Title: Reading Triad's Stories
Post by: Jane on May 24, 2007, 01:39:57 AM
Kaysea's comment about printing off her reading - the club's stories - made me wonder: How do you read the Triad posts?

On screen?  Printed?  As they are posted or a week's worth over the weekend?  Do you sort them into Pern date order?  Do you read them in the order they were posted.  Do you read some people's or some characters' posts first? Are you up-to-date on your reading or are you days / weeks / months behind?  Do you save them all or just copies of your own?

First of all, my system: I use Outlook Express for my triadweyrs.org address and initially all mail for that address comes to the inbox. Actual posts are then transferred to folders, either "My Posts" or "Unread Posts," while coposts are replied to and then transferred to "Ongoing Coposts" (a folder I tend to let go and not clean out as often as I should). I also have folders My Personas, Plotting, Ready to Post, and Miscellaneous Letters.

Ok, the posts themselves. Obviously I don't read my own. However, the others I read on-screen, in the order in which received, and then transfer them to the "Read Posts" folder. I read as I have time, usually in batches of four or five posts. I try not to get over 20 posts back-logged, but with the end of the school year (one more day with kids and one clean-up day to go!) I'm behind -- currently 27 messages in that folder, dating back to May 12th.

I read them as I get them.  In no particular order, after I've replied to coposts, or sometimes before.  I don't really have a set way to read Triad posts, I just kind of do.

I think I'm pretty much like Vix.  Read them on screen pretty much as they arrive, don't like to let them build up over a dozen or so.  But then I chuck them out!  They're all on the web site and email archive anyway.  I do keep one's I've written in.

Lately, though, I've been putting ones I want to nominate for Crayons aside in a little folder so that I don't go so blank when the next Crayon competition comes around.

You're too clever by half Jane!!  What A GREAT idea about the Crayon Awards!!!   Mind if I steal it?!

As far as me, I read when I have time.  Usually over the weekend.   I keep them all though, and I do read my own.  Posts to the list go into their own folder and when it turns "black", I know I need to go read :)

But I do need to organize my coposts a little better so they dont get lost in the admin mail...

I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that it might make me look further behind than I really am. :drunken:

I do save all of the posts, and at the very least I have been skimming them -- interesting titles catch my eye! -- but I've read very few of them in the last 6 weeks or so while I've been consumed with the play for my directing class. When I do read them, it's on-screen either in Outlook or via webmail.

Man, I'm behind on EVERYTHING. Reading, writing... sending. *hides*

I believe my last tally of posts I should have sent but didn't was around 30 or so. Sometimes I really shouldn't be allowed to be in charge of that sort of thing. I don't know why everyone lets me do it!

Generally I read them on the computer and so far I have tried not to let more than 5-7 stack up before I read.  A couple of times I have printed them off and retired to a bubble bath to read them.  I employ Jane's method of keeping a file for those stories that really strike me (or the stories where a character really strikes me) so that I can refer back when crayon awards come about.

Wow. That's dedication. I am so far behind in my reading it's shameful.

Generally, I tend to read posts from the locations I'm most involved in - GVH and AHH. Stuff can happen at those locations that will affect my characters, whether I like it or not, and it's embarassign to get caught with my pants down. :P As for the other posts... I generally tend to read the ones that star characters that I really like, or writers that I really enjoy. I do delete some (sorry, folks - I'm just being honest! :() because I don't have time to sit down and read them all, and I hate that they clutter up my inbox.

I do read all of the 'What' lines, though. Even if I don't read the post it's nice to have a summary of what's going on.

I read my own first, then ones with favorite characters, then in the order they were sent.

Keeping ones for the Crayon Awards is a good idea! I might do that.

Okay, I'm getting behind in my reading now!

It's your fault, Jane.

And I have more to go!

(It's great, though, I'm going to get all my m3 posts out before the end of the month.)

You're very brave.  I can't read my own stuff in case there are typos.  Nothing worse than spotting typos when it's too late to fix them!

You're supposed to read them?  :cyclopsani:
That probably explains why I have over 200 of them waiting. At the rate of 2-3 posts per day... Please, Jane, stop posting!  :computer:

I have only three to go and then I'm caught up.  Then I'll stop.

(Not 'stop' exactly, but I'll go back to the normal posting rate.)

Oh, yeah. That drives me nuts! But I like reading my own stories, and then I stick them in a folder to save. I've read some of them half a dozen times, or more.
Title: All caught up!
Post by: Vix on June 16, 2007, 05:02:29 AM
I had to find this post again because I feel quite accomplished: for the first time in who-knows-how-long, I'm all caught up with coposts and with reading posts to the list!

Of course, this is just in time for Jane's returne -- which means I'll get behind again really fast.

I just finished the last of my "to be read" stories, so I'm caught up as well!    I can hardly believe it!

Since the day I caught up, I've been allowing them to accumulate a little (now have 7 in the folder, but expect more by the end of the day!) and will read them while traveling to TN.

I've been pretty slow this last month, too busy sending someone else's posts off to read any! [j/k]

Anyway I printed off 35 today and still have 99 in my folder. LOL

To give you an indication Jane, Arateyka has just talked to her dad about Rahona moving to the Sungazer. LOL

I'm determined I'll be up to date before the end of the month.  I'll need to be, because you know what everyone is like, all posting to the list in the last two or three days. LOL  It'll be over 100 again by June 30.
