Title: A Very Timid Hello
Post by: PastMember on May 09, 2007, 09:19:32 AM
Hello to everyone!

My name is Maria, but mostly I am called Mina.  I am just lurking around right now.  Ainsley and I correspond via email and she told me that I would really enjoy Triad.  There are some very good stories on the site indeed.  Such an intricate set up that you have!

I am not sure about joining in just yet, but I received a very nice welcoming email from Vix (thank you again) and she told me that I should come and introduce myself.  It has been a very long time since I have read the books and there is much information on your website.  Perhaps when I have read more I might think about creating someone.  One concern that I have is time.  I probably only have about 30 minutes per day for this activity and some days I might not be able to write at all.  Do you think that would be enough time to write for a character?

Hi Mina!  Welcome!  I hope you'll enjoy lurking, and hopefully one of these days we can draw you in to writing as well!

And sure, 30 minutes a day is enough for at least one persona!  You can write as much (or as little) as you have time for!

Welcome to our little asylum.

I am sure Vix can teach you all you need to know about lurking.

Hi Mina!  Welcome to Triad Weyrs.

I would say that a regular (or almost regular) 30 minutes a day would be plenty; better than hours a day for a week then two weeks of nothing!  Some of our writers don't reply to coposts on weekends, for instance, and that doesn't seem to hurt.

There's no penalty for trying it out and later having to make the decision that it's not working.

I'm glad to see you here, Mina!

If you want to test the waters and see 1) If you like writing Pern and 2) If you have enough time, we can involve you in an NPC post. The character will probably be a family member of a member's persona, and you can try it out, writing in-character, and if you copost (write with another player), you can also get immediate feedback on how you're doing and have any questions answered. I'll gladly help you with this!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bounce:

I'm so glad that you decided to check it out Mina!  I really think you'll love it!  It's really not hard at all to get started and everyone is very helpful!  Once you're ready you know you can count on me for coposts!

I know you want to....

Helllooooo! No need to be timid... I don't think we're THAT scary! :D Probably...

But I'm glad you're lurking! Vix is an expert lurker *cough* so she'll take good care of you. :D

Just so that I can keep this straight in my head: is it pronounced "My-na" or "Mee-na"?

Welcome Mina.  Its nice to meet you.  And just so you have an idea of how much you can get done in 30 minutes.  One day I typed a history paper, replied to at least ten coposts, updated my Deviant Art Account with three entries, did my math homework OFF the computer and ate dinner.  Now I'm also very good at multitasking, but I got that done in about 30 minutes.  I should probably mention that I also had about three power drinks and eight cups of coffee, so I was WIRED!!!

Again Welcome!

Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome!  I cannot tell you after a very long day at work how nice it was to come and read all these little notes - just for me! :color:

You are all very kind.  When you find how very inept I am, particularly if I do start writing, then you may want to role your eyes.  Already I have made two rather ridiculous errors!  (I was very nervous to try this thing that I had never dreamt of trying before!) I spelled my own name wrong at the beginning of this posting.  It IS Marie and NOT Maria!  Also in the club area I first listed my age as 30 years older than I am!

I could not figure how to "quote" again or I would have included Jane's quote.

It is pronounced "Meena" with the emphasis on the first syllable.

I think perhaps you scare me, Patrick.

But you must be a very efficient person!

I really must do one thing at a time.

Just so everyone knows...

Mina may be timid about internet/computer things and she really can be as sweet as a kitten but...

This kitten can become quite the tiger!  BELIEVE ME!  And I do mean Shere Khan type of tiger here...just see the Vix's thread on her new pet....

When she joins in...and I know she will (Because, Mina, I KNOW you want to) just keep in mind she may seem sweet and cuddly, but she has claws!

And I wouldn't want you any other way, Mina!

Hello Mina!

Don't let them scare you. :) As long as you don't have a ranker, you can devote as much or as little time to Triad as you want. Heck, it's a HOBBY, not a job - take as much time as is FUN. If you don't want to write for a few days, then don't! Nobody bites.

And to tell you my dirty little secret... not only have I not read Pern in a while, I was never much of a fan. :P I got suckered in here by a friend and stayed for the writing. You'll do FINE.
