I'm an Anthropology/Archaeology major at Rutgers University.
(This thread started because I heard Yvonne shares my archaology interest and Rochelle shares my anthropology interest- anyone else an A/A?)
I just finished my Master's in early childhood education.
According to my fortune cookie (which says "You will complete your goal in 2 months!") I am going to sucessfully graduate with my degree in Computer Science on May 5th.
That's the theory, anyway. ;)
I'm finishing my GE's now (I'll be done with them this semester. Yay!). Then I'll probably be going into Business. The classes will be hard, but to have fun and keep my sanity, I'll take some electives. The English Dept. is going to be offering a Harry Potter class next Spring, so my friend and I are going to take it together *g*
As already mentioned :) I have my B.S. In Anthropology, with dual concentrations in Cultural Anthropology and Archaeology. I'm curren;ty halfway through my Masters of Library and Information Science.
One of my olderst friends is a professor of Cultural Anthropology at a school in PA. Those of us back home loved getting e-mails from her hubby who followed her around the world, recounting their travels.
I got the absolute useless degree - Psychology. And I was one class away from Asian Studies with a Japanese minor.
What would I LIKE to study? oh... EVERYTHING...
And I did too! I think I took a class in just about every field at school just for fun - from Physics to Theatre to History to Geography... I took Math only cause I had to though :P And NO CHEMISTRY (though I had a bit of that in Geology...)
Woot! There's archaeologists! I swear, wherever I go, I find them. It's like a psychic skill or something.
I have a B.A. in Anthropology specializing in Archaeology with a minor in English. I am particularly facinated with pulp fiction (especially early pulp like penny dreadfuls and gothics) and working class fiction, as well as early agriculture and subsistence strategies. Throw in gender (which I don't know enough about) and I'm in heaven. :)

I'm just past the halfway mark toward getting my associates degree in the performing arts with a focus on Theatre. Since it's a 2-year community college, I need to figure out where I'll be going for my BA/BFA. Rutgers is one possibility. I'm just not sure if I want to stay here in the city (NYC) or go upstate / out of state

I would like to go to Vet School and quit this whole Marketing thing in the Ag Industry I'm doing now and open my own practice someday. Large animals!
Gah, I feel so YOUNG! I'm still in High School! (ONE more year to GO! Woot!) But I'm going to major in Veterinary Science with hopefully minors in Music Theory and Paleontology. I'd much rather major in Paleontology but there's about seven jobs out there for struggling paleontologists, but everyone wants people to fix their broken animals. So vet seems like the better paying path. And I still deal with animals, just living ones instead of fossilized ones!

When I went off to school, to a college that no longer exists, it was to become a Marine Biologist, and to study Emperor Penguins.
Never did graduate (long story) and at this end of a colorful and eclectic resume I am a Senior Support tech that knows precious little about computers.
To give young Patrick some perspective, I had a friend in High School who had the ONLY calculator in the school. It added, subtracted, multiplied and divided. Thats it. It was about the size of a small paperback book, and cost over $100.
Lucky you Mikel. What an age we live in that EVERY student has at least TWO calculators and half of us have laptops! (Not me because I'm poor :()
Some students are so poor they can't even afford a calculator... I got in trouble when I took Intermediate Algebra here at Rutgers because I didn't have a scientific or graphing calculator because I'd never been able to afford one :/ I had to borrow my friend's (who is a physics major) spare scientific calculator.
I have an Associates of Science degree in Commercial Art from Hinds Community College. I was on the Deans List, graduated with high honors and got to spend 3 of my 4 semesters in the honors dorm. Which was so cool. It was like a little apartment and not a dorm room at all. Yeah, I had roommates, but that wasn't a big deal... we had free cable, a full sized fridge, a stove and microwave, a living room and dining area as well as the bedrooms. I loved living on campus.
I wanna go back to school some day.
if you want advice or have questions, Patrick, i've been working as a Vet Tech for 3 years now and can give you all kinds of insight. Its my part time, fun job to take me away from the stress of corporate marketing. its a wonderful field though :) And Animal Science in college as a major ROCKED.
Mikel, you're not that much older than alot of us! We understand :P I didn't have a calculator in high school either and I remember when the first computers came to live at school. wow, what a big deal that was!
Colleges aren't so important in this country and the terminology's different. I didn't go to university.
I'm now retired.
I sit on-line all day studying the Triad FAQ pages. Does that count?

I am so excited that I found another animal science person! :cheers: That is what I am majoring in right now... in my 3rd year. I totally love it! I don't want to be a vet though... I want to work with endangered species.
That was my original dream Anwen :) I wanted to be a wolf biologist in the WORST way. I still do. Its a VERY hard field to get into though, and you have to know someone in it. Or be so attactive they gotta have ya! I hope you succeed though, because then YOU can hire ME! LOL Animal Science is awesome; college was the BEST. Imagine! I got credit for halter breaking a colt for a show! that was like PLAY for me! LOL
And yes Mikel, I DO know what a slide-rule is! whoo hoo!
I've got a BS in Psychology from the University of Houston and am working on my special education teaching certificate.
As soon as I find a job, I can start my internship and complete my certification. The only problem is no one wants to hire someone without a certificate and I need a job to get certified.
However, I do have a long term sub job coming up with the Preschool Program for children with disabilities (PPCD) that I am excited about. I just got the call this afternoon, but can't call them back until Monday. My dream teaching job is either a PPCD class or a Life Skills/Developmental classroom. I like resource, but it's too much like regular ed for me.

Well, I was originally going to go to school and get my BS degree in Nursing...I had a full scholarship plus cash...and then I became bipolar.
I finally decided what I want to do with my life! I am going back to school in the fall to work on my degree in biology. I want to teach biology at the community college level.
Now I feel illiterate, I only have degree that equals BA in business/commercial with specialization studies in computers (mostly learning to use windows office, e-mail programs and project programs) Since it's been over ten years, my computer skills are outdated.

My school had a farm... I have discovered that I love donkeys! And lambing time is sooo much fun because all the AVS students go and play with the new lambs! :bounce:
Oh, and the farm got pigs last year! I know most people think pigs are gross and dirty... but they are actually the cleanest and smartest farm animal! And their babies are just the cutest things ever!!! :cheers:
