I thought it might be kind of neat to share whatever we're listening to at the moment. Like a song, or tv show in the backkground, or if you're at work, is someone telling an inappropriate joke nearby? Or is it all quiet and so the voice in your head that you've named Bob, who tries to convince you that no one will notice if you burned the office down, is all you can hear.
:blob6:
Right now, I'm listening to "O Valencia!" by The Decemberists on XM Radio. I really like this song!
The sounds of folks on phones, the occasional keyboard chatter and the printers in the Bulk Lable room pouring out hundreds and hundred of lables.
Battlestar Galactica on my DVD player
... Bloodhound Gang's Discovery Channel Song?
*hides*
Quote from: "Bree"... Bloodhound Gang's Discovery Channel Song?

OMG! I LOVE that song!!! LOL If it's the one I'm thinking of:
QuoteYou and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals
So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel
That's an awesome song! lol
I have the cash register sound for arriving e-mail. That goes off occasionally but ontherwise it's completely silent here - just the way I like it.
:computer:
Quote from: "Amanda"OMG! I LOVE that song!!! LOL If it's the one I'm thinking of
It is indeed!
Only now my playlist has moved on to Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus" ;)
My "coding" playlist is a bit odd, I admit. :D
I listen to XM Radio while I work... right now, "The Power of Equality" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers is on.
I've got the station set to XM Ethel. Earlier, I had it on XM Comedy and was cracking up my IT guys cause I'd bust out laughing at the comedians now and then. *G*
And now, it's "Smiley Faces" by Gnarls Barkley
My roommate's playing something random in Spanish.
Me, I'm listening to the Bee Gees' "One Night Only" album. I adore the version of "Nights on Broadway" but it's not even a minute and a half :(
There's a biography of Val Kilmer of all things on the History Channel right now and... darn.... there goes my cellphone alarm... Do I really have to go to work?
Quick! Someone call a bomb threat in on my school!!!

He's historically gorgeous, does that count?
And I've got "Gravity" by John Mayer playing right now. (he's pretty historically gorgeous too :anmachen: )
Quote from: "Amanda"He's historically gorgeous, does that count?

We have a lot of smilies, but none of them really look confused or say Huh? or anything, so I'll have to settle for this rather pedestrian expression of my confusion:
Oh, and right now, I'm listening to "Wolf Like Me" by TV On The Radio.
You know I make extra cash as a Local Roadie.
He was in town last week, and I got to do the Load Out. Must bands have meals for whoever works the In and Out, as well as coffee, donuts and T-shirts.
Mr Mayer had bottled water.
Even Rascal Flatts, who banished us to the loading dock while on stage gave us T-shirts
I'm listening to the local news -- waiting for word of tomorrow's school closings.
QuoteMikel (5:07:51 PM): how dare to make imaginary confused faces at me
Me (5:07:58 PM): lol
Me (5:08:15 PM): how do you dare to inspire imaginary confused faces
Me (5:08:16 PM): lol
