Title: persona creation question
Post by: Beth K on December 29, 2003, 09:04:26 PM
I've been working on creating a persona (two actually), but i have a question regarding the forn specifically. I read that girls in holds generally get married around 16 (eek!), but what do they do until then? Would these girls have jobs? What about girls in crafthalls? I guess I was kind of assuming that a crafter with a family would have his family with him.  Okay, that's all the questions I have this moment. Thanks!! :tumble:

Welcome, Beth!  It's good to have you join us!  In answer to your question, check out our child-rearing page here:

Now, that being said.   Our basic canon states that a child is in harper classes till they are twelve.  At that point in time they either apprentice (if they can) or the begin work of some kind.  Or, at a Weyr, they can become candidates, which entails another set of classes and work.

Between the ages of 12-16, a girl would learn things like sewing or cooking or whatever she would need to be the wife of whoever she married.  The different levels of society would depend on what exactly she learned.  (i.e. a Lord Holder's daughter wouldn't necessarily learn laundry or cooking as she won't need those skills when married to another of the Blood.  However, a cotholder's wife would need those skills as she's the only performing those duties in life.)

Anyway, I hope this helps!
