this (http://www.dailymotion.com/visited/search/Americans+are+NOT+stupid/video/x19aqw_americans-are-not-stupid-with-subti) is just way too funny not to share.
Bree - forgive me for generalising about Americans.... But this doesn't paint a good picture of you all. I'm glad I can say that you guys rock, and would have all been able to answer that!
That's hilarious. Those people are...wow. Just wow. It's scary how little some people know.
I find it very sad.
That's hilarious! lol Reminds me of the Jay-walking stuff Jay Leno does.
Course, you know there were probably just as many people who knew the answers but they didn't use those shots cause they weren't funny. lol
No need to apologize, unless you're implying that we should take a video cut together to be funny as a representative sample. ;)
Not that I found it terribly funny... I know it's supposed to be, but mostly it just makes me want to bang my head into something until it breaks. :p I don't like watching people make fools of themself just to get on camera. Probably why I hate reality TV so much. ;)
Haha! Now I am laughing, though. In the comments, someone mentions meeting a girl from Austria who spent a year in Minnesota and did better than everyone on the grammar tests. It's quite possible that girl was part of the same exchange program that put me in Austria for a year. :D
The guy answering the collateral damage question sounded like a Kiwi to me.
My favourite comment is from redberrie - whining about people stereotyping Americans and then going on to stereotype a subset of Americans. Do as I say, not do as I do, apparently!
I reckon everybody stereotypes - it's how we deal with the world.
Okay, that might be a generalisation! :jg:

I have had to struggle quite hard to overcome my yankee upbringing now that I live down in the deep south with all the rebels. ;)
Having lived in many regions of the US as well as outside it, though, I'm now pretty convinced that people are pretty much the same everywhere. They just don't want to admit it. :D
Oh it hurts. The MAP, OMG! I can't believe I live in a country filled to the brim with such IDIOTS! :banghead: Oh man now I feel SO intelligent.
LOL - this reminds me of Ric Mercer's 'Talking to Americans' (sorry too all you cool American folks - I know it isn't representative, but it's still funny!)
Rick Mercer is a comedian here in Canada who, when he worked for This Hour Has 22 Minutes, did a show called 'Talking to Americans' where he went to the states and asked people on the street, politicians, and professors questions about Canada and Canadian issues. Some of the questions were a little obscure for non-Canadians (such as asking about tearing down the Peterman's Bridge - Peter Mansbridge is a top newscaster here) but SOME... people were very indignent to hear that Candians were poaching silverfish out of American waters, and Mr. Bush (pre-presidency) was asked if he wanted to say something to our PM, Jean Poutine (at the time it was Jean Cretchien - poutine is fries with gravy and cheese curds).
On the flip side, we do this to our politicians too. XD One of his collegues, a plump Newfie, dressed up like Xena and 'interviewed' politicians in Ottawa. Mainly she talked at them rapidly and they laughed. Canadians don't take politics that seriously.

You know, it's really funny when Jay Leno does this to stupid college kids, it's just sad when a foreign news agency highlights it.
Although I do think it was somewhat cheating by labeling Austrailia "Iran" and "North Korea". :geek:
I'm just praying someone was having fun cutting things together when they were talking about Florida and Mississippi being "evil" nations. Otherwise... I'm in trouble! They got me on either side! *hides under desk*

I thought that just made it sadder. They couldn't TELL that Australia WASN'T Iran and North Korea. God they can't even find the places they say we should go to war with.
True. But I don't feel too bad. After all, I could probably go anywhere in the world and find people who would say just as stupid things in front of a camera ;) I've heard a lot of ignorant things come out of the mouths of some very smart people...
I probably would have had trouble thinking of a country that began with a "U" on short notice too... I had to sit there and really think before I came up with Uganda and Uruguay... United Arab Emirates... Are there any others? But I would NEVER have come up with the United States. I usually just think of it as America :geek:

That's just what my husband did. I was telling him about the stupid questions people were missing and I said to name a country that starts with the letter U. He named Uganda and Uruguay and then he stalled... I said what about United States and he did a facepalm! I told him not to feel bad, that at least he didn't say Utah! :D

Well given where I live - I came up with Uruguay first as well. But that's more than likely because the media will refer to this country as Great Britain, Britain or England, rarely the UK
Yeah, I hadn't even though about the UK... *blush*
I must be odd because I came up with Uzbekistan first. :D
ooooo And the Ukraine! That's another U country!
Unkari ! oh, it's Hungary in english....
