Title: An Old Database
Post by: Kaysea on March 06, 2007, 08:45:32 PM
Ok, I'm being serious for once, yes, I know that sounds odd, but I am.

I was wondering if anyone knew the link to an old database that was floating around in cyberspace about 6 - 7 years ago?  In the database there was room to list all of your persona's, not just at one Weyr, but all Weyrs.

I have searched the net over the last few days but can't find hide, nor hair of it.  I know it's at least six years old, and quite possibly has disappeared into the ether, but in case it hasn't someone may have stumbled into it on a search sometime.

The reason I ask? I want to remember as many of my old 'sona's as possible. I know at last count I had about 30 at Triad alone.... may be more.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I know the one you mean

I don't have the link I'm afraid, but you could always try the 'Way Back Machine'???

I went to that site and found two old 'sona's, Quillara and Ryonach, but no one else.  Jane then went and did a search and my persona's were dropping out of the ether left, right and centre.

Have to hand it to Jane - sheknows how to search!!

So much so that she found the entire f2s site from when PS was very young, and I have managed to grab a copy of every file it has up there.  I am going to put up the old site so if anyoen wants to look for their persona's - if they existed between when the club started and when it ended on f2's around early 2002, then you will have a copy of your sheets available.

Thanks again Jane, you're ACE!!!

I've found the old PS site as well, but not all of the links to my sheets work. Besides that, when we consolidated to Triad, we redid the persona sheets so that they would fit the new scenario and I have no record of that. I tried searching my personae within the current d-base, but their names don't even register.

A further inquiry: while I've found the old database and most of my Triad members, the Wayback Machine won't yield any Pern Shadows listings, nor Star Lake. There were characters there I didn't carry over to Triad, but might want to adapt now. I know -- I should have saved the info, but I've had too many computers and formats since then. Has anyone had better luck searching out old clubs?

Since we didn't move most of the stuff from f2s' until late 2001, they still had the majority of the sheets in the way back machine.

I'll upload them tonight to my server, and you can go look,ok?

Yay!  :compress:

Does this mean I get to dig up all of my old sheets and adapt them to torture y'all's old personae? Twenty-odd Pern clubs = a ton of evil.  :bom:

I should have all of mine on my computer, or one of my websites. And I have all the sheets from both Rocky Craters if you or Vix need them.

If you see any with my name on, send 'em over... please?

Woah, stuff from the f2s? I wanna see if any of my old babies are in there. *g* The revolving door on my Pern participation didn't get stuck until 2004, so I lost a lot of people in the intervening period. ;)

Awww, I found the f2 site but I don't think any of my stuff is there. ;) By the time my sheets got added, they were putting them into the new site.

Phooey! I miss my chance to see old-skool Dyaera in her first appearance. ;)

I couldn't find Dyaera there, I think you may be right and when we were moving it all over, I started uploading all the new sona sheets directly to the triad server.

I am in the process of uploading it all to my domain at the moment, so hopefully it'll all work ok, coz I really can't be stuffed configuring the pages to work if they don't.  It'd serve no purpose.

Anyway, *fingers crossed* here's hoping..

I was trying to figure out why I didn't have any of that saved anywhere, but realized that was before I learned html. Of course, Kaysea and Bree, you remember what a pain I was with that!
