I thought it'd be fun to have a thread where I (and anyone else who wants!) can share completely random tidbits that don't fit into other threads but don't, by themselves, deserve a whole thread. Random derailments welcome!
I'll start things off!
My car is missing a window. Has been for a while now. I have it covered with a trash bag held in place by duct tape. My sister recently asked me if I ever planned on getting it replaced. I told her, not really. Maybe one day, but I'm not in any hurry to spend hundreds of dollars (cause not only the glass is missing, but the frame and so on was messed up when it happened) to get it replaced.
Her response?
"But, Amanda! When the zombies come they'll be able to push right in and get you!"
:jg:
Heehee, crazy zombies. Something random for me isssss I'm going to see Simpsons tonight and I'm VERY excited. :) I love it!
Yes. I told her that if the Rage Virus (from 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later) ever came to my town, I'd just resign myself to either being zombie food or becoming one, cause I simply can't run as fast as those zombies.
She said that she couldn't either but she wouldn't get caught anyway cause she'd just make sure to trip whoever was running with her and escape while the zombies were going after the easy prey on the ground.
:jg:
Another something random: Don't you hate how you feel hungry when you're bored... but you're not really hungry, you're just soul crushingly bored and you know that, but it doesn't make you feel less hungry.
I was relaxing and playing Runescape, but a storm crept in and I had to stop. It's gone now, though we're still under a storm watch, and I'm finishing coposts and forums before returning to game play.
In between, I was bored -- and hungry. Yep.
Another random bit: I occasionally go to a name generator to get ideas for character names. The other night nothing good was coming up, so I did a search for new name gens. I found one that I decided was a bit disturbing:
http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/ (http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/)
Yes, it's for a different type of names/characters than I needed, but still. . .

:erschreckt:
That
is rather disturbing!
LOL I hate being bored b/c I end up eating! Grrr! that does NOT help the diet!
I love 28 days later! I didn't really like 28 weeks later, but the first one ROCKED. My hubby likes it too so I finally went out and bought a copy of it a few weeks ago. I love the Rage Virus. The whole concept of that cracks me up. And yes, I'd be clawing around, tripping people too!
Is that fake name generator thing real?? If it is, talk about FREAKY!!!
I read the FAQ on the site and it says that the info mostly is used for testing data entry programs and what not. Pretty much everything is random, but plausible. The credit card numbers use inactive combinations to prevent fraud.
huh...that's crayz.
Flavored Sun Chips are just nasty. The only kind I like are the plain ones. Unfortuantely, there were no plain ones to be had.
I like the plain ones too! Of course, that's because all the flavored ones have milk or whey or some other milk-derived product and I'm lactose intolerant and can only HAVE the plain ones. Fortunately, I love the taste.
Everytime I catch a cricket and toss it outside, two more come in somehow. Why do the crickets want in here so badly??? They're only going to starve to death! :crybaby:
Here's something I wanna know...
What the heck happened on July 2, 2007 that had 42 of us logged into the message boards all at once?

The log-ins don't just count actual members, but spiders as well. Around that time, other Pern sites, such as NKT, MoM, and Wolfegar's were also hit by massive amounts of spider traffic.

We have
spiders??
:aengstlich:
I bet we have more spiders :geek:
I got free furniture today. A coffee table, an old steamer trunk, and a set of bookshelves. Yay for free stuff!
Hubby bought tickets to Nightwish's concert! Yay! it's on 1.1.2008! in Helsinki. They'll have new album out soon.
:bounce:

They're putting new awnings up! Nice ones.
Also, I bent my fingernail backward and it bled horribly. Stopped that now but the tip of my finger feels all bruised.
Also, also, I'm getting lunch for free today!
Paula, I am so, so, so, so, so, so *deep breath* so, so, so jealous of you! Nightwish is one of my all time favorite bands! I can't wait for their new CD. Have you heard the song Eva, with the new singer? I like it, but it sure is a different sound from Tarja. :( WWWAAHHH! I wish I was there.
P.S. I'm listening to them right now on my Zune at work. :bounce:

Yes, I've heard Eva. Beautiful song. We have pre-ordered the new CD.
Two of my three library books are overdue. I hate it when the books are due on different days.
ooo, I've pre-ordered the new CD from Amazon too. I'm so excited. :)
Today was the first day of school. My schedule totally didn't work. I have to redo the schedule and try again.
Even though I'm living in the middle of a city, I still see deer. As I pull out of the road where the center is located, I can see the fence surrounding the National Institute for Standards and Technology and within it lives a herd of deer, including a buck that's at least 8 points and may be as many as 12 (he was running and I was driving so counting wasn't easy). In addition, a doe and a fawn were grazing just outside the play yard at the center.
And quite a few times as I was passing the mall, a flock of geese were walking on the sidewalk.
Quote from: "Vix"... including a buck that's at least 8 points and may be as many as 12 (he was running and I was driving so counting wasn't easy)....
I'm sure you would have made at least that many points in pedestrians and cyclists mown down while you counted ... ;D
QuoteAnd quite a few times as I was passing the mall, a flock of geese were walking on the sidewalk
At my university we had families of quail. There would be a mama and papa with their little tiny babies running down the mall between the buildings. There is nothing cuter than little scurrying baby quail :D
I looked at my profile on the Triad site and had a time-warping moment! I guess the site does age based on month/year and not actual day, cause it says I'm 30 and my birthday's not till Thursday. Which is cool and all, but when I saw it I was like Crap...What day is it? :jg: I had an actual moment of panic thinking I'd somehow missed two days! :jg:
I love smarties (http://www.smarties.com/) candy. I don't like to chew them though. I like to suck on a few peices at a time till they dissolve into a powdery sugary goo. It's so tasty, but cause the edges of each piece are hard, it rubs the roof of my mouth raw and after eating several rolls of the candy, my mouth just hurts.
But I can't not eat them that way! :jg:
From my 3 years old daughter's mouth:
There's moon up there, it falls down and attacks.
:ka:
Perhaps I shouldn't let her watch same programs from TV as big brother. Should settle for teletubbies or fimbles.

That's actually kinda cute! Did she say how the moon attacks? Does the moon have teeth? Or does it just roll over you like a giant beach ball?
Heehee, I love little kids. They're so darn cute and say the funniest things! :) Although, i have 3 dogs, and I'm perfectly content with them and NO kids! LoL
Smarties aren't a hard candy - those are rockets. Smarties have delicious candy-coated shells that hide a tasty chocolate interior! I'd post a link but the forums wouldn't let me.
Also, to go with the random animal theme? Bears = not so cute*. I am very glad that I am not going back to the bear infested site that I worked at before. Two bear encounters in one day is a little much!
*except when they're treed cubs, because that's darned cute even if you're in immenant mum-danger!

No way! They're a hard, pressed powder candy. I've never even heard of rockets! :jg: Course, in England they call cookies biscuits, so it's prolly a regional thing! :jg:
I agree with Yvonne, smarties are chocolate with a sugar shell - see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarties_(Nestl%C3%A9 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarties_(Nestl%C3%A9)
All that proves is that it is indeed a regional thing! :jg: Like football and soccer! Cookies and biscuits! Car trunks and car boots! :jg: Just this time instead of one thing with two different names, we've got two things with the same name. Well... actually the cookies and biscuits fits that category too. :jg:
I've had way too much sugar today! :compress:

Thank you Vickie!! I knew I couldn't be the
only person who knew of a non-chocolate version of Smarties! :jg:
I heard on the radio that Owen Wilson has decided to not go into rehab. Instead, he's hired a "Sober Buddy" for like $700 an HOUR. This person's job is to basically hang out with Owen and keep him from drinking and/or indulging in drugs and act like a good influence on him.
How the HELL can I become a "Sober Buddy?" Where do you go to apply for that job?

