Bree and I have sort of parallel celebrations planned for May: she graduates on May 5th and has plans to go out with friends and get inked. I guess she'll be doing that on the 6th, but my parallel party will be held on the 5th. So far I've convinced one frined to get tattooed with me and several more to go along just for the fun (we'll probably talke some of them into artwork by then.
Anyone want to join us? No need to be in the same city or even the same country.
Now all I have to do is decide on my design.

No extra needles are coming anywhere near me! I hate the things, but I've been forcing myself to donate blood every six months. Can't do a tattoo too!
But I'm sure there's some more adventurous folks out there who are just looking for an excuse to go for body art!

I've been on twice daily injections for the past 5/6 months, no way would I consider a tatt! You're both crazy!

The pain is negligble. I wouldn't say it tickles, but I've had so much worse!
I have my design already picked out, but it's sorta personal, so I'll just say it will mark the end of an era for me. :)
I have no problem with needles. I give blood every 56 days. and watch.
I just have never had the desire to get inked. Possibly it is a persistant desire to stay below the radar and not have any reason to be noticed. Or the fact that a tat is SUCH an irreversible thing.

I don't mind needles. In my military days I used to let the trainee medics practise taking my blood tests from veins not so commonly used (back of hand, top of feet, etc). They loved it!
Tattoos, however. Eeew. Not for me at all.
I waaaant to donate blood. However I weigh 95 pounds and the minimum is 115, so now matter how much I go "oh please oh please take my bloooood", they won't do it. What's worse is I'm a rare type, so they could probably USE my blood. x.x
Needles scare me, but I don't mind them when it's for a good purpose like blood donation. I think a tattoo would freak me out though.

I despise needles. Hate them with a violent, fiery passion that defies words. As in, when I go to donate blood, I have to warn them when I first walk in that if I see needles, I will chicken out - or pass out! - and it won't be pretty. They usually have me close my eyes before they even take the tubing and stuff out of the packaging and I don't open back up until they've got their pint and the needle away and disposed of. In the meantime, I'm kicked back in that awesome reclining chair, relaxing as much as possible under the circumstances.
But, I've been doing it every six months since 9/11. I'm O Negative, aka Universal Donor, so it really is a humanitarian thing. The Red Cross people are always saying they wish more O-Negs would donate.
I used to donate blood in the states back in high school. At university my town was too small to have a bloodbank and I missed all the redcross days for some reason. And here I wouldn't know where to donate either. Needles never bothered me, even when I was a kid. I actually hate that pin prick in the tip of my finger they give me before I donate more than the actual giving of blood. And I always impress them with how fast I can fill the bag ;)
But I wouldn't get a tattoo. Too permament and I would be afraid that I would look back on it years later and think "Why did I do that?" My ex was a tattoo lover and one day he called me up and said "Guess what! I just got a tattoo of a little fat buddah on my stomach! Now I'm a Buddah Belly! You can rub it for good luck!" And I said "Honey, one of these days you're gonna rethink that one..." And a few months later I said "Yup, you might like it now, but one of these days you just might regret that one..." and he kinda laughed and said "Well, I'm not going ADMIT to regretting it at least...." Which was his way of saying "Yeah, the joke kinda wore off..."
The version of that I heard is about the woman who got a small flower tat when in college, but by the time her daughter went to college, it was a long stem rose.
Even if I could get a tattoo I don't think I would. Being diabetic my body is a very slow healer which is why my psoriasis is so bad. I've learned to live with needles as I have to poke my fingers between six and ten times a day to test my bs levels.
I only have to mess with my pump infusion site every three days, which is so much nicer than two shots twice a day.

They have no problem with me (I am Type-II). Not sure about Type-I
I could always use a reason to get a tattoo!!!

Nope, if you're a diabetic you can't donate anything... We found that out the hard way.
I actually have to give six shots a day now. I have two and have to give Mark four a day. He lost a major injection site when he had the tenckhoff put in his stomach. So now I have to do three in his arms during the day and one in his butt at night.
Thank goodness that after the transplant we'll be back to only two and day... he'll be diabetes free so that'll be just me.... :cry:

Avril, I feel your pain. I'm all of 105lbs and O+, and they still won't take me.
But tattoos ... I LURV my tattoo! I got it 6 years ago and I still love it to bits. Like Bree's, it's a tattoo with a story, but it's a story that's evolved with me as I've grown older. It's relevant today, but is still a picture of who I was when I got it. Aaaaand I want another... but I refuse to have anyone's art permanently on my body except for my own. Which means I have to design a new one. Except I am lazy.
After two epidurals, I've kind of gotten rid off most my fear of needles. (I still close my eyes when they poke it into me.)
Can't donate blood, health reasons. (I have permanent medication) My father is AB and at least used to donate blood regularily.
As for tattoo, I might take one, I actually planned on taking one when I was younger (18 or something) but I lived in small town that had tattoo-shop and I was not going to travel to find one... so no tattoos. Piercings...now that's something I don't understand.
I've had too many friends who have had piercings gone wrong.
And I can understand about your epidural, Paula. I of course have never had one myself, but I watched a doctor stick a needle into my mother's spine TWICE... It certainly makes a strong impression if I can remember it that vividly from 20 years ago...

I have no fear of needles... give blood regularly (though I am boring O+ which is extremely common) and got my nose pierced last year... it is a tiny little stud and I totally love it! :bounce:
Epidurals though... that is just scary. Needles shouldn't go anywhere near the spin!!!
I have a thing about needles. They scare me. :oops:
But I have a piercing in each ear! Not very ambitious, I know. But when I wear earrings, they look nice :)

You know, that's not all that common EVERYWHERE you go... I run into a lot of As and Bs here in Japan. And for some reason everyone here is OBSESSED by bloodtype! They have some idea about bloodtype being related to personality...
Actually, blood type is related to ethnic strains. Europe and africa have higher numbers of As, Asia has lots pf As but slightly more Bs, and the Americas are a mess but for the most part Os. There are mixes everywhere of course, but the theory is that different blood types are less susceptible to certain diseases common in certain environments. Like people with sickle cell anemia having a better chance of surviving Malaria.
I still don't understand tattoos, but I've had pierced ears since kindergarten. Can't get any more holes in the ears though, and I refuse to have them poked anywhere else!
I have a slightly rare blood type - A-. Apararently where I am A is common a s a group, but it's more usual to be A+