Mikel (5:08:45 PM): what? I made a simple factual declaration
Me (5:08:55 PM): with no context or background info!
Mikel (5:09:53 PM): nor was one needed. He did not supply me with coffee, donuts and a T-shirt
Me (5:12:38 PM): one was definetly needed. First off, my post discussed two gentlemen... 'he' could have been referring to either. Secondly, I hadn't even known you'd roadied for John Mayer in the first place. I'd have remembered if you'd told me cause that would have been someone I'd actually listen to - and all the ones you tell me about are people I might actually cross a street to get away from the sound of.
Me (5:13:18 PM): LOL, me too, unless they pay me $10/hr to listen to them
And now, I'm listening to "Skin and Bones" by Foo Fighters - I love this song!
I dislike country, though it was nice meeting Tim McGraw, I was a big fan of his dad.
The sound of a mostly empty office, and the fish tank on my desk
I'm listening to my playlist full of love songs in the spirit of Valentine's Day. Right now it's "Angels" by Jessica Simpson. Next it's "Possession" by Sarah McLachlan :love5:
At the moment I am listening to the fan (which is the only thing that's going to be blowing in my ear tonight *grumble*), the bubbling of the fish tank's filter, and the tinny sound of the dogs knocking their dishs around as they eat. A little bit earlier I was listening to some show tunes on iTunes.
:drunken: I live a boring life. Thank Faranth for Pern.
At the moment there is the TV playing in the background.
I just finished watching Bones and now I'm watching Lost - except it's a commercial cause if Lost were really on I wouldn't be typing this! lol
Well, thank you to however called my school with the bomb threat... Unforutnately I forgot we had a field trip today :geek:
Bomb threat! Thats not a laughing matter. Last year my school had three bomb threats in a row and we had to go outside and sit in the football field bleachers for three hours. And the first time they told us it was a fire drill so half of us (myself included) didn't bring jackets and things because we figured we'd only be outside for a minute or two. And it was November! Not fun.
And I'm listening to the weather because I was watching for school closings. (two hour delay which is another thing that makes no sense but anyways.)
Man, I remember being a kid - I used to pray for bomb threats. They were great! You got to just hang out with your friends outside and there was always the unlikely but possible chance the school might actually blow up.
Listening to "Now It's On" by Grandaddy
Mikel I am officially extremely jealous of you! You've met John Mayer, Rascal Flatts and Tim McGraw? I am totally in love with Tim (damn Faith!) and once John gets rid of Jessica then I'm totally available! :bounce:
uhm, also The Rolling Stones, George Straight, and Gretchen Wilson.
Not bad for a boy who doesn't like country.
Tim and Faith's show is packed into 10 busses and 29 tractor trailers, though one holds only motorcycles
I am now listening to BBD's "Poison" :D
Nickleback's "Saving Me" is next up on the list! Woohoo!
In fact, just for you, Amanda... I will share my "Guilty Pleasures" playlist screenshot I took for someone the other day... ;)

