I'd like everyone to try and see if they can guess which day all these returning members came back...

:D
I love to see more activity, folks! Cheers!
WHoo hoo! We're just bursting with activity! I love it!!!
uhm, gee, I can't tell
:opa:
Wow... I love it :D
That's awesome :)
Of course, it might have just been me looking at my marks ... and then checking again ... and again.
Or the big and very welcome influx of members. Yeah, it might have been that.

Yeah! Jane and her marks! Thats it!
Don't forget -- snow hit the east coast and I was off work and able to lurk more actively.
Yup no snow equals a LOT of Computer time for Patrick! But thats so cool to see people active on the site! YAY!
I have no problem being one of the ones behind that spike, but 38,578 hits in one day seems like a heck of a lot for just returning members. It reminds me of this one spider that hammered my website over the course of an hour to the point of getting the site suspended for too much CPU usage:
User agent: hl_ftien_spider_v1.1
IP numbers: 60.28.10.189 & 60.28.10.190
It's a nasty little spider that ignores the robots file. I ended up blocking its IP numbers from my site.
It's actually the forums. And the high spike in hits has a bit to do with the many, many, MANY tiny emoticons everyone is suddenly loading every time they want to post. ;) Luckily, those don't take up TOO much bandwidth!
However, 25% of the site's transfer and a comparative number of hits come from viewtopic.php in the forums. :D

Not returning members at all, but returning smileys!
No wonder the spike dropped off. Most of us seem to have settled for one or two ... I notice Mikel and I have settled for ones that serve as signatures.
:computer:
I still want the penguins! :geek:

I be Lovin' my Opa
:opa:
I've found my favorite too: :aufsmaul: And I even added the code to the signature section of my profile. I'm suddenly feeling very geeky. :drunken:
I find the sheer numbers of smilies to be daunting.
And I can't type in something hoping for the correct one and then edit, because Bree has loaded in German codes. Even those I see and think I might like, I hover over them and read the title and wonder "is this the mood I really want to convey????"

That's easy. This one: :lurk:
Like this?

That might be what you're trying to convey, but I'm still having trouble beleiving it.
But why? :angel13:
