Title: It's Amazing What You Can Learn From The Internet...
Post by: Eimi on May 09, 2007, 08:43:24 PM
So someone apparently lost the key to the computer cabnet at school.  One of the teachers needed a projector for a class this afternoon, so as I sat in the teachers reading room (where this cabnet is) I watched as 5 different teachers stood there with everything from rulers to pliers to paper clips trying to get this thing open.  Finally it was done to one teacher still carrying on the fight.  I asked if I could give it a try.  I noticed that it was a pin lock, so I jumped on the school computer and found a website (several, actually) that explained exactly how to pick a pin lock.  I asked the teacher for a paperclip and a small screwdriver and within 15 minutes I had it figured out and opened.  The teachers were impressed by my criminal skills, and I was impressed by the wealth of information that we have at the tips of our fingers.  You really can find ANYTHING on the internet.  I find that fact both exciting and a little disturbing...

Aren't you the budding criminal mastermind!  I know what you mean, though.  My nephew was just telling me that he found directions for making both a gun and a bomb on the internet...I didn't check into the truth of this statement and on occassion he does exagerate...but he was extremely disappointed because they did not have everything he needed to make either and his mom was not sympathetic to his plight.

No, it is true, you can find bomb making instructions on the net - they say that; was one of the sources that the recently joailed would be London bombers used.

I know thats so scary.  I remember there being tutorials on how to pick locks on You-Tube.  Its very scary what this new electronic world can do.  Just don't go telling your students you pick locks cause who knows what might happen then.