Hehehe! Neat! I don't have a playlist to take a shot of, cause it's sattelite radio and all. I've got downloaded music at home, but that's at home. *G*
I like a whole lot of the songs in your list btw!
Right now, I'm listening to "Naive" by The Kooks
I've been listening to alot fo The Killers lately, as well as some of my MXPX and They Might Be Giants cd's.
Quote from: "Amanda"Man, I remember being a kid - I used to pray for bomb threats. They were great! You got to just hang out with your friends outside and there was always the unlikely but possible chance the school might actually blow up.
Its not so great when all your stuff is inside and your praying the school won't explode since your parents just bought you a brand new clarinet.
I'm listening to "Humdrum' by The Corrs. My favorite band. Splee!
Oh, I just love this song: "Finding Out True Love Is Blind" by Louis XIV and I'm listening to it right now.
And how do we not have a danceing smiley? We've got smilies having sex... but none boogying.

Well, I don't think they have bomb threats in Japan, and unfortunately I've found it very hard to call in a typhoon or an earthquake threat. For some reason they just never buy it... Besides, half the time where there's a typhoon we still have school anyway :geek:

So, if someone calls the school and says there's a bomb in the school, they just let the kids stay in their classes and maybe get blown up?
QuoteSo, if someone calls the school and says there's a bomb in the school, they just let the kids stay in their classes and maybe get blown up?
Oh no, but, this is Japan. They'd have to follow proceedures. There are no set proceedures for a bomb threat as yet. So they will probably have to have a meeting with the teachers to discuss the threat, then they would have to contact the prefectual office to ask what they will need to do, at which time THEY would have a meeting to discuss it, they'd have to wait for the reporters of course and pose for pictures, then they will have to call the PTA to inform them of why they will be taking their children out of the school. Then they will need to draft a memo to all the teachers and have a meeting to discuss exactly what the prefectural office has decided. Of course, there will be paper work that will have to be submitted and the principle and vice-principle would need to put their official seals to it. The homeroom teachers will need to draft a memo to all the students parents explaining in detail why it is unavoidable and therefore they apologize that they will not be able to teach their children during the time of the bomb threat, but assure them that they will have Saturday or Sunday classes to make up for it. Then they will have the practice drill in which they explain in minute detail to the students exactly what is to be done in the event of a bomb in the building. While they are doing that, they will have to find a unique sound that can be the alarm for a bomb and record a woman's voice sweetly saying in Japanese "The building is about to explode. Please evacuate if you would be so kind." Letters to the neighbors apologizing for the inconvenience this will pose to them, both for the noise and traffic problems, will have to be drafted. The teachers will have to dig out their official school hats so that everyone will know they are part of the school and they would also need to find the neon green crossing guard flags to help the children cross the street safely. They would then have to practice the drill once and return to the students to their seats so they could have the ACTUAL evacuation of the building, probably following an opening ceremony in which the principle and one of the students give speeches. Then they will wait for the police to show up, though that might take a while since they have never seen a bomb, wouldn't know what to do with a bomb, and the one and only bomb squad in the prefecture is probably stuck at every red light since in Japan even the police must follow traffic rules.
Wow....
Wow am I glad I don't live in Japan, I probably would have punched someone in the face waiting for people to actually DO something about the bomb. And Police officers following traffic rules? Thats a new one. And I can't believe Japan has never had a bomb threat, your all such a technologically advanced country, and you don't have BOMB Threats? Thats odd.
No, unfortunately the violence in Japanese schools tends to be much more malicious and twisted and usually directed at one person, not the school as a whole.
But, yeah, Japanese police... hmmm... They're GREAT and giving directions... Not much use pretty much anywhere else. I remember reading in the newspaper once about a car-jacking, or a kidnapping, and the police where persuing the car they were in, and the car stopped for a red light and police car stopped right behind them, and the policeman got out of their car and walked up to knock on the window to ask them to surrender and much to their great (though I personally think misplaced) surprise, the perps hit the gas and ran the light.
One night my friends were having a great time watching a motorcycle gang in their town race their bikes down the street at 3am. Of course it was deserted so the gang would speed down these streets. The police started to chase them, but could never seem to catch up to them, since they had to stop at every red light.
But even closer to me, one my best friends woke up to find a man with a knife in her room. Instead of panicing, she very calmly asked the man what he was doing, and why, and God bless her, she talked the guy into leaving her apartment without any incident. Of course she was shaken and went directly to the police and they listen to her story and they nodded and said, "Boy are you lucky." And that was the end of their investigation into the matter. Needless to say she moved very soon after.
Yeah... I don't have much faith in the Japanese Police...
Right now, Passions is playing on the tv. Yeah I watch that when I'm home on weekdays. What? ;)
I can't hear about Passions without thinking about Spike from BtVS. I just can't! lol
Right now "Strange" by Built to Spill is playing and over that I can hear the sound of IT guys chattering amongst themselves over some sort of server issue.
Now I'm REALLY glad I don't live in Japan. Glad your friend wasn't hurt no matter how long ago that was, Eimi. I would move away fast too if that had happened to me.
Well, that happened in Tokyo. Tokyo really isn't Japan ;)
Luckily most people never have any cause to call the police since crime really is rare. Heck, I only lock the door half the time when I leave my house and I've never had a problem! That makes it easy to sit back and laugh at the police.
(Though I shouldn't laugh too much since some of my good friends grew up to be police women :ducken: )

Don't worry officer, you're not in Japan ;)
Woo! The Decemberists ... gotta love them. Good taste on that one, Amanda! Although 'O Valencia' isn't one of my favourites from 'The Crane Wife'. And I am SO EXCITED to go see them at Coachella (in California).
I am currently listening to 'Wonderwall' by Oasis.

