Title: American Idol
Post by: PastMember on February 20, 2007, 06:59:58 PM
Who watched it tonight?

The top 12 guys sang, what do you all think of the singers? I think that the best guy was number 9, Chris S. The chubby guy with the curly hair and funny sense of humor. I voted for him. I also liked Rudy, the other Chris, Nick, Blake, and really liked AJ and Phil.

The second singer, who's name I didn't even bother writing down... I hope he's the one that gets dropped.

I don't bother to vote until they're a little further along and have managed to sort themselves out a bit. Though some of them had ok voices, I felt that few of them had much stage presence tonight.

Including being judgmental.

Usually I don't either - in fact, this is the first season I've decided I'm gonna vote each night.

I apologize if this was taken as judgemental or offensive. Not my intent. Simply expressing my opinion of the show, just like everybody else has the right to. Why don't people in general assume the best, not the worst?

I don't like the show either.  I think we should form a anti-cry baby story but oh so pretty thread :D

Yo! Chill it out, my friends, or you'll get spanked.

And not the good kind of spankings, either.

No one wants to make Bree testy when she spent 16 hours in a computer lab yesterday, do they?

Make nice or I'll make my scary face.

Cali, that was a general reply to everyone, not a specific reply to you. I just didn't get in there earlier because of the afore mentioned 16 hours in the lab yesterday. ;)

Just remember the board motto: Fun will be had by all... or else.

I don't like American Idol, myself.

Then again, I generally don't like anything not-science-fiction, so, bias.

American Idol and Deal or No Deal are my reality tv guilty pleasures. Especially American Idol. I'll catch The Apprentice every now and then too... but AI and DoND are the ones I actually look forward to and AI is the one I keep up with regularly.

I can not speak without bias on American Idol, as I can't. freaking. escape. it.

I get that Birmingham is proud that 2 winners and 1 runner up have been from here, but when Taylor Hicks leads the news every night followed by, "And coming up after the break, seven churches have burned down in a mysterious ongoing arson case..."

 :datz:

Prioritize, people!

If none of the finalists are from Alabama this time around, maybe I can relax. ;)

I have never actually seen American Idol...

When I did a semester in Ireland though, we watched the European version of it. I think it was called "Euro Star." In any case, it was lots of fun. Everyone thinks Simon is mean (strangly enough the same judges do the European version... how do they have enough time for both?) but I think he is awesome!

Oh I know! I love Simon! He just tells it like it is, is all. And actually, especially in the eps where the really awful folks who think they can sing audition, the 'meaner' he is, the more I laugh. Maybe I'm mean too. lol

I am sure that if he said such things to me in real life I would probably cry. However, I would never audition for Idol because I know I can't sing! So therefor, I can laugh at his somewhat mean honesty.  :bounce:

I have to admit, I only ever watched the first couple weeks when everyone was horrible.  When they actually start getting good is when I totally lose interest.  The first couple weeks is like a train wreck though.  You really can't stop watching even though you know you should.  Its wrong to take that much pleasure in another's pain (except on Triad... Here I just revel in delicious evilness  :evil2: )

I think it mostly doesn't interest me because it seems like the same singers every time over and over.  And I always figured if they were really that good, they should have a record deal already.

But, I have come to really like Kelly Clarkston.  Her music wasn't at all like I thought it would be.

Which went country after Idol?
Title:
Post by: Eimi on February 21, 2007, 05:38:13 PM
Well, there are a few country singers I can listen to (I actually really like the Dixie Chicks for the most part) but yeah, after living in Nevada for a year, most country just makes me cringe.

Though I actually do enjoy a good rodeo... Comes from going to university in a town that hosted the very first professional bullriding competition (as in Bullriding only, not just a rodeo).

So... The guys sang again last night....

Anyone else find it odd that that one dude dedicated his performance to his mom and dad and than sang Marvin Gay's "Let's Get It On"?

Actually, several of the guys are disturbing.

But I still like the show.

Ok... watching the ep where they send folks home... and let me just say that AJ was robbed! Sanjaiya (however you spell his name! lol ) should have been booted, not him. The kid is cute and all, but he's just too damned shy and sang his entire song like he was scared the mic was gonna bite him.

Robbed!

Tonight's show was pretty bad. About half of them deserve to be eliminated if we're basing it just on tonight's show.

Of course, Sanjaya was the worst of the lot.

She really is a great singer!  It's really between her and LaKisha.  But the last girl who sang tonight...Jordan?  I think that's her name.  She did a really good job on The Land Before Time song.  I grew up with that movie (and song!) and I loved how she sang it.  :)

I knew Sanjaya would be because I was sure that Brandon or Hailey would go home. I mean, they BOTH forgot their words. But he better throw something down next week cause whatever wave he's riding on is gonna crash eventually.

A friend of mine thinks he's TRYING to go home... singing badly on purpose (because, his audition was actually good) cause he's homesick or something. But for some reason, people keep voting for him so he manages to squeak through. He didn't seem enthused to be remaining last night.

Maybe next week he'll say "What the hell." and give up sabotageing himself and just wow us.

One can hope anyway....

Did you happen to catch the theme for next week? I missed it!

Stephanie should still be in the running and she went a few weeks ago.

And that talentless twerp remains -- even though his hair wasn't even interesting this week and his unshaved face just looked dirty.
Title:

Hailey and her legs left this week. For once the bottom three was correct -- Senjaya wasn't in it but he actually sounded better than the other three and now has his other category of "It doesn't matter who is in the bottom three -- he just needs to go!"

And I know, Amanda and I are the only ones who actually read and comment here because we are the only ones who will admit to watching. But this is a reminder that when it gets to the finals and you really want to comment, just sign onto AIM and you can snark away with the two of us.

Jordin and Chris were the worst last night -- really not very good.

However, it's anyone's guess who will be sent home because the counts will be combined with last week's.
Of course, were the final two of last week the real final two? That would be Jordin and Chris.

And Simon was right about Blake: people will either love it or hate it.
To me --  :2thumbs:

Last night's Idol was nifty. Now, I don't like Idol and I think I may have said this. But I'm a huge Bee Gees fan, and Eric's mum knows that. Well, she called me down and said "hey, Barry Gibb is going to be singing!" So I watched it. And WOW, I can't believe he's that old and can STILL sing that amazingly.

I felt a bit sad that Melinda was eliminated, because she really was the most solid performer.
However, this week all 3 did extremely well, so it was a difficult call.

And of course, I've yet to vote.
This week I'll have to do so!
