Title: Owl or Lark?
Post by: Jane on April 23, 2007, 12:31:45 AM
The other morning I got up a little earlier than usual, perhaps 4.45am?  And Kaysea (-2 hours from my time zone) was still online!  At nearly 3am!  How could she do that?  Didn't her eyes get heavy at 8.30pm and close at 9?

So, which are you?

* A lark - always finding it easy to get up early, always brighter in the morning?

* Or an owl - a night bird whose brain comes alive as the sun goes down?

I'm a lark -- up by 5 a.m. every day. However, I usually don't make it to bed until at least 11:00.

Of course, this morning if I didn't have to work, I'd probably head back to bed. My head aches a bit (couldn't have been all that rum yesterday?).

I'm both.  I can stay up till 2am and still get up at 5.  I'm just like that.

Yeah, for me it kind of depends.  I'm usually a night owl, but if there is a good reason to wake up early I can pretty easily.  Waking up for work, unfortunately, is not considered a good enough reason ;)

I'm a night owl for sure. I think the perfect sleeping hours are from like... 4am to 10am or so. My problem is that while I can stay up really really late, I generally can't sleep that much later. :p I try to go to sleep at an hour so that when I get up at 8, I've at least gotten SOME sleep.

I used to be a night owl, but now all my classes are obscenely early and I can't do that anymore. When I was in HS I used to stay up gaming until 1AM and then get up at 6AM. That was PERFECT for me. Now I'm going to bed around midnight and waking up around 8. It doesn't help that I don't have an alarm clock.

Just you wait, me boyo.  When I was your age three hour nights were no big deal, nor was the missed night now and then.

Three decades down the road, I be lovin' my sack time

For me it depends...  I can get up at 6am for work, but I don't like doing it anymore because I've been spoiled by having all my classes starting later in the day  :D  A regular night for me would be going to bed around 1am and waking up at 7:15.

I love staying up late...

I was just lamenting this to my husband!  Why can't I pull an all nighter just to tie up a few loose ends like I used to?  I blame the kids...

By nature I'm an owl, and getting up prior to about 7:00 am just feels wrong ~ but life has a way of teaching you things and this is one I've had to learn.  I really admire (and envy) the larks however!

No kidding! I'm looking back fondly on my first year of college (which was a depressing decade ago! *g*) and wishing I could pull all-nighters now like I used to then!

I suppose I'll just have to work during the day here if I want to graduate. :D

I'm a lark - with the sun (which averages to 6am over the year give or take) , and sleepy once it's dark (any time after 9:30pm)

I always know it's time for me to go to bed when Emma's getting up for the morning! ;)

I used to be a night owl, but my body has decided that it does not like that anymore. We used to stay up most of the night gaming and then would go to work the next morning stepping over the people that had crashed in our living room.

Now I try to make it to bed before 10:30p on weeknights and get up between 6am and 7:30am most days.

What I have found annoying is that when I was a university student, I could be up until 4 or 5am and then sleep in until 2:00 in the afternoon.  Now, no matter what time I go to bed, I get up around 8:00.  If I can sleep in to 10:00 I feel I have really slept in!

That's it!

From now on, I'm in hiding!!!

I have kids who like to rule my PC from the time they get up in the morning, until they go to bed at night.  Unless its during the week, the only time I get to actually get on and chat or browse is at night.

And besides, that's when all my besties are on.  ;)

Though as of this week I should be in bed by 11 pm every night because I'm back at the gym with Aimee from 6.12 am tomorrow morning.

OH!!!! Gym's closed tomorrow for ANZAC Day, so one more night !

*dances*

And in answer to your question, I am definitely a Night Owl.  Peace, Quiet, Darkness....Ooohhhh......

Yes, but you could stay up all night making ANZAC biscuits to eat instead of going to the gym!

Me thinks, that may sorta defeat the purpose of the gym, yanno?

When I was in high school I was diagnosed with severe insomnia and I used to hate it. Until... COLLEGE! I lived off Red Bull and would pull all nighters at least 3x a week. I wasn't the healthiest girl on the planet, but I pulled it off and got all my work done. (Damn art school... Lol).

Now, I just don't sleep much. I go to bed whenever I get tired, which can vary from 12am to 5am and then I'm up and about between 6am - 10am. On average I probably get about 3-4 hours a night.

I forget to sleep sometimes. I get so wrapped up in whatever I'm doing that I just keep going. This happens especially if I'm painting. Since my fiance works crazy hours - he's working nights this week (well, until the oil ring is done drilling), so he'll call at 3am and tell me to go to bed. Lol.

It's nuts.

So, I guess I'm both.

I am an owl. I get up at eight because I have to and because I have carefully trained myself to do so for years, but I prefer to sleep in past ten. My average bedtime is between twelve and one, except during the end of any semester, when two or three is the norm.

Unfortunately, I've never been someone who did well on little sleep. My friends from my undergrad college have blackmail footage of me at four AM after three hours of sleep. Not pretty. So I try to get at least seven or eight hours a night, but it doesn't always happen...

Seems like we have a lot of night owls! Sounds kinda like the internet as a whole.