I listen to Sirius Satellite when I'm at work... and Rush Limbaugh. HA!
Boo on XM :P
I am very jealous of you Mikel! I'm an avid country music fan!
Right now its "Ladies Love Country Boys" - Trace Adkins... yee haw ! :help:
....Yes, run away from the Christian Conservative Country lovin girl from the South..... :spam1:
I'm not going to run, Clancey lady :)
Right now, I'm listening to "Before the Dawn" by Amy Lee from Evanescence
I'm listening to "Bury Me With It" by Modest Mouse right now.
And I promise Clancey, I won't run... I can't ever promise not to say something you might find potentially offensive, but know now, ahead of time, that it's not personal to you and I'll accept that any Christian Conservative viewpoints that you bring up that bother me are likewise, not personally directed.
Now I'm listening to "Let It Rain" by Silent Iris. Bree gave it to me and I love it. :love5: Although I've had it stuck in my head for two days now and at some point I'm going to get sick of it. ;)
I just got home and figured I'd queue up 50 random songs from my library.
So now I'm listening to "Sweet Home Alabama" :D
"Give me a Reason" by the Corrs. Nothin special. (in case anyone HASN'T noticed, I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with the Corrs. :notworthy: ;))I'm really starting to NOT like that santa hat. Can't we have ONE normal smilie?
Right now I'm listening to "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service
And yeah... I don't think we have a plain ol winking smiley - even amongst the green ones.
And now "Beercan" by Beck is playing.
I need to do something about my listening choices. . . I was listening to the evening news but that ended, so now my background noise is Wheel of Fortune.
I was downloading a bunch of songs from the Billboard Top 100 this morning cause I'm making a CD of American music for the winner of a poety contest. After so much sugary pop I had to listen to "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance twice to get the taste out of my mouth XD
I am in a computer lab, trying but failing miserably at writing a paper that is due tomorrow. Pretty much the only sound is that horribly annoying noise made by many computers all in the same room. I am about ready to bang my head against a wall!!! :datz:
I am at my desk at work, awaiting my ride.
The only sound is the filter on my fish tank, and my fingers on the keyboard.

Same here -- both parts of Amanda's message.
I really need to download some music, haven't done so for about a year and my music collection is sadly lacking.
Yeah, actually this is the first time I've downloaded music since I came to Japan so my old computer had tons of very outdated songs XD

That's a good song. :) I like "Dead!", "I Don't Love You" and "House of Wolves" better, though. All from the same album.
Hmm. The parakeets chirping in the background, the neighbor's dog barking through an open window, and Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind. The last song was The Man who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo (From an album of ninteenth century favorites), the next one is I Love My Chili Bom Bom (a digitally reffreshed copy of the 1925 rendition), and after that is Bon Jovi's You give Love a Bad Name.
I'm mildly ecclectic in my interests.
I am at work and the only thing I hear is the fax machine and my fan blowing.
I'm listening to the guilty pleasure of country music before my fiance hauls himself out of bed. He hates the stuff, so I have to sneak in my listening! Currently, old school Garth Brooks. Whatever happened to him?

We could always do the LLAMA SONG! Vix would like that. :D
I love the Llama song! All I ever remember is "llama, llama, DUCK!" Gret now its stuck in my head.
The Llama Song is definitely on my top ten list.
Thank god I am out of main stream American culture and I can live in blissful ignorance of both the hamster song and the lama song. Numa Numa, unfortunately, I know way too well since there is also a Japanese version.
MUST... RESIST... JPOP...
(although the video is very cute XD)
I would not call the Llama song American culture so much as internet culture!
Same with the Hamster Dance, though that has been around on the internet FOR-EVER! We used to love it back in the mid 90's!
Honey, internet culture IS becoming American culture... Its not just a haven for geeks anymore ;)
I'm listening to "Let's Go Get Stoned" by Sublime right now.

Right now it's "Fuzzy" by The Incredible Moses Leroy
And it's so heartbreakingly pretty outside! It makes my soul cry to be in this office! lol
Don't feel bad Mikel, I only knew 16 of them...
Woohoo!

I don't have any of those three in my itunes, but I've heard them all before. I think the most promiscuous song I have is "Promiscuous Girl" by Nelly Furtado

QuoteAnd on a completely unrelated note... yay for remembering my coffee pot finally! Now I can enjoy my yummy, expensive coffees here at work! (I couldn't just brew em in the communal pots cause I'm the only one who likes them!!) Mmmm
One of my teachers bought be a starbucks filter brewer type thing. You just stick the filter over a pot even just over a cup, put the amount of coffee grounds you want depending on how strong you like it, pour hot water in and when all the water has drained through there ya go!
It's so BEAUTIFUL!!!
Do they have those in the states? Those are big here in Japan... Course in Japan they don't really have real coffee makers... At least not the way we have back in the states.
I've had one (on and off) for years.
A truly wonderous invention
You mean just the mini filter holders that stick on top of a mug? Those are fairly common, aren't they?
My mom had one ever since I could remember. You just stick a filter in it, do your coffee, then dump it out and hand it to the next person. :D My family needed it because no one drank the same type of coffee.

