course, and we don't need any more hurt feelings, or potentially hurt feelings. Lets live and let live, okay?
