Title: Big Chat Thread
Post by: Bree on May 24, 2006, 03:59:18 PM
Until we get a chatroom, we can always do meeting on Chat! We used to hold huge AIM chats back in the day... no reason we can't do that (or MSN) now!

Let's see who uses what first. Though if anyone's hangin' around tonight, they can always contact me. :D

Both of the above. ^_^ Going to be on almost all the time all summer, too.

I have MSn but I don't ever use it. I have Yahoo. I can try to get my husband to set up trillian but it may not work for me.

Also, if there's something else that you use to chat, or you need help/want to set up AIM/MSN... let us know!

Yeah, I think I might have my old account that I set up for Dana back in the day.  Someone could use that (if she and I can remember the address and password....)
Title:
Post by: Bree on May 25, 2006, 11:49:33 AM
Well, it's pretty easy to set up new accounts, Eimi. :D 5 minutes or less usually, so we can get people their own if they want. ;)

In other news, my host said they'd be happy to let me install a chatroom... if I started paying them $30 more a month. While I love all of you a lot, I'm afraid we're going to have to skip that. :D
Title:
Post by: Eimi on May 25, 2006, 05:38:27 PM
Well, since neither Dana or I use it anymore someone could HAVE that account since its just sitting there unloved, is what I was saying.  But that all depends on if we can remember the address and password...

i think AIM is the best for big Chats.

I use MSN more to talk, but for big Chats, AIM is good other than the character limit.  BLEH I hate that.

the other thing is, both MSN and AIM have that software that you can use without actually downloading any software!

thats kinda cool!

Trillian also works with AIM too :)   Oh and I think MSN too right??
Title:
Post by: Bree on May 25, 2006, 07:40:18 PM
Trillian works with both, Clancey!

If you have AIM or MSN or Yahoo accounts but don't want to install the software, try Meebo! Meebo (http://www32.meebo.com/ (http://www32.meebo.com/)) is useful and fun!

Oh, and for anyone who's on a Mac- if there's anyone but me!- Adium (http://www.adiumx.com (http://www.adiumx.com)) is an excellent choice for multiple-service instant messanging!

...I sound like an ad.

lol--yeah, if any of you have had bad experiences with macs (like me), then check this video out ---> http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... +macs+suck (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6553260189868317794&q=why+macs+suck)  It's hilarious  :D  No offense, Avril!

And Eimi, I still have the random account and password  :D

Hahahaha! I haven't seen that "Why Macs Suck" thing in forever!

I will never forget the first time I tried to retrieve a zip disk from a Mac. Who decided that the INTUITIVE way to eject a disk is to drag the icon of that drive into the trash bin?!?

I understand that they're trying to keep people who aren't good with computers from accidently doing... anything... but REALLY. *cries*

Of course, if Gimp could compare to Photoshop, I wouldn't use Windows ever again, so it's not like I'm on Bill Gates' side. :D

What about a shoutbox?  I've seen this of a few other boards, but I'm not sure if's compatiable with this type of board.  It's just a place were people can say Hi and stuff when they see people logged in.

In my old club we all used AIM so this is an AIM solution.  We had a chat room running nearly all the time by not accepting the default chat room name and instead using a pre-agreed (and terribly obvious) name.  All people running AIM who knew the agreed name could then invite themselves to the chat room any time they liked. (You had to add yourself to your buddy list, but that wasn't hard.) Just select themselves and change the chat room invite to the agreed name.  People came and went all through the day, but everybody was capable of getting themselves in and out so nobody got bombarded with invites when they were busy with other things.

Post by: Bree on November 06, 2006, 05:04:15 PM
I'm actually working on a solution still. :D But in the meantime you can always send private messages through the boards if you want to get someone into chat and notice they're on.

Exciting news on the chat front, my friends! I'm currently working on and beta-testing a chat interface that will allow you to log in to the chatroom with your forum username/password! :)

I'll probably try to finish tweaking it up this weekend, and then we can chat whenever we want! ;)

Anyone who wants to try it out should go here:

http://www.triadweyrs.org/chat/

If you're not logged into the forums when you go, it will ask you to do so!

I'd like to run it for a week or so and see who has problems and what sort of problems they have. And also, what sort of affect it has on the site's bandwidth and resources. :D

If it goes well, we will make it a permenant feature!

So everyone log in so I can get an accurate idea!

QuoteHey, why are there 9,001 people on the forums and only 3 of us in chat?

I joined last week and have since become obsessed with this site. I have spent nearly the entire weekend exploring and reading and having a wonderful time. I only just found the chat room. Could there possibly be a link up where the FAQ, Search, Memberlist, Usergroups, Profile, You have no new messages, and Log out buttons are? Perhaps no one is chatting because they, don't know it's there? Just a suggestion.

QuoteI can't chat on a school comp.

FYI, I am on a company computer right now that USUALLY wont let me enter chat rooms. However, this one seems to be flying in under the radar.   If you haven't already, you may want to give it a try just to be sure.

OMG a persistent web chat for Triad?!?!!
~falls in love~
Now... heres the question, any way i can see messages past whats in the window... that would be cool... but probably takes space, resources, processing, etc. I know I know I know

Thanks for giving me something new to research for collaborative technologies!!

Oh, and since we're on the subject of chat...

I primarily use Googletalk at home, because after working on corporate IM systems at work all day, nothing compares and my technogeek side cries.... so I just use it through my email account (google... almost three gigs people :)

But was wondering if anyone out there is using Pidgin... yes, I spelt that right (I hope)... its the next version of GAIM so to say, they had to distance themselves with AIM... and I like how they implemented the aggregated chat client.  I think I may start using it again, so i can open up my aim, yahoo, and msn to chat with people here.
Title: oh, googletalk... hmm..
Post by: PastMember on December 19, 2007, 03:24:38 AM
Well, i dropped in and saw that at least one person - Vanessa - had recently checked out the chat room!  i hope she - and/or anyone else - comes back sometime soon!  I'm patient...  :coffee2:  sometimes...

Cool, googletalk, so that's what that 'chat's about in my gmail!  I also yahoo chat whenever i'm checking my yahoo account... which is often.

but i'm going to have to try out Adium - thx for the tip on that, Avril!  I'm so so grateful for my MacBookPro... i had the best of both worlds until i got that nasty virus (because the dept's admins have to update my virus software, why i can't just do it is beyond me...) and my PC-alterego came crashing down!  Bless the Mac-side - i could even still access all my data!

see you all in the chatroom?
ambrosia.  :flower:

When you said the site was down, Bree, did you mean the chat room?  I just get a page of error messages when I click on the link.
Title:
Post by: Bree on December 20, 2007, 04:41:04 PM
No, the site itself was down...our entire public_html folder got deleted.  The restoration must have messed up the chat settings.

I'm actually about to start a massive form upgrade process but let me see if I can jump on in there and fix that quick.  :)

I guess it's kind of pointless when you already have a chat program like AIM or something.  Although, some people have one kind of chat program and others don't have that but something else.

I use Trillian so I can pick up AIM and MSN.  Also the ads on AIM-proper were getting me down.  Bloody Polar Express trains all over my screen!
Title:

I used to use Trillian back when I used Windows.  Now I use Pidgin which, like Trillian, allows me access to multiple chats.  I generally just use google and AIM though.  I get overwhelmed with too much.

alot of groups are using the blast channels on AIM now. I personally like the chatrooms you can just create yourself on most clients and just invite your buddies to. Ah well. most of the phpbb forums I'm on have chatrooms as well...we could maybe do it that way if suzee wanted. :)