Well, see, I've got this nifty coffee maker with a handy timer and everything which means that every morning now I can have coffee waiting on me when I get to the office. I just haven't been able to cause I kept forgetting the pot at home! lol
There are three makers in the office (including mine). One in the other side of the office where the Pres., VP, and AEs all sit. One on this side of the office in the IT guys' office. And mine. The IT pot is gross. The boys NEVER clean it. The Other Side pot is too far away. I've been getting coffee there, but now I don't have to, cause I can use my own now.
"The War" by Angels & Airwaves is playing at the moment. :)
Quote from: "Amanda"The Other Side pot is too far away.
How big is your office?
One of the nice things here is that you are never more than about 50-feet from a break room with two pots of coffee, one of decaf and 22 different kinds of tea.

50 feet is too far to have to walk for coffee.
But our office is shaped like a v on it's side. I sit at the end of one arm of the v and the other coffee pot is at the other. I have to go all the way around.
And right now "Youth Against Facism" by Sonic Youth is on.

TUNNEL THROUGH, AMANDA!
Gosh, I'm a bad influence.
I'm listening to Nickelback's "Savin' Me" and I could listen to it ON REPEAT FOREVER! :D
And not just because of the good associations from when I was watching the BSG Season 3 trailer over and over like an insane person.
Mostly. ;)
I'm listening to Utada Hikaru and Kiroro this week.
I'm listening to American Idol at the moment.
And no need to tunnel! I've got my own pot right at my desk now! lol

YAY NICKELBACK!!!
Currently, idiot dogs barking and Nickelback's Next Contestant.
QuoteI'm listening to Utada Hikaru and Kiroro this week.
You know, Utada Hikaru's first album was the first Japanese CD I ever owned. Did you know she studied at Columbia University? That's why her English is so good XD

NOW!
Breaking Benjamin - The Diary of Jane
And before Nickelback...
Rammstein - Du Hast
I am too old for this planet
Quote from: "Heather"Breaking Benjamin - The Diary of Jane
Rammstein - Du Hast
I've never heard of these two, and I lived with her for three years.
But this reminds me, I found three of your CD's Heather.

I was introduced to Breaking Benjamin by my exroomie. You wouldn't like Rammstein, so I never played it for you.
What CDs?
"Du Hast" was really popular when I came home from Austria, so everyone was asking me what it meant ALL THE TIME!
The answer was always very confusing because it's a play on words. ;)
The song sorta grew on me after a while. :D
I'm in class listening to lecture and I want to get out of here please.
I'm listening to my husband talk baby talk to the cute little one year old neice. He got out of work early because of the bad weather, and Katie-Belle is very happy to have her Uncle home to play with her. :p
Quote from: "Bree"I'm listening to my husband talk baby talk to the cute little one year old neice.
Is this the niece with THE HAIR?
Right now, I'm listinging to "No Rain" by Blind Melon
A moment ago though I was listening to Shinedown's "I Dare You" and was struck once again, as I was the first time and every time since I've heard it, by the fact that it totally should be Harry Potter's themesong during the 5th book.
What?
I'm listening to episode 1 season 2 of Grey's Anatomy. I have an hour off work (evening event for our class) and my new DVDs arrived a little while ago.
Listening to, and watching, Pirates of the Caribbean: Black Pearl.
Home ill today
I'm mostly listening finnish metall
My MP-player currently holds: Amorphis, Sonata Arctica, The Rasmus and :cough: Status Quo.
Nothing wrong with the 'Quo. I can play 3 chords on y guitar - there for 'Quo songs are possible!!!
Right now, I'm listening to "Maps" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol
Screaming 3rd year teachers... The results from the graduated students university entrance exams are coming in and every time they hear of one of their students passing the exams at a good school there's a loud cheer coming up from that side of the room. Though I'm happy for them, it sure isn't helping my headache ;)
I'm sorry you have a headache, Eimi.
I'm listening to Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right"
OMG! So am I! hehehehe
It's 8 p.m. EST and I'll bet that right now Amanda and I are listening to exactly the same thing.
Quote from: "Eimi"OMG! So am I! hehehehe

Jamie and Adam on Mythbusters
What are they proving this evening, Mikel? :D
I'm listening to "Karma Slave" which is one of my faves. :D But it's about to change songs...
... and now I'm listening to "Past the Point of No Return" from Phantom of the Opera. Woohoo!

