Title: Explain your avatar
Post by: PastMember on February 22, 2007, 08:08:09 PM
This afternoon I crafted a neat avatar to go with my Lazy Wherry title. Granted, it isn't a real Pernese wherry, but it works for me -- and he is cute too.

In adding him to my profile, it got me to thinking about the other avatars on the board. So... explain why you picked the avatar that you did, or why you aren't using one other than the rank icons.

I picked this avatar because I'm a wistful person, and I have a thing for gold and bronze dragons  :love5:

Though, I'm kinda toying with the idea of creating one from my drawing of Trae...  But for now, I'm quite content with the one I have  :)

I've been playing RPG's since college (1976), and I have always rolled best when playing dwarves.

Dwarves are hard worker, loyal, dedicated, and more than a little curmudgeony.

My Icon is a Games Workshop WarHammer dwarf that I assembled and painted all by my lonesome.  Note the mug and pipe.  The figure consists of eight pieces that you can see (and two more on the back of his belt) and stands an inch tall from the bottom of his boots to the top of the axe.

And I actually have an entire regiment of the dudes, all painted to the same scheme.

I now also use a magnifying headset.  My eyes are 49 years old, after all.

I've been through a few already (and I've only been here a little time!) but the current one is Daja, Tamora Pierce's smith girl from her Circle of Magic series.  I 'borrowed' it from LJ-land but there's one of Tris around somewhere that I'll probably move on to soon.

Or the pink flamingos.  They have a smith-link too.  (Donna Andrews' blacksmith sleuth, Meg Langslow.)

I decided I needed an avatar too.

It is a rendering of what I would look like if I were a character in South Park.

My current avatar needs no explaination. :D

I also like my Firefly/Serenity "Let's Be Bad Guys" icon. When I'm plotting evil plots, I sometimes switch back to that one. ;)

I picked mine because I like the look of her. She looks kind of the way I'd like to look (no, I do not in any way shape or form resemble her in real life) and I thought it would be nice to have a face to stand for me.

I picked mine for several reasons.  It just kinda fits everything...

The little devil part should be self-explanatory.  It suites my Triad reputation of being evil, though why some call me evil I will never know...  I figure its just meant to be ironic...

And the basketball is good because I'm basketball shapped (not to meantion that I love playing/watching sports including basketball).

It's also the mascot of our local Japanese Professional Basketball League team, the Oita Heat Devils.

The curmudgeon-ly one I posted for you a few nights ago was a South Park creation (probably from the same site as Amanda's.

Well, I've always liked llamas and on another site am known as "Falling Llama." Friends tend to send me llama related things (I've received various stuffed animals, finger puppets, earrings, pendants, calendars) from around the world. However, this particular one is a photo I took myself. I stopped roadside to see 3 llamas, took some pictures of them, and this one was annoyed because I wouldn't step closer to pet him or feed him (there was an electric fence) and spit at me.

I LOVE those books.  Favorite series by her.  And Tris is my favorite by far.  Redheads for life!

I picked that one when Kouna got approved because then I had a dolphineer and didn't feel weird using it.  Also I thought Cali did a great job on it.

I have plans for another one I just can't seem to draw it out the way I want to!  Curse you creativity block!  Cuuuuuuurrrrrrrsssssseeeeeeee Yooooouuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!1111oneoneone111!

No reason. It just appealed to me. Maybe the dorky archaeologist side. I don't know who its a drawing of, but I love the style and it reminds me of a classical muse.

When I was a little kid, my mom and dad took me to the zoo. I mean a little kid... probably 3ish, cause it was before my sister was born. Anyway, we went to see the llamas and one of the spit on me. According to my mom, I called it a 'bad doggy!'

Mine is Squall, from Final Fantasy 8. I was replaying the game and remembered how much I loved it. This is right before the dance scene, which  is my favorite video game scene.

Can I have avatar of Sawyer (without shirt)?

Sawyer has unfortunate shoulders. I advise that he keep his shirt on in order to distract from this fact. ;)

He doesn't have to button it up, though! I'll give him that.

Who is Sawyer?

On Lost. The super seksay con artist who's in love with Kate (and who Kate loves, even if he thinks she actually loves Jack. It's not true Sawyer! She loves YOU!!!).

That Sawyer.

I don't know Bree's definition, but to me they slope oddly and are bony-looking. His arms aren't bad, but his shoulders ruin the effect.

QuoteEimi! Come on now... Some of us think Sawyer's hott

I am very proud of the fact that I was able to convert a supposed true believer...  My friend Dani was going on and on about how sexy Sawyer was the other day at the bar and I asked "Really?  You think so?  Why?"  "Becuase he's got that rugged manly look to him."  And I replied, "Yes, but its not the mountain man kind of rugged, its more the homeless man who hadn't showered in days kind of rugged."  And she thought about it a moment and said, "Yeah, I guess he does look a bit greasy.  But his BODY!  Oh my god!"  And I said, "You think so?  I don't know.  I like my guys with nice strong broad shoulders.  I'm a shoulder girl."  "Yeah, me too.  Nice strong shoulders, there's nothing better."  And then I said, "Yeah, Sawyer reminds me of a house.  He's got shoulder's like a sloped roof and straight sides." Dani thought about it a moment and said, "Yeah, I guess he kind does, doesn't he.  Yeah, I see what you mean.  Hmmm... Maybe he really isn't that hot after all."  And I felt vindicated in my belief that Sayid is the only hot man on that show.

Well, I say to each their own.

And I'm attracted Sawyer for his rugged looks and bad boy image, I'm not gonna lie.  But what I love the most about him is the complexity of his character.  They've developed him so well on that show--the con artist has layers that intrigue me  :love5:

Don't tell Eimi... but if she managed to convert them, they were never a true believer. :D

Now I am a true believer... so I think it's time to go change my avatar to something else I believe in fully: how much I love Helo from BSG.

Title:
Post by: Bree on February 26, 2007, 06:41:36 PM
Well, people have been saying that since the first episode. ;) Someone always thinks every show is jumping the shark!

Especially the show Shark, which sorta jumped it right out the gate but has sorta wobbled to a landing on the other side. Maybe. ;) In my opinion, at least!
Title:
Post by: Eimi on February 26, 2007, 07:03:12 PM
There's a show called Shark?

But, no, I read it on CNN the other day... about how the ratings for the season opener were hopeful but that the viewship is dropping because people think its too unsatisfying and confusing now...  I don't know, I only watched the first season....
Title:
Post by: Dana on February 26, 2007, 07:05:27 PM
The people who dropped are probably too impatient.  You have to have patience when watching the show.  You have to take things as they come--that's part of the fun of it all  :)

I keep wondering... why Jack doesn't take off his shirt. In the episode where the Desmond's boat appeared, Sayid and Saweyr both pulled off shirts to swim to the boat but Jack swam shirt on? What he's hiding?

I could use icon of Sayid too.