Those are Refreshers!!!!
*chuckles @ the smarties*
I remember refreshers and smarties and have always thought M & M's were a copycat of smarties.
I left a bowl in the sink here at work to soak last night cause it had major stuck-on action going on, and I was gonna wash it when I went on lunch - and then use it again, right? Well, one of my coworkers washed it instead. She was acting all put out with me a bit ago and I couldn't figure out why... till I saw the bowl had been washed. I didn't leave that bowl there for her to wash, so I don't know why she took it on herself to wash it then be pissy with me.
:angry1:
There another random fact of life I've been pondering: Don't people ever stop to check which train they get up on?
I travel between work and home by train. There's two kind of train-lines: the fast one that goes from A to Z without stops and the slow one that stops in every station between. They leave from same platform, five minutes apart. I prefer the fast one, but I get home with both. Almost daily someone realizes that they are in wrong train when the fast one speeds past their home-station. Then they go: F***! Isn't this one stopping at X? When's the next stop? *add more cursing* If only they had checked the letter at the train's outside (or the platform screen.) :withstupid:
(The kids I can understand and feel sorry for.)
Paula, I understand the pain. All summer I rode New Jersey Transit between Eric's and school/work, and it was a pain. We caught an express, and they would make an announcement "This is an express to New York, the last local stop will be New Brunswick followed by Newark International Airport. We will not be stopping at Edison, Metropark(lalala)". And there were STILL people who would want to go to, say, Rahway, get on, ask the conductor if it went to Rahway once he came by, and flipped out. *sigh*
Something really random happened to my brother yesterday. He got a call on his cell from Scholastic telling him he won 2 tickets to go see JK Rowling in New York for her Harry Potter Q&A and signing. He entered the sweepstakes, you see :D So, if all goes well and we can afford the flight and hotel, we're going to go! It's very exciting. And totally random.
I just hope it works out :love5:

WEll, I can't really say much... That happens to me sometimes. In my defense, though, all the trains are in Japanese... XD
When I used to live in Austin, I didn't have a car and didn't need one cause the public transportation there is really good. But if I'd a dollar for everytime I was going somewhere new and misread the map and got on the bus going the wrong way! Or better yet, a dollar for every time I fell asleep on the bus, missed my stop, and had to either get off the bus and get to the next stop for that bus going back to the stop I'd missed or just sit on that bus till it circled around (depending on how close to the end of the route I was when I woke up! :jg: ). Anyway, I'd prolly be rich! :jg:
And Dana, I'm so totally jealous! That's awesome!
Oh, yes, I've slept past my stop too. :sleepy1:
I've two random things:
First, regarding my Netflix - I'm gonna save up empty slots on Netflix till I have enough to get the entire 21 disc series of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon that began airing in 2003.
Second, regarding Travian (a strategy war game Mikel introduced me to) - When people send me in game messages asking/warning me to stop attacking them, and they don't bother spelling out the words 'you' and 'your' it makes me want to attack them even more. I can understand bad spelling. I'm a poor speller. I can understand less than stellar grammar. I'm a bit gramatically impaired myself. I can even understand poor word usage. Not everyone playing an international game is very fluent in English. However... the fact that someone is trying to get me to take them seriously when they can't even bother to type the Y and O of the words YOU and YOUR just ticks me off and makes me want to raze their village to the ground.
Mmmm..... I've got coffee (Gevalia's Vanilla Nut coffee to be exact!) brewing right behind me and it smells sooooo good! :coffee2:
Really random: I have had 4 phone numbers in my life. Of these, 3 of them have had a 0 in the second position of the last 4 digits. (i.e. 1-XXX-XXX-X0XX). That is REALLY WEIRD.

It's how the MAN is keeping tabs on you!
There's a juvenile beaver in the creek behind the building I work in! We've been catching glimpses of the critter in the tall grass at a distance and wondering just what he was (he always scampered off before anyone could make a positive ID. Guesses ranged from it being a nutria to it being a groundhog, but beaver was always dismissed cause no one had spotted the distinctive tail until now). My supervisor just caught a picture of it sitting at the edge of the parkinglot eating something and it included the tail. It's so cute!