Anti-speed camera techinques (you know those camera's in intersections that snap your tags if you speed).
And will Defibrillators make nitro pacthes go, well... Nitro
You know, we created the Mythbusters experiment with the diet coke and mentos in my bathroom last year. Unfortunately would could only fine 1.5 liter bottles in Japan and the mix is a little different, so though we got a pretty respectful spray (and my bathroom smelled like Diet Coke for days) it wasn't nearly as volcanic as we had hoped for.
Colin Mocary say "CRAP!" on Who's Line is it Anyway
Right now the heater in the computer room on campus is making a whole lot of noise... me and the other girl in here are wondering if it is about to explode!
Quote from: "Mikel"Colin Mocary say "CRAP!" on Who's Line is it Anyway
After reading that comment I had to go to albinoblacksheep to watch some animutation.
Right now, I'm watching (and listening to! cause the sound's on!) a man in a kilt playing Deal or No Deal. He's bald like Howie but he's a body-builder so it's like a GIANT version of Howie in a kilt. Kind of funny really.
The final clock tics on 24

Whichever composer it is that the Little Einsteins have this episode, sounds like one of the Army marches. I'm just no good with classical music....
Cailee's watching the show in the lounge....

I'm watching an episode of "Dark Angel" my friend brought over today. I think this show might be a little cheesy, but hey. Give me a post-apocalypse scenario and a chick with super powers, and I'll watch ANYTHING. :D

Haven't seen that show in years. If its the one I Was thinking of? Jessica Alba?
Yep! I think it only lasted a couple seasons, if that. She's such a cutie with her brown hair, man! Why'd she go all blonde??
Quote from: "Bree"Why'd she go all blonde??
One word - Hollywood
(blonde's have more chance of getting a role/roll)

Yeah, she's not bad...
No, I'm sad that hollywood is making people go blonde! How depressing!
Now I'm listening to Nine Inch Nails. :D "Closer"
Well, her character in Fantastic 4 has to be blond... she was blond in the comic. So... it's probably easier for her to just stay blond than to go back and forth.
But then I don't have anything against any particular hair color. *G*
And right now I'm listening to "White Shadows" by Coldplay.
I'm listening to a coworker shouting, "Chick-Chick-Chickie!" It has something to do with a game she was playing with a baby earlier and somehow she can't stop it.
I work with some strange people.

I am listening to what sounds like my husband watching American Idol. I am depressed by this. Which one of you got to him???

We can't blame Mikel for this one, so it must have been Amanda.
I'm listening to "The Adventure" by Angels & Airwaves right now. I love this song, really.
I can not live
I can not breathe
Unless you do this with me
Here we go,
Life's waiting to begin
I'm listening to another episode of Dark Angel. :D
I am at home for string break and my mom bought these sun chimes... they are like wind chimes, but designed with a little solar panel so that you can put them in a window and they make noise inside. They are very loud!!!
Ah, the soundtrack from Cirque du Soleil's "Quidam".
Not quite as good as "Alegria", but it has several really good songs!
I'm listening to Amanda Marshall's "Shades of Grey"
And the wild birds eating at the bird feeder outside. They're so loud :D

I've been listening to Carbon Leaf's "What About Everything?" on continual repeat for at least 3 days now. Why? Because of this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=68JLFdu18yw) amazing Doctor Who tribute video, that's why. (I also argue that it would be an amazing song for a Desmond/Penny Lost video.)[/url]

Now I'm listening to Staind's "It's Been A While"
Right now, I'm listening to "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse and it's a really cool song.
You don't think she really does whine? *can't stand Amy Whinehouse*
I'm listening to my mom try to steal the computer.
