Title: Kids Stories
Post by: Jane on May 27, 2007, 10:47:17 AM
I don't usually have any of these to offer (having had no kids myself and getting the steppies when they were 8, 11, and 12) but the grandkids are here.

As a good Nana I fed Nicole (4) four different colours of icecream while her mother was away putting Dylan (3) to bed.

Apparently this is not considered a good thing to do shortly before bed time. :laughing5:

Tell me funny stories about kids that live with you or have crossed your path.

My little brother, Taylor, was born when my sister and I were 6, so we got to watch him grow up and do all the things parents wait patiently for their babies to do.

He was just beginning to talk and had this little car thing that he would sit on and push himself around the living room. I remember coming out of the bathroom and seeing him pushing his little legs as fast as he could go making car noises, with his sunglasses on. I asked him where he was going and he turned and looked at me with a huge grin on his face. He stood up, threw his arms above his head and declared "I'm a BIG BOY!".

He was so damned cute. But after about 40+ times of repeating the line - I was glad he had a somewhat short attention span.

Oh, and recently... I was watching a friend of mine's daughter, Delaney. She's about 5 mths and was getting very tired and fussy. She was trying her hardest to keep her eyes open and when that frustrated her, she began wailing. I gently rocked her and talked to her, knowing she would pass out and sleep at any moment.

I sat on the floor and put a movie in and waited for her to fall asleep, holding her wrapped in a blanket so she wouldnt scratch herself. One of my puppies, Cadence, hated it. She could not stand that baby crying and sat in front of my whining and crying just as loud as Delaney was.

So, here I am, sitting crossed-legged on my living room floor, holding a screaming baby in the crook of my arm and rubbing Cadence's ears with the free hand. I couldnt help but laugh because it was so ubsurd. Finally, Delaney feel asleep and so did Cadence. I ended up sitting there until my friend and her husband came over to pick her up because I didn't want either one of them - the baby, or the dog to wake up.

Cailee's latest trick

Woke up on Thursday morning to find Aimee and Bobbie had already left for school, and Cailee was up watching TV in the lounge room.  Apparently she figured she was big enough now she's three, to make her own brekkie.

* * * * *

Ingredients
One large mixing bowl in the middle of the lounge room floor.
One almost full box of Froot Loops
One half full three litre bottle of milk

Method
Place mixing bowl in middle of lounge room floor, and fill with half a box of Froot Loops.
Dig well in centre of Froot Loops - knocking many out onto floor - leave them there.
Pour milk into well until whole bottle is used up.
Discard empty bottle and half full box of Froot Loops in kitchen.
Eat three or four mouthfuls and decide you've had enough.
Let the remaining Froot Loops absorb the milk until they are swollen and climbing out of the mixing bowl.
Sit and watch TV until mum gets up.
Ignore mess on lounge room floor.

* * * * *

Aren't kids wonderful? ;)

And I was so stunned by the mess I forgot to take a photo.  I know, I am a big disappointment to the scrapbooking world - I always forget in my urgency to clean up the mess.  :confused3:

Quote from: "Kate"My little brother, Taylor, was born when my sister and I were 6, so we got to watch him grow up and do all the things parents wait patiently for their babies to do.

Isn't that great?  All the fun with only a little of the responsibility  :flower:  It was the same way for my and my two younger brothers.

My younger brother John has loved pirates and music since he was a little kid.  His favorite movie of all time (and probably still is) was Pirates of Penzance.  When he was four years old he used to turn the coffee table over, and that would be his ship.  Then he'd dress up in a vest and a bowtie and tie a sash around himself with a pirate sword sticking out of it, and get into my father's work boots that came up to his knees and jump around with a sword in one hand and a toy blunderbust in the other singing "I am the pirate KIIIIIIIIIIING!"

Matthew's great love since infancy was babies.  When he was four years old I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up and he said "I want to be a Daddy, because that's the most important job".  When he was a year old he found a baby doll somewhere and his favorite thing was feeding it a bottle.  We have picture of him laying in bed, about to fall asleep with his little baby doll next to him, feeding it a bottle and a bottle in his own mouth.  He was absolutely precious.

I have many kid stories. Too many kid stories.
But I'll start with one about my son:

Five years old, in kindergarten, I went to the spring choral program at his school. It was a small school, and two of the teachers of older grades greeted me and seemed to be snickering as they asked, "Oh -- you husband couldn't make it tonight?"

When I ran into my son's teacher, she informed me that he had announced to everyone, "My dad won't be here tonight cause you're not serving beer."

Out of the mouths of babes... LOL

Gotta love'em...

Recent one from yesterday:
My daughter (almost three) was sitting on her rocking horse (zebra), butt naked (just out of shower), "reading" book.  I was saying to her: Come one, let's put on pyjama and go to brush your teeth. She replies: Be quiet now, I'm reading.  Dad came to say the same thing, and she says: Don't talk to me, I'm reading. :)

They're funny when they start imitating the older kids/adults.  Cailee's in that stage as well.
